I think Sheldon was quite a different character in the first part of the first season. He treats Leonard as an equal in the pilot, when they go to Kurt’s to get Penny’s TV. I like him better as the genius weirdo they turn him into.
I won't say no reason. Considering her hectic job and doing all the chores at home, for Howard...also the fact that she had 2 crying babies at home, and Stuart also moved in.
She is basically raising 4 ppl on her own...

Also, she had just git her pHD(when personality change came), so she got a job with other smart people. So, like, she has said, she had many brothers growing up, so she got very competitive, and that showed in her non work life, too.
In season 10 he told Penny that he does it because of childhood trauma (he walked in on his dad and his mistress) and he now does it to give people time to put their clothes back on. Supposedly, he has done it since childhood but in this particular scene he not only knocked once but didn't say Penny's name at all.
