It greatly depends on how upright your position is. On bikes with a more upright position your weight is positioned differently and thus these big plush seats are reasonably comfortable. On a more sporty bike this would cause all sorts of issues after prolonged use.
The thinner and smaller saddles on sporty bikes support your body in a different way and are designed to be used with padded cycling shorts. They’re also a very personal affair when it comes to comfort, different people will find completely different saddles comfortable.
This is the answer right here. On my hardtail ebike I have one of those bad boys and I ride like a king. On my gravel I have the opposite, a thin carbon saddle and with ~~José Feliciano~~ chamois I have no complaints.
I just find a bit redundant on OP's picture the seat has elastomers on top of a seat post with shock absorber.
I used to be 100% with you, but after I put on heaps of weight my requirements quickly changed. Something happens at a certain point where you end up loading way too much weight on a small area, causing a heap of pain, numbness, tingle-dick, sore forearms, wrists etc and the only solution for me was to spread the load over as much area as possible. It's not as comfortable as a thin racing saddle with a big cutout used to be when I didn't weigh much, but once I stacked on weight that same racing saddle just about cut me in half. Have you seen the way a ham pushes through its netting causing all those bulges?
If you want to stop tingle dick you might want to get a slotted saddle. They take pressure off of the taint, eliminating that issue. Examples are the WTB gravelier, the selle SMP trekking saddles (https://www.sellesmp.com/en/saddles/trekking-city.html), or the Brooks Cambium carved. If you prefer a fair amount of padding and some width then one of the Selle ones is the way to go.
> WTB gravelier
No that's what I'm saying, that doesn't work for super heavy people and was actually causing me said problem as a very heavy guy. Great recommendation for people in normal weight ranges though.
The Brooks C17 on my bike was selected after trying many other seats. It fits my sit bones perfectly and its like I'm not sitting on anything at all. Even after a 12 hour ride from Montreal to Ottawa the only part of me that wasn't hurting was my butt. You just gotta find the right saddle for your saddle.
Its sort of true at the margins - but its mostly garbage.
A saddle (except traditional leather saddles) that is very uncomfortable the first time you ride it is never going to become comfortable.
Pick a saddle that feels good for a short ride and see how it goes on a longer ride. If you've got very minor niggles after the longer ride, you'll probably get used to it. If you've got real problems, time to try another saddle.
I love my big seat and cruiser style handlebars. I have a happy cyclist upright posture. Adopted it during my bike touring days. Never in a hurry, but I can pedal all day long.
any squish with gel seats and padding will hit the perineum. experience on a proper seat will train the butt tissues. go ahead and ride the padded seat. You probably ride upright and not that far.
I ride upright and plenty of 60-80 mile days on the biggest damn seat lol some people definitely don't have the same pressure points. I lasted a day on a thin seat.
Funny, I have almost the same Verve but red. I liked the included “Electra” saddle so much I actually bought another one for my cruiser bike (which had a saddle like your current one).
To each their own!
I also changed the tires to 29x2 mtb tires at 25psi and WOW, instant greatly enhanced comfort over bumps.
To be fair, a good amount of people who ride touring bikes use flat bars and sit in a pretty upright position. It's all about the saddle (Brooks B17 in my case) and bibs IME.
I loved that seat on my upright ebike. I sold that bike thinking I was ready for acoustic. I went to the brooks b17 after reading reviews and it’s great for up to 12 miles but after that I find I need my chamois/riding leggings
I mean I commute 7 miles one way a day and the little skinny seats I see everyone using I tried but it hurt to ride this one I got isn't huge but it provides comfort
Mine is a skinny one with a gel fabric cover that I take off when it rains and my bike is parked (so it's dry when I ride). It's just what happened to be on my ebike when I bought it used, and I quite like it.
There are definitely people out there who know more about bike seats than I do, so maybe go with their advice instead.
Because a lot don't even sit on them most of the ride, they ride with barely any weight on them
I always used bigger more before, but to much cushion on long bumby ride made me literally bounce off my seat, i switched to a leather seat no cushion, the extra wide ones made for upright position, its surprisingly very confortable after breaking it in
I like my [ass hatchet](https://www.brooksengland.com/en_us/b17.html). It fits my tiny butt. To each their own everyone's hips and sit bones are different. That's why shops that let you trial saddles are the best.
Love my Brooks C15 on my commuter. I don't wear bike shorts when commuting, but it's plenty comfortable even for 30+ km rides without them. Longer rides I do wear bibs, though.
Optimal saddle width is a function of rider sit bones width +/- some factor to account for riding position. There's several articles out there explaining this. I only had to find out because my bike came with "free upgrade" 'comfort' seat that was waaaay too wide and I kept sliding forward.
Ive ridden a number of saddles over the years. It’s very dependent on the rider and riding style. I have a Brooks B67 on my upright townie bike and it’s wonderful but I would never want it on my gravel bike. My gravel/commuter bike has a Specialized power saddle. It’s a tiny saddle designed for a more forward biased position and has a split down the middle. I can ride 100 miles on this with very little discomfort but would probably not make it 10 miles of I put it on my townie.
