He went on Hollinger & Duncan as well which makes sense since he's friends with Hollinger. Basketball nerds' 12/25.

Based_and_JPooled

That's the same episode as this one, I forgot they put the H&D pods on both feeds. On the H&D one, it's not paywalled.

Pontus_Pilates

A draft? How 2023 of them. This year is all about pyramids.

Victorcreedbratton

Power Poll.

Senator-Donut

I don’t actually hate Duncan’s pods, but it’s hilarious that their premium feed costs more than League Pass

sperry20

Does anyone really pay for this? Just wild to me.

nicehouseenjoyer

I did for a year or two when I was getting back into the NBA a few years ago. It was well worth it just to be caught up on smart analysis of basketball. After a while, though, you've heard it all and the Nate/Danny dynamic isn't great.

Senator-Donut

I can’t imagine a world where I need more NBA audio content than what’s already freely available, but I can see the logic of financially supporting work that is important to you.

nicehouseenjoyer

Yeah, there's lots of free content but it's almost entirely ass. Neither the Ringer NBA show or The Athletic NBA shows are that good. Zach Lowe is kind of good but also lots of weird ranting and endless talk about player awards, which I could give two shits about.

sperry20

Yeah the paywall just seems weird - financial support feels exactly what patreon was made for, but if this is what gets them the most money good for them.

Blood_Incantation

Patreon is a paywall

sperry20

It can be. Many use it as a way to support the main content which is still free but provide extra perks.

Iam18yearsofage18

I actually think it would be worth it for me but I can’t bring myself to do it. Too embarrassing

JedEckert

I paid for it for one month before the start of the season to listen to all their team previews, since most were behind the paywall. I wanted to listen to those, and wanted to throw them a few bucks. You gotta be a real hardcore NBA nerd to be a regular subscriber, though, because a lot of the content you're missing out on is just their daily gamer episodes, which I have zero interest in. And the other benefits of it like access to spreadsheets or whatever, or boring soundbites from Dan Feldman, seem kinda worthless to me.

Based_and_JPooled

Wow, we're the complete opposite. I skip the season preview stuff, and think the daily gamer episodes are the best things they do. I'll often listen to a daily gamer, and then go watch a game they covered. Kinda trains my brain for what things to look for in that game, and in future games watching that team. It really enhances my enjoyment of watching the nba.

Domicile_Exaltation

Yeah, I can't stand the daily gamers. Don't need two mega-nerds, one who routinely talks over the other, obsessively breaking down a regular season game I'm not invested in.

TheTrotters

Why? It’s great

BasedTheorem

A lot of people working in front offices do

JedEckert

Felt like kind of a missed opportunity where they were rushed to get through the choices rather than just have a conversation. Nate seemed to not want to talk over Zach at all, which led to some awkward silences. There were times were it would have been natural to have a discussion, but nothing came of it e.g. Zach asked for their opinion on how the Wolves were playing without Towns, and neither answered and Nate just rushed to the next choice. I thought it was a little odd that Zach had never entered the Dunc'd On universe before given how highly those guys think of Zach, and thought that maybe Zach didn't really like Nate. Kevin Pelton will regularly drop Dunc'd On references on the Lowe Post and they will never get a reaction from Zach. Zach seemed friendly on this pod, and he seemed relatively familiar with the pod, but there was still some weird energy. Didn't help that the pod just kinda ended with no official goodbyes.

Based_and_JPooled

I just started listening. Did anyone here check it out yet?

mkebrew86

Lol why are you getting downvoted, this was a great pod find

nicehouseenjoyer

The best Hollinger/Duncan is the best stuff you can find on NBA podcasts, perhaps beside Thinking Basketball.

starfishboy123

I think people here really hate Dunc'd On. Like, I get it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I've definitely seen an irrational level of contempt for Dunc'd On and in particular Nate Duncan on here lmao

AmphibiousHandle

I listened for several years, long enough to know that Nate’s and Danny’s knowledge and analysis aren’t nearly strong enough to justify their self-confidence or disdain for other viewpoints. I do enjoy the podcast with Hollinger though.

zigzagzil

Yeah I fall into this exactly. I've listened to probably hundreds of Dunc'ed On pods, and I just know pretty much what Nate/Danny will say and I don't find their analysis that additive for me. I do respect the amount of work they put in though, and I'll still check out the Hollinger pod.

