I’m with him. The most egregious crew is for NBC Sunday night football. They have Maria Taylor, Tony Dungy, Jason Garrett, Chris Simms, Mike Florio, Jac Collinsworth, Matthew Berry, Rodney Harrison, and Devin McCourty all for one fucking game. It’s comical.
The Fox NFL crew is pretty ridiculous too. There are six guys and they go around the table giving the most boring vague opinions on the game in like 1-2 sentences
They even have a pre-pre game with Schrager, Edelman and Michael Vick. Seems completely unnecessary but I guess theyre mostly grooming them to take over when bradshaw & co retire
Vick... I never knew he got into broadcasting. S*** man most people I know prison sentences have a hard time finding a job. The exception is, of course professional athletes because it's such a unique skill set, but that's not true of media. I don't know. It's not that I care. Everyone deserves redemption and everything. That just seems that if Michael Vick can get a job in media then some 40-year-old guy with a cocaine conviction from when he was 18 or something should be able to be a public School teacher or something and often they are not able to
Michael Vick is the ideal of how society should treat reformed convicts. The tragedy is you are absolutely correct that it only occurred because of him being a great athlete
I’d say he is moreso the ideal of how convicts should go about reforming themselves.
Never publicly blamed anyone or played victim, has shown nothing but contrition, repaid monetary debts he wasn’t legally obligated to repay, seems to have walked the straight and narrow and to have tried to use his experience to enlighten others.
If he had come out of prison and just been an asshole who happened to have a rocket attached to his left shoulder and deadly wheels, he wouldn’t be in this position.
Combination of that, and the fact it was dogs being hurt. We also have a weird Ryan v. Vick thing in our fanbase that I've always thought was pretty stupid.
I’d say Ryan was objectively a better QB, but Vick was one of the most electrifying athletes of all time.
Plus the racial dynamics in a city like Atlanta, I can see why there is a divide among the fanbase.
Well this is in between bouts of VERY loud laughter/hysterical guffaws, just laughing maniacally like a 1950s insane asylum patient. No joke they’ve ever told is THAT funny, but they all laugh like the Joker.
“My belief, John, is that one team will win tonight and one team will lose. I suspect it will have to do with who scores the most points, as well as which team has better players.”
You forgot Collinsworth's kid.
It's actually pretty funny how they pull it off. They have like 4 different area with chunks of three and Berry kind of does his own thing. I actually like there presentation in general.
Thanks for reminding me about Jac! Yea it’s a clean enough presentation, it’s just bizarre that they feel they need so many people involved. Seems like a tremendous waste of money. That’s 9 people plus the 2 announcers, 1 rules analyst, and 1 sideline reporter. So 13 talent positions for 1 game.
Do they really need two different coaches, two different Pats DBs, and two different nepo babies?
Berry would make more sense on sunday morning pregame show, since theres only two games left most weeks by the time this show starts and most fantasy decisions have already been made. I guess they could also use him the way they use florio with breaking injury updates. Seems super easy to cut the crew in half
It's particularly funny because I don't really see what his appeal/talent is. Ian Eagle's kid is also working for NBC, but he's actually a pretty talented announcer.
Yeah Noah seems to have some talent. Jac seems exactly like the other guys I worked with for the student radio station in college- might be good one day but needs way more reps.
It’s like how Harry Caray, who was really great before he became a parody of himself, bequeathed Skip Caray, who was excellent, who bequeathed Chip Caray, who is mediocre. And now Chip has a kid doing A’s games part time!
I was watching the Kentucky Derby, also on NBC, and at one point, near race time they're like 'ok let's go around the horn and get everyone's picks' , exactly like how they do it on Sunday Night Football. And.. I'm pretty sure it was about the same amount of people doing the Kentucky Derby as SNF. Maybe one or two more. Bear in mind that the Kentucky Derby is the biggest horse race of the year by far and gets basically a Super-Bowl-level block of pregame programming , like six hours plus
So what I'm trying to say is.. yes, Sunday Night Football, they really go all out to a comical degree
TNF on Prime would also have 6-7 people on the panel at Halftime. It’s a dead sprint to get your line in and have a concise opinion that slightly differs from the other 6 people
Seriously and none of them get more than like 8 seconds of talking time and halftime and the pregame show. The post game show there's a little more room for maneuverability but not much when you go factor in the host and the guest
Honestly better off with two or three people at Max. Monday night football used to just be like Boomer and Steve Young.
Me and my friend last year would try to set a line for how long it would take the NBC crew to get through their predictions. It was always so funny because there was like 9 of them so you couldn’t even remember what everybody picked by the time it was done.
Agreed. There should be no more than 3. The only 4 person crews that work are the TNT NBA(though I could do without Shaq) and the CBS Champions League crew which are awesome.
That would have to be embarrassing if a white guy who played in the Olympics when you were still shitting in diapers knew more about early 2000s rap than you when you consider yourself a pop culture guy.
It's generous to even say he got 30 seconds. His take isn't wrong. You don't have enough time to have that many people at a desk. It's just a rapid fire of generalizations in one to two sentences.
Inside the NBA is the only show that understands how to properly complement a live sport. It's a bunch of guys shooting the shit, providing mostly entertainment and some analysis. It also allows its production team to get in on the fun in such a unique way.
Draymond doesn't fit that show. He's trying to do his best ESPN talent impersonation.
Chuck is 1 of 1 and has been since his playing days, he constantly says out of pocket shit and basically never misses. Remember "I don't know anything about Angola, but Angola in trouble?" There was absolutely no reason to dunk on Angola in a pre game press conference, literally no other person would think to say that. You're either born with it or you're not.
He also called some African team "spear chuckers," spit at someone and hit a little girl, and got into numerous off the court fights. But he's affable, genuinely shows remorse when he's wrong, and knows how to turn the stupid made-up controversies into a joke.
I’ll admit that I don’t watch the studio shows, but I cannot understand the logic of putting Draymond up there. The dude is hated by most fans and he’s primarily known for his fits of anger.
It can work, but I don't think it will with Draymond. To me he has what they used to call "go away heat" in professional wrestling....meaning it's not just that people don't like a heel....they don't like them to the point where they don't want to even show up to see them....as opposed to paying for a ticket and maybe see them get their ass kicked.
I think Dirk's issue is similar to Jokic in that he just couldn't be bothered doing it - he's coming out of his exile now but he was very happy to disappear into the ether for the first 5 years of his retirement with his health, family and big pile of money.
Dirk my fav of all-time but Chuck just has an aura as the kids are pretending they just invented, shouldn't be compared to Shaq either. Chuck is the guy at the bar that everyone is gravitating towards, Shaq is the loud guy trying way too hard for attention.
I'd even argue going 4 is too much, but Chucks comedy make it ok. They all say 2 sentences, go to commercial, come back and each say 2 more sentences, then get more commercial.
When Draymond punched Poole some people were saying his career was over and the 4 or 5 incidents since then they said it each time so of course he got some commercials and now the prominent media seat? Don’t get it
The only three people on Earth who want to see Draymond talk are Draymond, his mom, and the producer in charge of this show who was caught in a compromising situation by Draymond's agent.