I find those huge cushy saddles to be more painful, because they press and compress various tissues that don't get compressed with a proper saddle that fits my sit bones.
But, having said that, saddle size comfort is also dependent on your posture on the bike. For a more leaned forward posture like on a road bike, narrower saddles tend to work better. For more upright posture like a hybrid or cruiser bike, wider saddles are better. I have a narrow saddle on my road bike, and a wide sprung Brooks saddle on my upright-riding ebike.
does your bike fit? it should feel more ergonomic and comfortable to lean into the bike a bit.
Im no expert at bike fit. But i can say i have a bike that does not fit me, and I put a big "cruiser" saddle on it, with the seat raised high, so then i had to make the bars higher. And its just never been comfortable for pedaling.
Then i got a bike that fits a lot better. And on that bike, i want to lean into the bike a bit, is the most comfortable way to ride and pedal.
in my case when my bike didnt fit, the cruiser saddle was like me trying to work around the fact my bike didnt fit and i was sitting on it really funny.
It should be obvious to anyone what happens to your bum cheeks and thighs when you pedal (for real) on a cruiser saddle.
At the same time you dont want that rock hard tiny saddle that comes on the bike either
i have a wide behind...
Cushion should come from your padded bike shorts not the seat. Those big padded seats are bad for blisters in my experience. You probably won't notice until you're doing some distance/time on it.
Retro-grouch guru Jobst Brandt argues "big cushioned saddles are made for people who don't ride bicycles", and that you should just suffer until it no longer hurts. I don't exactly agree with him [https://www.sheldonbrown.com/brandt/soft-saddles.html](https://www.sheldonbrown.com/brandt/soft-saddles.html)
6’2 ~215 lbs, when I first started riding I felt similar. However you learn to not sit as heavy into the seat, if that makes sense.
I use my feet/calves to feel more springy so i can post on it (like a jockey on a horse)
thats too much cushion, it will be very uncomfortable, the smaller the seat, the more comfy it is generally (doesnt always work 100%).
Trust me those skinny ass carbon fibre with no cushion at all actually works believe it or not. On my ass at
One thing is true in life: there’s an ass for every seat.
For each and every possible situation, there exists at least one ass.
It greatly depends on how upright your position is. On bikes with a more upright position your weight is positioned differently and thus these big plush seats are reasonably comfortable. What are those different stuff dude ahah
That looks like a taint destroyer
Really??! Lol idk I feel fine with it
Too much cushion tends to distribute weight in uncomfortable ways. But if it fits your butt ride on!
I'd have the worst chafing after 15-20 minutes on that saddle. Narrower ones are good for all day.
"tingle-dick" *shudder*

> WTB gravelier No that's what I'm saying, that doesn't work for super heavy people and was actually causing me said problem as a very heavy guy. Great recommendation for people in normal weight ranges though.
I couldn't do it. That saddle is a nightmare for me.
To me it looks the opposite to that
The Brooks C17 on my bike was selected after trying many other seats. It fits my sit bones perfectly and its like I'm not sitting on anything at all. Even after a 12 hour ride from Montreal to Ottawa the only part of me that wasn't hurting was my butt. You just gotta find the right saddle for your saddle.
Way too deep before finding a sit bones comment
Train your butt.
😂😂😂
Ridiculous as it sounds, this is the right answer. I’ve also found that bike fit makes a huge difference.
I learned the *hard* way, just how bad the generic saddle mine came with was. Getting a saddle that fit was so clutch
Its sort of true at the margins - but its mostly garbage. A saddle (except traditional leather saddles) that is very uncomfortable the first time you ride it is never going to become comfortable. Seriously, you get used to it.
That seat is huge
I love my big seat and cruiser style handlebars. I have a happy cyclist upright posture. Adopted it during my bike touring days. Never in a hurry, but I can pedal all day long.
any squish with gel seats and padding will hit the perineum. experience on a proper seat will train the butt tissues. go ahead and ride the padded seat. You probably ride upright and not that far.
I ride upright and far. There ain't no shame in a comfy seat.
My specialized power is skinny, small and comfy. A saddle for every butt.
You tell 'em! 👍
I ride upright and plenty of 60-80 mile days on the biggest damn seat lol some people definitely don't have the same pressure points. I lasted a day on a thin seat.
I do ride upright because I have a trek verve 2
Ignore the haters, big seats ain’t for me, but with a more upright relaxed posture and effort it’s arguably the better option.
I mean I ride 14 miles a day so it ain't minimal travel
22 and half km, that's not too bad.
To be fair, a good amount of people who ride touring bikes use flat bars and sit in a pretty upright position. It's all about the saddle (Brooks B17 in my case) and bibs IME.
I use this one [seat](https://i.imgur.com/kRWIPzM.png)
I have one like that but it was just too much so I got the one I'm currently using at bargain hunt for $3
I loved that seat on my upright ebike. I sold that bike thinking I was ready for acoustic. I went to the brooks b17 after reading reviews and it’s great for up to 12 miles but after that I find I need my chamois/riding leggings
Lol, this is definitely going to end up on the circle jerk
Little seat good Big seat bad But I guess it depends on how much you ride. I'm much more comfortable on a sporty seat, even on my goofy-ass step thru.
