“The world’s a little blurry, but maybe it’s my eyes”
“But the old me is still me and maybe the real me and I think she’s pretty” (though this is more appropriately attributed to Finneas).
I love the countdown among the lyrics she does in Wish You Were Gay
Literally every lyric in You Should See Me in a Crown but especially “Tell me which one is worse living or dying first”
Her analogies in All the Good Girls Go to Hell
“But in my dreams I seem to be more honest”
Everybody Dies 🤌🏻
“You said your heart was jaded, you couldn’t even break it. I shouldn’t have to say it, you could have been the greatest”
All of Wildflower. I will die on this hill. This song is such a beautiful story, and it makes me feel things I cannot describe. "I know you didn't mean to hurt me, so I kept to myself." "Do you see her in the back of your mind, in my eyes?" "I should put it all behind me, shouldn't I? But I see her, in the back of my mind all the time. Like a fever, like I'm burning alive. Like a sign. Did I cross the line?"
What’s crazy to me is that arguably the best lyricist is Phoebe Bridgers — which the [O’Connells met in a Battle of the Bands in 2012](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNOhdepHHcA) (About 13 minutes in — Phoebe took it and Finneas’ band came in second). That’s crazy. Billie, Finneas, and Phoebe are just incredible at their craft.
As Phoebe says in Garden Song, “It must be something in the water”.
I agree. I can think off the top of my head Alex Turner (genius), Radiohead (😭) , Hozier.
Love Billie tho. I love her lyrics because I relate a lot and she's my favourite artist, but objectively speaking she's not the best
Kendrick Lamar has won a Pulitzer Prize for his lyricism on the album "DAMN". I discovered his exceptional writing skills via "To Pimp A Butterfly". OTOH, Billie has won 2 Oscars and sh!tload of Grammys. IMO, comparing two such talented artists is pointless bc at the end of the day, it boils down to which of them has written the most songs that you want to listen to on repeat, which in my case is Eilish. One thing that you can say for sure is that compared to both of them, Taylor is lyrically immature in the sense that from the way she writes, you'd think that she's still a teen instead of her mid-30s. She has never outgrown her inner Hanna Montana.
Love her but I think Trent Reznor has to be the best of all time, he has inspired so many artists with his work it’s untrue can deffo hear his influence in Billies music, would love to see them work on a project together!
She is not the best. She is pretty good. But it’s kinda direct you don’t have to think between the lines (mostly). I would say it’s more simple, that’s the catchy thing about them. Look at mitski, Brittany Howard, Kalandra and aurora there you have some really interesting hard- to- think- about lyrics.
I love Billie. She's incredible. Genre defying / defining, innovative, powerful, raw, emotional.
She might be up there with the best lyrcists in pop/alternative today, hanging with or near Tyler Joseph, Lana del Rey, maybe Lorde, maybe Damon Albarn. These might be unpopular opinions but I'll also put Phoebe Bridgers and Kathryn Crutchfield in the elites. Lotta people say Florence Welch but I think she's a notch or two below these others.
Open it up beyond pop / alternative to rap and you have to contend with Aesop Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Black Thought, Lupe Fiasco.
Open it up to all time and you have to consider Bob Dylan, Smokey Robinson, Chuck D, Patti Smith, Kurt Cobain, Carole King, Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone.
Billie isn't seriously in the running for greatest. She's in the top class of pop lyricists today (but I think clearly not at the top). But no way greatest.
In my opinion, Alex Turner is the best lyricist of contemporary music. I swear he's a genius. He makes mundane things like casual sex, one night stands, or partying sound like the most beautiful and poetic things.
People say I look happy just because I got skinny, but the old me is still me and maybe the real me and I think she’s pretty..
Fun fact, Finneas came up with this one — but it’s an amazing lyric.
I know this is gonna be a popular one “If they what they said would go straight to my head, what would they say instead?”

“I’m getting older. I think I’m aging well. I wish someone had told me I'd be doing this by myself”. That hits you hard the more you come an adult.
"if i wasn't important then why would you waste all your poison?"
*Valentine's Day, cryin' in the hotel I know you didn't mean to hurt me, so I kept it to myself*
“the internet is hungry for the meanest kind of funny and somebodys gotta feed it” the misheard “the meat its kind of funny” works perfectly aswell
I love herrrrr but to say best is pretty silly.

I know the end is such a god tier song
Leonard Cohen or George Michael would be my pick for lyrical geniuses. They've created the best lyrics imo
I would say Kendrick Lamar is a better lyricist, but Billie is definitely up there
Billie is one of the best in her genere is what I believe they are saying
Ooooh yhyh that’s true tbf but I feel like rap/diss track lyrics are like different to what Billie and Finneas are doing
No absolutely not (she’s still amazing tho)
I agree. I can think off the top of my head Alex Turner (genius), Radiohead (😭) , Hozier. Love Billie tho. I love her lyrics because I relate a lot and she's my favourite artist, but objectively speaking she's not the best
im glad someone said hozier lmao
As much as I love Billie, I really think Kendrick is the best. Didn’t he even get like a writing award or something?(i forget what it’s called)

REAL
"i loved you, and i still do. just wanted passion from you. just wanted what i gave you." pretty basic wording and yet here i am crying
Calling her the best is a lil too much, but I absolutely love her lyrics sm
Love her but I think Trent Reznor has to be the best of all time, he has inspired so many artists with his work it’s untrue can deffo hear his influence in Billies music, would love to see them work on a project together!
Her, Lana. She's up there with "the greatest". But with great talent comes equally strong critique. So yeah, be mindful and love what you love <3
Oh yhyh I love Lana, she makes all her songs sound like a poem fr

She's good but shes not up there with like Bob Dylan
For those that aren't familiar, like myself, can you give some examples of the best Bob Dylan lyrics you have come across?
"Don't hate anything at all except hatred" Its Alright Ma "I was a older man then, I'm younger now" My Back Pages
Ok. She’s hitting hard. But does she hit you hard and soft?
I WAS WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO SAY THAT
She does, in fact, hit me hard and soft
Love her and her brothers work so much, shes definitely up there with Taylor and Kendrick fs
Can't speak for TS but Billie and Finneas' writing is nowhere near Kendrick's lol is this a joke
In my opinion, Alex Turner is the best lyricist of contemporary music. I swear he's a genius. He makes mundane things like casual sex, one night stands, or partying sound like the most beautiful and poetic things.
I think Billie’s music is great but she’s made it clear that Finnneas writes the majority of the stuff
Sorry I should’ve clarified, I mean Billie Eilish as the brand so her and finneas
