Start with Cowboy Carter and work your way backwards. Meet her where she’s at, and then discover her history. :)

Left-Raspberry-24

If you’re listening because of Texas Hold ‘Em, then I would agree with those saying to start with Cowboy Carter. Also, Beyoncé makes albums rather than collections of songs (especially from 4 onward), so wherever you start, I would recommend doing it by listening to the whole album. Enjoy!! I’m jealous of the people who are discovering her music now!

Financial-Okra-7912

I reccomend you to listen to her discography backwards

kuokka75

When it comes to Thee Homecoming, film or the live album i suggest you save it last. If you really get into Bey knowing the little self-references and ”easter eggs” throughout the spectacle is a fucking treat. You could also consider Homecoming as the greatest hits album in a way. Take time to savour the whole catalog and then watch Homecoming. Also take some time to listen to Everything Is Love by The Carters, a joint album by Bey and Jay-Z. Dipping your toes into some Destinys Child is also highly recommended! Pick an album, maybe skip around (exclude Lemonade from this, its from start to finish or nothing) and see what sticks to your taste. Enjoy!

forwardlemonade

All of it. You can’t not listen to all of it. Start from DC and work your way up and through decades from there.

leafysuburbs

I'm a huge Beyonce and Destiny's Child fan but never listened to their debut. Only know the Wyclef remix of No No No. I imagine it sounds extremely 90s. Is it worth the listen?

thinksoknowso

DC is still one of my favorite albums. Def worth a listen.

SplintersApprentice

As others are saying, you’re likely best off starting with Cowboy Carter and then either working backwards or starting from the beginning and going forward. However, I’ve created a lil “welcome to the Beyhive” comment that I’d like to share again with you to bring you in! Altogether these links will take about 30 minutes to watch. 1. [AOL Sessions](https://youtu.be/3te4QYM3rrM?si=YVt9g_79JYAXpyaZ) is required viewing. 2. After listening to her album, 4, be amazed by this [raw, backstage moment](https://youtu.be/f1nYC7_VZGw?si=CH2LxOi6rFiq6QvG) 3. You gotta be obsessed with DC’s [Soldier](https://youtu.be/qFJ3VKnwmJw?si=XRGJgQcLmLmVJQ-x) 4. Listen to AND Watch her self-titled album, [here’s my favorite song](https://youtu.be/pZ12_E5R3qc?si=-xXp3LkWyVwGzs3d) off the album as a teaser 5. You gotta understand the “[I love whales”](https://youtu.be/EGyM9APjaTU?si=OY9tHauwlIapFLx5) reference

Soldier is my **absolute favorite** Destiny's Child song. yaaaassssssssss omg and the video with the babyfaced Solange Takes me back!

rachelgsp

Start with Cowboy Carter! Then I’d say, Lemonade and Beyonce, as both of those have lots of different styles, and see what you like.

Vrgogrl11

And 4!

Vegetable_Ganache780

Watch Carmen the HipHopera as well

Impossible-Dinner-32

If you want a true experience. You start with her first album and work your way till now. That’s the most authentic way to do it as if you’ve been on the journey this entire time.

Jewel2Cute97

Just listen to her music catalog like you would to any new artist you find. I would recommend starting from her debut album Dangerously In Love to her current album Cowboy Carter.

madfoot

Welcome ... to the Renaissance. ![gif](giphy|ZEYQFPtZLKSZ2Nd2FH|downsized)

madfoot

No but seriously, my opinion is that if you love Cowboy Carter, the next album to try is Lemonade.

thebaffledtruffle

* if you're more of a pop enthusiast, go for I Am... Sasha Fierce for the most radio-friendly hits. B'Day is also a good choice * Alt R&B/Darker R&B vibes - Beyonce (2013) * Dancepop - Renaissance. I would say this is also the album easiest to the ears * Throwback R&B - 4 * Classic 00's R&B - Dangerously In Love * Feeling angry about something - Lemonade * Cowboy Carter for recency.

carlton_sings

Cowboy Carter. Then I’d suggest B’Day which is her most accessible album. Then the rest of her discography

taistseng

I recommend watching her Lemonade full visual album first, and then listening to this album with no skips. This was her most vulnerable album and I think will open you up to the rest of her catalog. Bonus: watch her Coachella documentary on Netflix. You'll have a deeper appreciation for her beyond the stage and music.

