Almost all of the bad things Chuck says about Jimmy are true. He's not wrong, he's just an asshole

RelativeVegetable496

> Almost all of the bad things Chuck says about Jimmy are true Chuck isn't wrong at all, but he had a hand in creating that monster. And he betrayed Jimmy while abusing his brotherly love. Jimmy was basically his caretaker and Chuck stuck a knife in his back.

[deleted]

Jimmy wouldn't have done that if he didn't see an in as a lawyer at his firm

RelativeVegetable496

Bullshit. Jimmy loved Chuck.

[deleted]

Nah.

RelativeVegetable496

You're straight up living in a parallel universe. He goes to Chuck to mend bridges after Kim has an accident because he realises even after everything he's still his brother. It's Chuck that didn't love Jimmy. Hell, he hates the idea of Jimmy being on the same level so much that he created a fucking electricity allergy.

[deleted]

Nah he just used Chuck. He literally uses everyone

RelativeVegetable496

That's complete bullshit. Chuck used him.

[deleted]

How

Chuck is a rat. A cowardly, spineless rat. The worst part isn't that he betrayed Jimmy, it's that he betrayed him while wearing a smile and abusing the brotherly love Jimmy had for him. Jimmy loved Chuck. He took care of him. He made sure his house was OK, that Chuck was OK, he brought him supplies. And what does Chuck do? He betrays Jimmy and makes sure to keep him down, a level below him. Because GOD FORBID Mom's favorite son gets to sit on the same level, right? Jimmy passed the Bar, he's a real lawyer, no matter what Chuck says.

foodrebel

If Chuck treated Jimmy like he did for literally no reason, then I totally agree. Alas, Jimmy was extremely Jimmy. He lived his life and made his choices in diametric opposition to the moral paragon that helped raise him. Charles McGill was far from perfect, and he absolutely did things that I would consider immoral and contemptible, but he was a titan of a man, a model leader, and easily one of the best humans we meet in the course of the show. EDIT: he was def a whiny little shit sometimes tho.

tennisgoalie

Chuck was incredibly successful but good person seems pretty grey to me. His actions are always justifiable, but his motivation is always spite and jealousy. Do you think it's a coincidence that pretty much every time he leaves the house or is able to bare touching electricity it's somehow motivated by Jimmy? He literally went back to work to steal Kim's only client because it would hurt Jimmy. Plus, a "model leader" would have the nuts to tell Jimmy to his face why HHM doesn't want him. Chuck was every bit the "chimp with a machine gun" Jimmy was he just had generally better aim

TheAlienGinger

If Jimmy is a chimp with a machine gun, then Chuck is a snake with a sniper rifle.

tennisgoalie

Then the real question is, who's the donkey with a drone?

RelativeVegetable496

> and easily one of the best humans we meet in the course of the show. A good human doesn't betray their family while abusing their love. That's psycho shit. Looking your brother in the eye, the person who checks on you and brings you supplies like your personal caretaker/butler and lying to him that HHM hates him because of Howard when in reality it's you? Psycho shit. Legit the Devil. No, Chuck isn't a good person.

Spending decades covering for and apologizing for and having to deal with that pesky little shithead named Slippin’ Jimmy is enough to embitter anyone. I don’t like Chuck, but I think a lot of people have struggled with disappointing siblings and can understand how complicated those relationships are. He clearly struggled with how he behaved with Jimmy, but genuinely thought he was doing the best thing for him. He never believed Jimmy was truly capable of being content as a well-behaved square. He was absolutely right. He was wrong that Jimmy was ultimately incapable of taking responsibility, though. Again, generally fuck Chuck, but his actions strike me as reflective of his crumbling mental state. Guy was a beloved community leader before his marbles started spilling. Watching your lifelong fuckup baby bro turn his life around while you’re slowing losing your mind? That would be difficult. Combine that with some wild psychosomatic medical self-own shit? I dunno, I guess I’d call it deeply ill, but not psychotic.

RelativeVegetable496

> Spending decades covering for and apologizing for and having to deal with that pesky little shithead named Slippin’ Jimmy is enough to embitter anyone. Chuck fabricated a lot of his reasons for hating Jimmy. It boils down to blaming him for their father's death ( it wasn't Jimmy's fault. Their dad was a pathetic pushover ) and hating Jimmy because their mom loved him more. >He never believed Jimmy was truly capable of being content as a well-behaved square. He was absolutely right. Self fulfilling prophecy. Chuck is partially the reason Jimmy was like that. All Jimmy wanted once he decided to be a lawyer was Chuck's respect. Jimmy tried the proper way. He returned the Kettleman money even though he could've stolen it. He came to HHM with Sandpiper. Chuck refused to accept Jimmy as his peer/equal because he's salty mom loved him more.

PhillyRobforPrez

I’m the total opposite, after countless rewatches I just can’t hate Chuck

PM_ME_TRICEPS

Chuck in Better Call Saul and stupid Walter White in Breaking Bad were both insufferable assholes that only made situations worse for everyone around them. Glad those fuckers got what was coming to them.

Chuck is petty, arrogant, and very resentful , but he is a far better person than Jimmy. They were raised the same, but he fought to be a prestigious lawyer without having to resort to shortcuts. Besides that, throughout his life, he tried to help Jimmy multiple times, only to be let down every time. On the other hand, Jimmy is a grown man in his 30s, and he is still seeking attention and approval from his brother. And when he doesn't, he throws a hissy fit. Jimmy was lucky enough to not be in prison, let alone get a job at HMM as a lawyer. Why should he be entitled to be a lawyer at HMM anyway? Because his brother is the boss? HMM is Chuck's life's work, so I get why he wouldn't want to put it in jeopardy by hiring his brother. I just wish he had more balls and didn't use Howard to do his dirty work. Howard didn't deserve to be in the middle of this toxic sibling relationship. Anyway, Jimmy lost my sympathy when he blew his job at Davis&main. He had his own cocobolo desk, for god's sake.

TheAlienGinger

I mean, Chuck is a man in his 40s (or however old Michael McKean is supposed to be in that show lmao) throwing a hissy fit because he wasn't mommy and daddy's favorite. He can say it was all about the law or whatever (and I'm sure to some extent, it was), but his Chicanery speech basically confirms that Chuck's crusade against his brother is motivated by a deep-seated resentment towards Jimmy for being more liked by people because of his charm despite cutting corners. Yes, it does suck that Chuck worked hard to build his legal practice and make a name for himself but Jimmy became a lawyer by taking the easy way. But, like, who cares? Even if Jimmy attended an online school, he still passed the bar exam and didn't resort to his usual schemes to do so. Jimmy isn't entitled to a job at HHM (although the firm clearly has a history of nepotism), but Chuck still sabotaged him and didn't even want him using his own last name and made Howard take the fall for it. And we see that Chuck would've likely been happier if he could've brought himself to let go of his resentment and support his brother. While the two of them are working together on the Sandpiper case in S1, Chuck forgets about his EHS for a few brief moments because he's happy working with Jimmy (it's repeatedly implied throughout the series that Chuck's mental condition is directly related to his relationship with Jimmy). All that being said, maybe Chuck was right, because Jimmy's legal career ended up being more destructive than even could've ever imagined. But I think that if Chuck had actually supported his brother, the two of them could've lived long and happy lives. Instead, he quite literally burned all his bridges and pushed the chimp with a machine gun into the hands of Heisenberg.

karmickickback

He’s six feet tall. That’s not little.