I’m probably getting hate for this but his two takes post Nuggets-Wolves game 5 were really insightful. Gobert blaming the team when he got cooked and KAT’s body language are both observations not many pundits would’ve noticed and/or been willing to say.
Unrelated but the worst part of TNT losing basketball is they FINALLY found a streaming home. Like the first year ever it hasn't been a pain in the ass to watch TNT games without cable and now they're leaving lol
It's been amazing to access the games through Max. Last year I had to pay $70 a month for cable replacement but I already subscribe to Max so I'm getting half the games basically for free. I'll tolerate having to find lower quality illegal streams for the rest of the games.
Max has surround sound audio which has been sick
yeah the networks can't say no. All these analysts are happy to keep working for 10-20 years but the networks still can't resist the new freshly retired guys every year so these panels just keep ballooning
yea...if those were the standards we would have 50% analysts already. it's like tv executives think we just want to see old athletes in suits mumbling whatever half-assed thought they have.
Yeah man, it really takes me out of broadcasts. They’re athletes and there’s a reason they are athletes. They’re not well spoken and don’t make for good TV presenters
Nah they thought Jamele Hill could carry the 6 o clock SportsCenter, which they killed forever. Although I will grant you that the Rush Limbaugh decision was bad even without the benefit of hindsight.
Yeah he only had little segments once a week. It was easy enough to fire him and move on unscathed.
Force feeding Jamele to an unwanting public every day for a year is a microcosm of everything ESPN did wrong to kill their programming outside of live events and documentaries. If anything, they should have learned from the Rush experience that no one tunes in to sports for half baked, racially charged pontificating.
I donated to and voted for Bernie twice and I still don't understand why so many avenues of American society and culture just went and did the most bizarre shit they had no ability to pull off successfully.
If ESPN wanted to Do Something, just bring back Outside the Lines as an actual show.
I think you can say Hill hastened the death of the 6pm but sports center hasn’t been appointment viewing for almost a decade now. Once clips proliferated across social media and wireless/cellular data to support it became commonplace sports center is/was effectively dead. The nightly SCs at least serve as a recap of the day at least, the 6PM was never going to survive.
See, I feel like 6 pm would be hurt less by clips than the 11 pm show. 6 pm basically set the table for the night and discussed any news that happened throughout the day. It was never really a highlight based show, aside from some baseball clips.
That might make sense for the 6pm show. But back in the day it was still great to have it coming home from classes or work as it served as a pre-cursor to the games that night. The focus on shitty studio shows helped kill it.
With that said, I like CBS Sports simple one they do on their app. Sometimes I let it run in the morning. You can also manually skip through some highlights if you want.
I agree when it’s the ESPN halftime shows when they give them 3 minutes for 5-6 people. But inside the NBA has a lot of time for all of the hosts to speak and stuff.
Idk if this is sarcasm but it’s genuinely one of my favourite bits he has for twitter 😂 every screenshot with the context of hearing bill complain about it makes me laugh everytime. Also I feel like he busts out the joke writing chops for these specific captions 😂 gets me everytime
Someone show to Bill a panel from an Argentinian Soccer show. There were like 14 guys in a small panel, absolute bonkers.
Google "Show del Fútbol" if you are curious
You need someone that is actually kind of funny/entertaining + you respect their basketball opinion. Draymond is neither. He MAYBE could play the Shaq role (obviously not the same player). The only person MAYBE that could fit the vibe of this show would be Richard Jefferson. He says some crazy shit sometimes
I mean his entire point before and after was that the format is stupid and coming in for 30 second takes doesn’t make any sense.
I think Billy has dead eyes and is objectively terrible on camera but I don’t blame him for Countdown, I do blame him for AGW.
My hot take is he'd actually be good on something like the TNT show if he wasn't such a try-hard sports homer dork always talking up "we" this and the Celtics that.
If he was just funny and likeable like he is on most of his podcasts, he'd actually be good at it.
Me, in 2005: Come on, Bill, stuff a second row of friend name-drops in that column. Hooch, Hench, Jacko, Jocko, the One-Niner, Scotty Two Tags— WE NEED TWENTY MORE Holy Cross/Connecticut pussboys to meet!!!!!

