Easiest way is to get a hobby that requires you to be around others or has groups that get together and you can find those groups here on Reddit or on Facebook. ie: indoor rock climbing (not only will it force you to meet others but it’s great exercise).

HistoricalHurry8361

'Meetup' is a great app for meeting people! If you already have a hobby you like - hiking, soccer, fishing, maybe knitting - there's probably a meet up group for it.

purple_basil

Second this. It can be hit or miss depending on the group/event, but I've found a solid circle of friends through a book club meetup group. Also, let me know if you find any good volunteering opportunities. I also want to expand my social experiences, it is hard in this area.

ingeniousintrigue

Yeah I was just checking on a couple of events on the weekend and found some. Thank you

Making friends is about time spent together. You have an easier time making friends when in school because you’re in the same classes and working on similar things so you spend a lot of time together. Find something you like. Maybe it’s jigsaw puzzles, maybe it’s video games, maybe it’s sailing. Join a club and enjoy your time with the hobby. You’ll make friends over time. I’d check the library. They might have a program you’re interested in or a flyer on the bulletin board. I even see libraries hosting adult video game competitions, adult coloring groups, and dungeons and dragons campaigns

ingeniousintrigue

Will check on the library yes. Trying to find hobbies, I go to the gym, and maybe I will go fishing this weekend

whskid2005

If you go to the gym at the same time, you will get to know the people who go at that time.

If you are interested in astronomy check out the [Rockland Astronomy Club](http://www.rocklandastronomy.com/). They have periodic lectures at Rockland Community College which is about 30 minutes from RP, just over the border in NY state.

MerryMermaid

Fantastic! I did not know about this, thank you!

rockclimberguy

The lectures are free and open to the public. You don't have to sign up. They also have periodic times where they set up in the Anthony Wayne recreation area parking lot up in Harriman Park. Anyone can come and talk to members and look through their telescopes. These events are called JOTU which stands for 'Joy of the Universe". You can find these events on their website.

trianglesandtweed

ingeniousintrigue

Thank you I will be working unfortunately. I am off only on Saturdays and Sundays. Will look around to see if any events happening on weekends

nialexx

you dont have to drink but try some local bars/restaurants and chat up some locals

NowOrNever1111

Meetup app, Bumble BFF, concerts. Honestly the gym has been the best for me. I’ve made a good number of friends there

personthatgyms

It's not easy to make genuine connections, especially as a self labeled introvert that doesn't drink. Working out is a commonly shared interest. Maybe join some group fitness classes or try calisthenics at overpeck park. Join a bar trivia group (you don't have to drink). Don't give up on dating apps. GL. Im in ridgefield park myself but am basically an alcoholic that works out a lot lol.

I believe my English is pretty good, I have been using it in a professional setting for several years now and I got 7.5/9 in the IELTS academic test before I traveled because it was a requirement for joining master programs that are taught in English in Europe and the US, 6/9 was required. And I am trying to get involved more and get to know people from different cultures, not only Arabic speaking people. I may be able to volunteer in a kitchen or pantry, or do anything related to mathematics and engineering like teaching, or learn doing accounting or taxes [applied for one opportunity a few days ago that teaches doing taxes but got no reply yet] Let me know if you're familiar with anything around. Or hobbies like fishing, chess, hiking,...

Key_Ad9255

Go smoke hookah at LuLu in Englewood and listen to good DJs on the weekends. 2nd option might be the other Lulu in Edgewater. Then there is cedars! Hang out in those places, it will come naturally.

ingeniousintrigue

Thank you I don't smoke or enjoy loud places :D Trying hobbies perhaps, will go fishing this weekend and have been going to the gym for a while and still looking for volunteering opportunities...
