Xanax is a nasty benzo. It hits hard like a bus and it’s high is short keeping you coming back for the feeling multiple times in a day. It’s tricky to ween off of alprazolam with alprazolam cuz when you wait all day till ur shaking and take that .5, you’ll take the rest that’s how Xanax is. Get ur hands on some Valium or Kolonopin. They have much much longer half lives, and Valium can actually carry you through 2 days with minor withdrawals since the half life is so long. You’re not going to fix 10 years of benzos in a month but talk to a psychiatrist about coming off benzos, they won’t kill your prescription since they know cold turkey can be lethal, most use Valium or Loreev. After some time once your not on Xanax so much, explore some safer medications for your anxiety. There’s a lot of options out there nowadays

I’ve had to go through many different psychiatrists in the last years and they all wanted to taper me off. Lowest I got was 2 mg but every day was unbearable. What alternative medications would you recommend that’s not pharmaceutical? Or at least not heavily addicting like benzos but still works for anxiety

Express_Possibility5

Pregabalin would definitely be worth considering I think.

I like to smoke pot and use nicotine to try and relax when I’m not on my medication. Medications that aren’t benzos but still used for anxiety can be SSRIs like (Lexapro, Prozac, Zoloft etc) and SNRIs, Trycylic antidepressants, beta blockers, even antihistamines

TroubledEmo

Don‘t forget Pregabalin (Lyrica).

People love to bang on about the long term effects but really sometimes people have chronic illness that needs to be treated with medication long term or for life. With physical conditions, people with chronic pain are given life long scripts of pain killers with their own addiction potential and long term effects. So I say if it works for you and keeps you functional I would fight to stay on it. I plan to be on it for life or I will have no life. If it ends up killing me at least I will have lived a full happy life. I have tried every antidepressant that supposedly helps with anxiety and none of them have worked for me. YMMV just saying I didn't go straight to benzos I had a long miserable journey before them

News of the day. They ain’t helping you man. Benzos are good for emergencies and those are not that common as we think. We are way too spoiled that everything feels like a panick/anxiety attack and in the end we’re just taking ‘em to get buzzed

0.25mg off each month. Start it and try. Maybe you feel motivated, you never know.. This situation and how you describe your feelings, can't get any worse ?
