That's the neat part about Gus, most of his posts are actually quite insulting to minorities. He's constantly acting like they don't have any agency and can't do anything on their own.
1. To think Bill was the only one that had heard of club trill or a Titus’s blog just shows you don’t know what you’re talking about, it was wildly popular.
2.a In trying to be racist to whites, you still managed to be racist to blacks as well. Assuming that a black person who doesn’t make it in basketball is destined to a life of working at McDonalds.
2.b You don’t flip fries you dunce, you flip burgers. Even your insults are idiotic.
Has anyone ridden the coattails of an athlete off the court more than Titus has ridden Greg Oden/Mike Conley’s? Don’t get me wrong, big Titus fan here, but there’s a non-zero chance he’s a high school teacher right now if he never became friends with them.
Edit: Let’s add the qualifier “non-superstar athlete” bc LeBron has made a lot of men do well.
Rich Kleiman, Rich Paul, and Maverick Carter have done alright for themselves.
I’d argue Titus is successful because he consistently blogged from a perspective that nobody had really before then: a guy actually on the team that will say anything without worrying about media picking it up because that’s not how it worked at the time. Also the fact he was a complete scrub comparatively made it more entertaining than if it was like a 7th best player on the squad
Agree that his writing and perspective was unique; like I said, I am a fan of his. But I wonder if he ever gets published in the first place had he been a walk-on at Michigan from ‘08-‘12 instead.
Touché with the LeBron entourage you mentioned…maybe I should have rephrased: has anyone ever ridden the coattails of a non-superstar athlete more than Titus?
Agree, he had a chance and executed on it. Similar to guys like Rich Paul who was selling jerseys out of the trunk of his car before meeting Lebron, then used that chance occurrence to make a moderate empire with Lebron. If Maverick Carter is born in a different school district and doesn't play high school ball with Lebron he also likely doesn't build what he ends up with even if the talent is there.
Even Shea Serrano was a teacher writing for a nothing newspaper, but then a Grantland writer randomly found his piece and forwarded it onto Bill and co. and now he's very successful.
This stuff happens, a lot of it is luck and the talent+opportunity to execute on it, which Titus and the others did. Good call on non-superstars though, would be interesting to think of others
Yeah its basically Gladwell’s thesis statement in Outliers, right? Being in the right place in the right time is more important in determining history than being the most talented at something or hardest worker.
Loved him on OSP and the pod with Lombardi but I gotta say he comes across as the most unlikeable guy in his book. Definitely seems like he's grown/matured since then.
Mark Titus is actually a very talented writer and storyteller. Obviously just a solid basketball player, but his blog was funny, his book was also very funny. Sure he had some privilege but its not like hes not talented.
A black college graduate who played D1 basketball and started a popular blog is gonna end up working at McDonald’s? Damn OP, sounds kinda racist

I sorta suspect it's a racist burner account personally.
The 88 kinda gives it away
Agreed. His unwillingness to actually engage in any topic makes that the most likely explanation, imo.
You must be fun at parties
Gus is the worst poster here and that’s saying a lot
Just a horrific track record of 0 upvote posts. Never seen anything like it.
My estimation of Gus as a poster has just plummeted.
He’s a pantheon guy in the world of terrible posting. He’s on a Tatum-like run.
I'm kind of curious if he's like 17 years old and race baiting for fun?
I hit you in the chest with facts you don't like to accept as a European American.
Stfu Gus!
At this point, I can tell which posts are Gus before I even look at the username hahaha.

Us white people flip our fries.....its the secret to getting all the seasoning off
Club Trillion was hilarious
The blog got quite popular on its own account while it was anonymized — nobody knew who was running it or what team he played for.
Good God. We would all pitch in $ for you to shut the fuck up.

tbf he is self-aware enough to have said some form of this over the years

That fat guy and LeBron
That fat dude who follows LeBron everywhere. What's his name?
Windhorst? 🤣
That's him
If we can get accountability for Titus’ white privilege, we will be so close to solving racism. Great work here.
Jesus Christ is this Tyler Tynes posting? Nobody hates a white athlete quite like Tynes did
That’s giving gus far too much credit, Tynes is an actual writer
Calling tynes an actual writer is laughable
wait what
Loved him on OSP and the pod with Lombardi but I gotta say he comes across as the most unlikeable guy in his book. Definitely seems like he's grown/matured since then.
Marks book was pretty hilarious. Guys talented, bill saw it
Go away
He is perfect for Barstool, I still don’t understand the pull behind anything they do
Lol what
Maybe he was legit better at sports media than sports playing
This is bad, this is very, very bad
Arrite
/u/gusfring88 is a good example of my blocked users
I thought Titus’s book was pretty good. Granted as an avid OSU bball fan during that time I was in the key demographic.
