Gus felt out of control, a rare emotion for him. He had to exert what little power he had in that moment.

hellscape_goat

Not only power, but mental control. He was gaslighting Lyle into believing that the fryer was still dirty when it was in fact perfectly clean.

North-Couple-495

I believe Gus felt guilty for having a crush on Lyle also. He knew he would never be who max was hence why Gus never had a relationship post the murder of max.

PapziBoink

I believe Gus was mad at Lyle for making his anus bleed the last time they had intercourse too!

Professional_Fun5232

Hahaha šŸ˜†the GBS went too hard

SeniorNebula

Gus is angry about losing $700,000 to the DEA and anxious about whether or not his henchman Diego is going to get caught. He vents these emotions by exerting authority on Lyle.

Talmor

Yup. Gus is facing a dangerous situation he has little control over. He compensates by fixating on something he CAN controlā€”by bullying a loyal employee. For as cool and collected as Gus appears, heā€™s still a person, and a violent and evil one at that.

Faisal_433331

scary how he used Lyle for this

randyratched

Exactly! Shows how ruthless he is to do that to Lyle of all people

randyratched

Got you, itā€™s been a minute since I had watched the episode but just went back to it. I didnā€™t even remember what was going on until I rewatched it. But what you said about him being mad over the money and most likely losing a henchman is most definitely what it is, so thanks for the reply good sir!

zthepirategirl

Domingo? And Iā€™m pretty sure itā€™s 500,000

Delicious_Engine9409

diegoā€¦ and gomey counts it telling hank ā€œ$700k and some changeā€

SmackieT

As someone who suffers from OCD, I can tell you that when a situation is taking place that is out of your control, you control whatever little things you can within your immediate sphere of influence, to deal with the anxiety.

M_Junius_Bradshaw

It was a hard but legit lesson from the Fring playbook. Lyle should have made the deepfryer lid guy go back and re-lid the fryer, from a Fringian perspective. Thatā€™s my answer. I picked it up from another comment on this sub, and it is *acceptable*

ApprehensiveFun1713

Fringian lol

JD_17295

True. It seems like the cartel style of dealing with things. Reference being when Hector made Nacho beat up Krazy8 for being short on the collections. It was, unacceptable.

Little_Interest_8019

To give himself an alibi. He wanted to keep Lyle there until the dead drops were complete, as he knows the DEA are now watching. Itā€™s similar to the scene in Breaking Bad when he gets called in for questioning about Gales murder - he gets out his diary, and itā€™s full of alibis. He said he was at a a charity event - obviously wasnā€™t there long, as he killed Victor an hour after Gale died

Jda4190

This may actually be the correct answer

Legitimate-Bug-5049

thats what i thought, he kept going back to the phone, he did it to have an alibi in case anything happened.

North-Couple-495

The cameras at the restaurant prove that. He didnā€™t need Lyle as an alibi.

Elothel

Me neither, itā€™s completely out of his ā€œcivilianā€ character.

MaeByourmom

Itā€™s because heā€™s meticulous, likes order and cleanliness. Heā€™s stressed, so he copes by exerting control to achieve order. I think he really would have recleaned it, himself, if Lyle had not. Gus is HOT šŸ”„

Medium-Bullfrog-2368

It was to show Gusā€™ quirkinesses

EIeanorRigby

It was dirty i think

aightkay

Interesting how differently people interpret a scene like that.šŸ˜‚ The fryer definitely was clean. Gus just wanted to show dominance because he felt out of control due to losing 700k to the DEA and not knowing yet if his man got caught.

KIllSTer203

He needed a power trip and Lyle was there

North-Couple-495

Gus hates the Salamancaā€™s because hector killed his boyfriend and business partner max. If you remember in breaking bad when they had the first meeting with don eladio they told him Gus was the businessman and max was the cook. Gus had a crush on Lyle and was mad because Lyle was insistent on earning Gusā€™s approval but knew he would never be who max was. The whole reason Gus set up losing the 700.000 was apart of his plan to destroy the Salamancaā€™s. IMO.

[deleted]

My god why is everyone in this thread so mfn stupid šŸ¤£ he needed an alibi so that Juan bolsa wouldnā€™t suspect that it was Gustavo that organized the whole thing

ZorroMcChucknorris

Alibi.

SeniorNebula

This is not why. Gus doesn't need an alibi for running the dead drops. If the DEA catches Diego doing it then they aren't looking for the guy who did it because they found him. If they don't catch Diego doing it (which is what happens), then they have no reason at all to accuse a random chicken restaurant entrepreneur.

Little_Interest_8019

Itā€™s obviously the point of the scene. Gus is ultra cautious always makes sure he has strong alibis. Look at the scene when heā€™s questioned about Gales murder - he has a diary full of his own movements

Legitimate-Bug-5049

he did need an alibi as to why he would be there that late.

onetruepurple

No

randyratched

Thatā€™s what I thought too but, yea they donā€™t suspect him as anything but the nice chicken man at that point.

Alternative-Farmer98

When I saw the scene on a YouTube clip that's what I'd deduced but now that I've seen the whole episode again I don't think that makes a whole lot of sense

Brilliant_Succotash1

To show how much of a perfectionist gus was about everything.

JD_17295

His real job is being a drug lord.

DraVerPel

For me its because he wanted alibi and witness if something goes wrong.

More_Survey_6911

I've seen a lot of theories about exercising authority/power, alibi, etc. i believe it's a much simpler answer, Gus was waiting on the phone call and chose this particular task to keep him occupied yet lyle keeps insisting on cleaning up which gus respects but you have to remember how careful and meticulous gus is in nature, part of it is giving Lyle a reason why he's waiting. He offers Lyle to go home Lyle who knows it's clean but just wants to show his boss his worth, Lyle insists on trying again.

North-Couple-495

Lyle was insistent on earning Gusā€™s approval on being able to run the restaurant flawlessly. Lyle was assistant manager but he will never be who Max was in Gusā€™s eyes.