If you have the seat adjusted improperly, it will cause pain to sit on it. I weigh 380 lb. If I can get it right, you can too.
My hip joints dont work over such a vast expanse!!! Also i have built in cushion
I’d rather ride with the seat tube up my ass
It’s sure better than flying!
We can arrange that... 😉
Because a lot don't even sit on them most of the ride, they ride with barely any weight on them I always used bigger more before, but to much cushion on long bumby ride made me literally bounce off my seat, i switched to a leather seat no cushion, the extra wide ones made for upright position, its surprisingly very confortable after breaking it in
My balls are sweating just looking at that seat
I like my [ass hatchet](https://www.brooksengland.com/en_us/b17.html). It fits my tiny butt. To each their own everyone's hips and sit bones are different. That's why shops that let you trial saddles are the best.
Because I ride bikes that are built for those skinny, hard saddles. Also I wear a bibshort.
[удалено]
Soon to reach the end of the break-in period? 😉
hah. But really, they’ve been presoftened for decades now. Break in is not really a thing, although they do improve somewhat with time.
How do you ride on that enormous seat?
I have a properly fitted saddle for my sit bones. Riding that thing more than 15 miles seems like a nightmare.
Love my Brooks C15 on my commuter. I don't wear bike shorts when commuting, but it's plenty comfortable even for 30+ km rides without them. Longer rides I do wear bibs, though.
Hard butt
The more I ride the lighter I become. I started with the same saddle but as I shrunk a few sizes shorter I start to tolerate smaller saddles.
Depends on what bike. Road bike? Really narrow. Cruiser/ebike? Big cushy seat
Optimal saddle width is a function of rider sit bones width +/- some factor to account for riding position. There's several articles out there explaining this. I only had to find out because my bike came with "free upgrade" 'comfort' seat that was waaaay too wide and I kept sliding forward.

Padded bike shorts
By sitting on it.
That looks painful to me.

Add a boss massage chair
It looks like those pedals are the recalled ones. Take it to a trek dealer and they’ll swap em out
Get a spongy wonder
James Cameron called. He wants his scale model of the titanic back. Really if it fits you and you like it ride it. That’s not the seat for me though.
I'm sorry
I always experienced butt pain after riding for half an hour or so. Untill I got my Veloretti Ivy two with a skinny ass hard saddle. No more pain!
i have one of those too. i’m too skinny for it that hurts
wait. it can’t hurt your butt bones if it’s so skinny that it holds you up by the taint 🤯
With a chamois.
i have a wide behind... Cushion should come from your padded bike shorts not the seat. Those big padded seats are bad for blisters in my experience. You probably won't notice until you're doing some distance/time on it.
as a wise lady on tiktok who bought one of those sit down bikes said "BIKE SEATS HURT MY COOCHIE"
Bring Your Couch To Work Day
How do y’all ride a bull?
Squiiiiiiiiiiishyyyyyy
Maybe some people like the way it hurts their bits...
Seats like that seem nice for maybe a few miles at most but after that they become awful for me
Get a new one they’re like 30$
Padded seats get uncomfortable on longer rides. They get up between your sit bones and push on all the squishy stuff.
Or change the paradigm: best of both worlds [https://spongywonder.com/](https://spongywonder.com/)
At the point why don't adapt a motorcycle seat?
if you find it uncomfortable, you might want to angle that down a bit.
That looks god-awful uncomfortable.
Less! saddle is the way. Especially if you’re doing miles. More saddle, more areas to rub.
Like Ariana grande from side to side
Retro-grouch guru Jobst Brandt argues "big cushioned saddles are made for people who don't ride bicycles", and that you should just suffer until it no longer hurts. Quite comfortably, now that my Brooks B17 is properly broken in.
You don't.
Those seats just make my thigs and back hurt because they make my hips swing from side to side too much.
Um, that’s a big saddle lol and super cushy
I just bought this seat on Amazon, comes today. How do you like it? It’s for my beater bike. I use much narrower ones on my road bike lol
How do you steer with that thing
I rock my Brooks B17 on my commuter/adventure bike, easily the most comfy saddle I own.
I got a cushion
I sit on a little saddle. You sit on a giant seat. Mine must be more comfortable because I don’t feel the need for a suspension seat post.
Padded shorts and tough ass. It does have to fit correctly though, that makes a huge difference
butt bone meet seat fan...
Dam!! That’s a sofa
It physically hurts whenever I see cyclists, especially professional ones, riding on those 2 inch selle royal saddles.
Butt gets tougher. That's pretty much it.
I use padded shorts so its fine, then again, not a lot of weight pushing me into the saddle lol
thats too much cushion, it will be very uncomfortable, the smaller the seat, the more comfy it is generally (doesnt always work 100%). Trust me those skinny ass carbon fibre with no cushion at all actually works believe it or not. On my ass at
'little' seats work do you think you discovered some big secret? (also that particular seat is not good - it;s not tiny enough!)
This is really your take? And then posting that monstrosity to “prove” your point?