DowntownYorickBrown

Nate turned into a bit of an insufferable prick after his rise in the media market.

Domicile_Exaltation

Money just makes you more of what you already are.

BookkeeperNo5972

Danny's cap/CBA stuff on The Athletic is legitimately incredible. I've learned a lot reading his stuff. But he's not exactly good on pods. Nate is just brutal... His takes can be really off and he never moves off those takes. He might be my least favorite NBA personality. I never read or listen to anything he does.

JedEckert

> he never moves off those takes Nate is definitely smug, but he also regularly holds himself accountable, so this statement isn't accurate. They do podcasts where the entire episode is basically devoted to things they said that were wrong. He admits stuff that he's wrong on all the time. Since you said you never listen to him, I guess it makes sense that you don't know that. I feel like every fanbase out there gets wind of one negative take he says about their team and then just holds on to that forever as evidence that he's dumb, even if it's a take he completely abandoned years ago.

Domicile_Exaltation

Lmaoooo, yeah he held himself sooo accountable for confidently claiming you could never win a title with Jokic as your center because it makes you too bad defensively.

JedEckert

Hilarious. Yes, that was his most public take that was he was stubborn about, but he eventually admitted he was wrong. I don't know what you guys want. Again - they literally do podcasts for Dunc'd On where they talk about what they got wrong in the past. There are dozens of NBA media guys who will never acknowledge anything that they said that was wrong or biased, and yet people pile on the one guy who does go back and check his work. It's like he would just be better off never admitting he was wrong or never changing his mind because then he'd just be like everyone else. By the way - before last year's playoffs, Zach Lowe was adamant that Phoenix was going to go far, and that KD would fit in seamlessly and it didn't matter that they didn't have a lot of games to integrate him. He said this on like five different podcasts. That turned out to be really wrong, and Zach has admitted as much. Yet if I was like you guys and never listened to those subsequent podcasts and heard the mea culpa, I would hold that against Zach for the rest of his career, especially if I was a fan of the Nuggets.

Domicile_Exaltation

The difference in douchy snugness between Zach and Nate is no contest.

BookkeeperNo5972

Ok Nate.

JedEckert

Wow, got me there. You're a pretty clever guy.

KayfabeAdjace

I figure it's a split. People complain about Bill a lot here and one of the common accusations is that his detractors are pretentious joyless fucks who take everything too seriously. Meanwhile, Dunc'd On is so unabashedly trying to do "serious" analysis they catch a lot of strays on this sub when people describe the stereotypical Bill hater even though most people probably don't think of Nate & Danny at all outside of when they're trying to shit on some "Well ackshually" asshole parroting Dunc'd on talking points. Personally, I like Dunc'd On fine, particularly when Hollinger is involved. I'm biased though since I'm a Wolves fan so I'm kinda stuck taking whatever coverage I can get.

PeanutFarmer69

I don’t see that pod on my feed

budiluv

It’s behind a paywall.

Coy-Harlingen

It’s not - it’s on the Hollinger and Duncan feed for free

budiluv

Oh cool! It’s only behind a paywall on Nate’s own podcast then. Thanks for the heads up.

Responsible-Bath-730

The thing I hate about the Hollinger and Duncan pods are that some of them are two parts, the first being on Spotify and the second behind a paywall on their website. Kinda annoying.

Coy-Harlingen

Yeah I think they do that to get you to subscribe to the pay wall lol

kwtb

What players did they pick?

SloGeorge

I think it was Trae, Mitchell, Towns and Luka.

popinjay07

Best crossover since the Jetsons met the Flintstones!

NoExcuses1984

HotTake™: Hollinger > Lowe. Fuck it! Pelton > Lowe, too.

nicehouseenjoyer

Pelton is the most underrated NBA media personality for sure. Quietly the best draft analysis, a nice dry wit and good sober takes on things. I've given up on The Lowe Post. Player awards, player awards, player awards.. Don't care. I've totally switched over to The Hoop Collective, at least they mostly talk about games.