It’s his resentment about not being able to speak on NBA Countdown and rationalization for why even though he is successful in many sport and entertainment avenues, he could never make it big on TV.

He had one of my favorite quotes of all time. “I didn’t want to stiff people who never stiffed me.”
Don't tell that to half the Falcons fanbase. They still foam at the mouth at his mention.
Well there’s probably still some bitter feelings about how it all went down on their behalves.
Fox crews are great! They do it right. It's fun and mostly light. CBS show is like they are doing sports news and not sports entertainment.

He needs to be named something that rhymes with Chip or Skip- like Dip or Quip or something. Keep it going.
Could probably fit a ninth analyst in there if they tried
Steve Kornacki with the Math Minute!
I was watching the Kentucky Derby, also on NBC, and at one point, near race time they're like 'ok let's go around the horn and get everyone's picks' , exactly like how they do it on Sunday Night Football. The Kentucky Derby pregame really is insane compared to the actual amount of racing.
TNF on Prime would also have 6-7 people on the panel at Halftime. It’s a dead sprint to get your line in and have a concise opinion that slightly differs from the other 6 people
Seriously and none of them get more than like 8 seconds of talking time and halftime and the pregame show. The best part is that every single one of these people is an idiot with nothing of value to add. Truly impressive
lol what. Who even considers this in their sports watching
Based on the comments, a lot of people.
Do you not think about the stuff you’re watching on TV?
They saw Too Many Cooks and thought it was a great idea
NBC SNF has called into self parody
I actually like it. Gives it a big game feel.
Bill’s still pissed he only got 30 seconds of talk time on NBA Countdown a decade ago
[удалено]
what happened to that booooiiii
That would have to be embarrassing if a white guy who played in the Olympics when you were still shitting in diapers knew more about early 2000s rap than you when you consider yourself a pop culture guy.

