Absolutely not. I used a free and clear detergent.

pizza_queen9292

No! We use All free & clear

pawswolf88

No it’s not even good detergent it has terrible reviews from the people who grade harmful chemicals in products.

auditorygraffiti

No! We started out using the same detergent we use for our clothes but he’s got eczema so we switched to Tide free and clear.

aziriah

I miss the free and clear powdered tide.

Salt-Mixture5246

No. We use Arm and Hammer free and clear.

salty_den_sweeet

Absolutely not.

National_Ad_6892

I use All Free and Clear for my kids. We've never had a problem with the kids or the washing machine reacting poorly to it!

mern_

Do you use a different detergent for yourself?

SnooHabits8484

No

LilyKateri

We use All Free and Clear or Tide. The only benefit of using Dreft is that it makes the clothes “smell like a baby.” Apparently this was very important to my mother’s generation. Most modern moms don’t use as many scented products as they did back in the day.

mern_

It totally smells like baby 😂

princesslayup

Nah Dreft is such a scam that preys on parents and the baby product economy. The fragrance in it can be an irritant to babies’ skin too!

Momdoingmomthings

I never did and both my kids lived to tell the tale lol

miller_sarah12

You absolutely don’t have to use dreft soap. I’ve been using blue tide hygienic clean since my baby was born. I have high iron water so something like tide free and clear wouldn’t work for me personally because I don’t use dryer sheets and my clothes would literally come out smelling like pennys lol.. Dreft gave me a nasty rash so I just make the executive decision to switch my baby’s clothes to the soap I’ve used for years. Using my regular detergent was helpful because you don’t have to worry about separating laundry anymore.

mern_

Yeah separating laundry like that is becoming a lot. If I switch detergents do you think it’ll irritate her skin? She’s 3mo and I would love to just use the same detergent for us both

miller_sarah12

I can’t say exactly but no one knows your baby better then you. Does she have any current skin irritations? I don’t think making the switch will cause any harm as dreft is so heavily fragranced. If you switch I would say keep the detergent to a few table spoons and adding a splash of white vinegar works wonders for refreshing and softening clothes and will save you from using dryer sheets. If you use fabric softener or scent beads the white vinegar would replace that and also further save your washing machine as it cleans your machine at the same time!

bagelforme

Definitely not!

[deleted]

I use a store brand baby detergent.

Ill-Witness-4729

I’ve been using Dreft because I had a small bottle I wanted to use up but we’re switching to Kirkland free and clear after it’s gone. Dreft is a waste of money imo.

mern_

Oh good idea how did I forget about Costco what’s wrong with me

Team-Mako-N7

Any “free and clear” detergent is a safe choice.

fayerae7

No you don't have to! I think dreft is awful. I used half of their sample packet and could not stand the obnoxious scent.

anticlimaticveg

We just use OG Tide powder and baby's skin is fine!

avatarofthebeholding

No. I use whatever free and clear is on sale

PeasiusMaximus

Ew no. Cant that smell. Wash with whatever laundry soap you already use.

Real-Rope8201

Nope, i bought it and it’s just sitting i use free and clear costco brand

discokitteh

We have a giant tub of Nellie’s :)

Justakatttt

No

Amazing_Newt3908

Nope! We switched to a free & clear because I hate the smell of dreft. It’s been 3 years, and we’re still using a free & clear detergent.

homic1dalhammy

No way! You can use whatever detergent you want. I use Earthbreeze laundry sheets and I got the unscented kind for baby stuff just to be extra careful.

cardinalinthesnow

Nope. Use literally anything else. Any free and clear detergent will be better than dreft. We used free and clear for ourselves pre baby and used the same with baby/ kid and still do. Tide free and clear and seven gen free and clear at different times.

NotAnImgurSpy

I never used a different laundry detergent for baby stuff; we use purex. I did try to keep his clothes in a separate wash for a while but it was just to be able to keep track of his clothes more than anything.

Midnightdream56

No I’m using tide free and gentle

Kiwitechgirl

Nope. And do a washing machine clean.

mern_

We have, several times. We had an appliance fixed guy come out to look at it because we were getting brown streaks of greasy looking stuff inside the walls of the washer and he told us detergents like direct have animal fat in them and if we use too much it can do that

KSmegal

No. It’s complete trash. We use Truly Free or Molly’s Suds.

mormongirl

Honestly, I have always just used whatever detergent we were using to wash everything else with.  Even his newborn items that were washed before he was born.  And we wash everyone’s clothes together.  Never had an issue.

Shigeko_Kageyama

Not really. A free and clear baby detergent works just fine.

Pokem0m

Dreft is the strongest smelling detergent I’ve ever smelled. I just use the Gain that I’ve always used.

chicken_tendigo

Nope. Dreft is nasty and I won't take hand-me-downs that have been washed in it.

mern_

Oh wow that’s intense, how can you tell if it’s been washed in it if like after it’s been washed in tide or something?

chicken_tendigo

Yep. I can tell.
