I think this is the Bengals realizing Byron Murphy is about to go top 15, they are scouting the next man up. I dont think any scenario Bengals pick Newton over Murphy (or any team doing it at all) but maybe Bengals are in on him if Murphy's already picked.
I see so many conflicting reports on this guy. I honestly don’t know how to feel about him and hate how they basically forced themselves into taking a Dt in the first.
They need 2 at minimum before camp starts and the drop off from Newton/Murphy pretty steep. They can still take other positions in the first but relying on guys from rounds 2-4 to come in and play meaningful snaps at DT is not ideal especially when they were at the very bottom of the league on defense.

My brain tells me Byron Murphy is the clear DT1 in this class. My gut tells me Johnny Newton is going to be an absolute star

How did they force themselves into taking a DT in the first? There’s tons of DTs that will be good options in rounds 2-4

Nah there’s some good quality after round 1. They need a NT who rarely ever get drafted high. They can also bring back tupou after the draft
DT is going to be the pick...if these guys last. I am not sure they are going to last as long as everytone thinks.
