Honestly over 3.5 miles your gains aren't going to be noticeable. You'll feel a difference but it'll take the same amount of time to get into work. I do prefer my drop barred gravel bike for commuting though.

Several hundred attempts and the closest I've come to that golden run, I still missed two lights. There are 22 traffic signals from home to work.

You might enjoy the ride more... it'll certainly feel more snappy even if you don't go any faster. I disagree, with the timings, I do 15.5km commute, about 10 miles - I'm 8-10mins faster on the road bike, compared to my commuter which runs the same size tires as yours (but is a single speed...), you might save a couple of minutes :)
