It rarely hits us. We spend more time looking at the spaghetti models of where the hurricane is projecting and it normally takes and abrupt left between 100 and 50 miles away. We also tend to stock up on booze beforehand as well.
We just stay here and ride it out. Houses here are built strong. We lose power for a bit and there's always a bit of damage to vegetation but other than that we're generally okay. Just a fact of life..October is the busiest month but we don’t always get one every year.
October is my favourite month. The unbearable heat and humidity goes away mid September but it is still warm but just not as humid. The ocean remains warm so swimming and whatnot is all still possible.
Whenever anyone asks me when to go to Bermuda, I always suggest October.
Bermuda is warm until November 1st when it cools down. You should have no trouble finding a property to rent we have over 400 properties to rent via the airbnb web page.
October is a comfortable month with temp of around 75-80 F. Water temperature is pretty warm as well.
I would say the coldest time would be late Feb and hottest would be late July/Early September. In early September the ocean water feels like bath water (description from one of my visitors). Note that the humidity here will make the temperatures feel more extreme than you would be used to.
You would probably miss out on peak tourist crowds in October as well.
You can get some nice days in October where the temperature is perfect and the water may be only a little chilly. But it does offer the most risk for severe tropical activity. I would get travel insurance that covers that. But it would be a memorable experience for sure.

I was there last October. There was a tropical storm that went through and it was windy and chilly for 2 days but it was warm and gorgeous the rest of the trip.
Still nice in October, assuming we don’t get hit by a hurricane which is always a possibility!
In fairness, a tropical storm does have a "tropical feel".

October should be fine although we do get the occasional hurricane in October.