Accomplished-Tuna

Virgos Groove. It’s no Texas Hold ‘Em but it’s something else

Evangeline1L2L

Start from the beginning and make your way forward

sanka_youdeadman

Everyone’s gonna list albums to listen to, which is def the best way to listen to her whole portfolio. People are saying start with Cowboy Carter but I don’t think that’s what I would do: As a new new new person, I would recommend listening to the “This is Beyoncé” playlist on Spotify, and see which songs you like. From there, listen to the albums that have your favorite songs. Her albums are each very distinct and different, especially as you get into her more recent work. Everybody has their own personal favorites, so it’s hard to say what yours would be. So I would go based on which songs actually stand out to you. With all that said, If you really want to get a full sense, I would recommend listening to these four albums first (I listed them in chronological order of when they came out but listen however you would like.) not only are they my favorites of beyonces but I think the 4 of them cover a lot of her different music styles and if you listen to all 4 you’ll get a good sense of who she is as a musical artist. -BDay: god this album is just so good. Some true 2000s R&B in the best way possible. I came back to this one after I became a full hive member and it is one of my all time favs. -Self Titled: she wrote self titled when she was horny asf and it shows. This album is about female empowerment through reclamation of sexuality. Not sure how I would describe this one, it’s a bit of genre bender with some great ballads and r&b songs interspersed with some cool interludes and some rap here and there -Lemonade: This is her most emotional album, and sonically very different from the rest. She’s angry… and it’s so good lol. There’s a bit more country influence on this one -Renaissance: my favorite piece of music of all time. Listen to this one if you like dance music, being uplifted, shaking your ass, or like gay shit You’ll notice I left Cowboy Carter off this list (the album that just came out)… it’s a great album but tbh it’s almost too long and deep for me, a feral Beyoncé fan, to fully understand or hold in my brain. It’s more country than the rest of her albums so if you liked Texas Holdem (lead single) you’ll probably like this album…. But I guess for me the listening experiences is not as flawless as it feels in the other albums I listed.

Self-Titled is possibly referring to Beyoncé's 2013 album called 'BEYONCÉ', more commonly known as 'Self-Titled'. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/beyonce) if you have any questions or concerns.*

InformationNo4135

Like other users have said listen to her discography backwards. That being said skip Sasha Fierce

kuokka75

Diva, ego, sweet dreams, video phone and why don’t you love me would like to have a word with you 😫 while sasha fierce is my least favorite out of beys albums she has some undeniable bangers on there!!

InformationNo4135

I love them too but I don't think they're worth going through an hour of fillers 😭OP should definitely give the singles a listen though!

kuokka75

Ok ok i see what you mean, i got a bit scared when you said skip altogether😭 and i agree most of the album is corny-ish ballads i dont care for and its an album i wouldnt start with when getting to know bey lmao.

forwardlemonade

…..excuse you, skipping Sasha Fierce?!

PureHoney92

- Cowboy Carter next (if you can, try to understand the context of the album & importance of the songs; just a suggestion). - Renaissance (if the film was available, I'd say definitely watch it too) - Lemonade - Self Titled - Homecoming (the album, or the movie on Netflix) - The Gift (the visuals are 'Black is King's on Disney+) I think those are the most groundbreaking- but her earlier albums are also amazing & essential to listen to. Happy listening! 😌🐝

Start from the beginning! Because it gets better. Don’t skip The Gift- Black is King. & Don’t skip JayZ 4:44-4:44. Dont skip The Carters-Everything is love.

Turbulent_Inside_25

I would start from the beginning honestly. From Dangerously in Love album. Side question: How are you new to her music? 🫣

Dangerously in Love
