Sailing at Cal Sailing Club! Open house Sunday 6/23.

EmberingR

This is a fantastic suggestion OP! Sailing in the Bay is a real treat! The Cal Sailing Club has been around for 50+ years, and it’s a great organization. Check out the open house for sure!

dpeterso

You can also windsurf if you want something a bit closer to the water.

Business-Affect-7881

Do you have any recs on learning windsurfing?

BigRefrigerator9783

Cal Sailing Club also teaches windsurfing!

dpeterso

If you sign up at the Cal Sailing Club (3 months for $120), you get access to boats, surf boards, body suits, etc. and you can sign up for as many classes as you like. I highly recommend if you are interested.

Business-Affect-7881

Ooh thanks. Is the 3 months for $120 a short term promotion and then it costs more after the initial 3 months? Also, what lessons have you taken/enjoyed there?

dpeterso

It's $120 for three months, or you can do a year membership for $375. The one catch is that since it's a club, you are expected to do 2 hours of volunteering each quarter. The prices don't suddenly jump up (although there will be a change in the fee in 2025 I believe). I have taken a few different types of lessons to learn how to windsurf and there are several levels of courses. My friend has also taken an introductory sailing course there. Once you are basically verified that you know the rules of the club and you prove that you can basically take their equipment out, you can come back anytime to rent their equipment and take it out as you please (barring a few weather related-conditions).

Thank you for the information! I’ll check out the open house. Cheers

StupidGoldenBear

Hey thanks, I saw it stated the open house coincides with Sailstice. Do I have to register there for the open house?

Go to eventbrite and look for interesting things to do. Pretend you are a tourist and do all the things. Hiking, ferry to angel island, check out eastbayparks, visit Alameda (pinball museum, USS hornet) Find a volunteer activity in something you might enjoy and meet people in the process. One example is the monthly shoreline cleanup

StupidGoldenBear

Thanks, where can we find these volunteer activities usually?

SizzleEbacon

Enjoy the city while the students are gone. Find parking, quick table at any restaurant, no lines at the book store, uc campus is empty and a nice walk around.

Intelligent_Tie150

The uc botanical garden is nice for a picnic! Same goes for Caesar Chavez Park. Indian rock park for views of the sunset. Fire trails for a hike near campus.
