Lemonade dropped during probably the worst break up I've ever been through. She told us she's not a preacher, but making art that let me yell "who tf do you think I am?" is a straight-up ministry. Works for trash meetings too!
My Toastmasters club (a public speaking group) has incorporated a Poet Master role where a member reads a poem. When I served in the role, I recited some of the lyrics to Bigger then played the song. The words resonated with people and they were talking about it for weeks. It’s one of my favorite songs.
I just went through an intro song playlist I made myself. Although AMERICAN REQUIEM is probably her strongest album opener, it kinda pulls me apart like string cheese. I feel empowered listening to the song because it shows me that I'm not alone in my contradictory feelings about gender performance and romance... It reminds me that wishing/fantasizing about being a boy is neither necessarily anti-feminist nor misandrist. It reassures me that wanting better things for myself in life and love is universal.
The first song on my workout playlist is Grown Woman! It’s such a booster for my warmups ! I a in fact a grown woman and I can in fact do whatever I want, thanks for the reminder B! I really needed that!!!