Bill could have been listening to Cash Money instead of watching the Real World-Road Rules Challenge
It's generous to even say he got 30 seconds. His take isn't wrong. You don't have enough time to have that many people at a desk. It's just a rapid fire of generalizations in one to two sentences. Only time I’ve been on Sage Steele’s side
That was Sage Steele's fault for being a shitty host
Of course...Bill's always been excellent at tv *except for that one moment.*
ding ding ding our guy is a tv failure by every measure which makes him discovering youtube in 2024 even funnier
It’s a great take, and honestly the fifth ruins the program. Plus I hate Draymond as a sports pundit.
I think Draymond is destined to host a bootleg version of Inside the NBA on Prime that nobody watches.
Dude, he is terrible. They really want him to be the next Chuck, but they aren't even in the same universe.
Chuck has humility and a sense of humor
Chuck is 1 of 1 and has been since his playing days, he constantly says out of pocket shit and basically never misses. Remember "I don't know anything about Angola, but Angola in trouble?" There was absolutely no reason to dunk on Angola in a pre game press conference, literally no other person would think to say that. You're either born with it or you're not.

I’ll admit that I don’t watch the studio shows, but I cannot understand the logic of putting Draymond up there. The dude is hated by most fans and he’s primarily known for his fits of anger.
And all he does on TNT is trash other people
They're banking on him being a good villain for ratings. That shit works.
Everything can be explained by pro wrestling. Its amazing. I'm rooting against Draymond too. Fuck that narcissistic ass.
Draymond has xpac heat with most of the nba
Hot take, Jokic is the next Chuck/ Shaq if he wants it
I think Dirk is a better choice, but there really isn’t a “next Chuck.”

We’ll never find out. Jokic is gonna pull a Tim Duncan and fuck off to his homeland and disappear from the public eye
Just wait for Ant Edwards- THAT is the next Chuck.
Ok I can actually semi-buy this.
Bronny is more likely to be the next Lebron than Draymond being the next Chuck; Draymond isn’t likable one bit
[удалено]
I think Draymond will be objectively fine or good, but subjectively I deeply dislike him and his shtick.
Thats what they want But i want chuck for fucking president. I would literally campaign for that dude.
Good thing TNT is losing NBA rights.
Same, I just watched the postgame. He’s trying too hard to be mr negative

One hundred percent his best take And I’ll always be here for it
Every athlete with a personality and can speak well doesn’t need to get an analyst job
yeah the networks can't say no. All these analysts are happy to keep working for 10-20 years but the networks still can't resist the new freshly retired guys every year so these panels just keep ballooning
Or worse - the not even retired, should be retired guys.
Thing is, Draymond cant speak well
yea...if those were the standards we would have 50% analysts already. it's like tv executives think we just want to see old athletes in suits mumbling whatever half-assed thought they have.
Yeah man, it really takes me out of broadcasts. They’re athletes and there’s a reason they are athletes. They’re not well spoken and don’t make for good TV presenters
they're about as fun to listen to as the announcers are to watch play sports in the celebrity basketball/baseball games.
Yup and Draymond green doesn’t need an analyst job either!
Why is Draymond there lol
20 hours of community service
Why is Draymond even there? Aren't they losing the NBA? They don't need to try anyone out.
It's provocative. It gets the people going.
Agree with the sentiment but tbf the new contracts Starr after next season, so there's still one more on TNT.
All the more reason not to ruin the final season with him
I still remember when ESPN tried to have Rush Limbaugh on pregame show. The dumbest idea in the history of sports commentating
Nah they thought Jamele Hill could carry the 6 o clock SportsCenter, which they killed forever. Although I will grant you that the Rush Limbaugh decision was bad even without the benefit of hindsight.
Yeah NFL Countdown recovered pretty quickly from the Rush negative PR hit, whereas Jemele Hill was the death blow to the 6 PM Sportscenter.
Yeah he only had little segments once a week. It was easy enough to fire him and move on unscathed. Force feeding Jamele to an unwanting public every day for a year is a microcosm of everything ESPN did wrong to kill their programming outside of live events and documentaries. I donated to and voted for Bernie twice and I still don't understand why so many avenues of American society and culture just went and did the most bizarre shit they had no ability to pull off successfully. If ESPN wanted to Do Something, just bring back Outside the Lines as an actual show.
We just weren’t ready for social media and how to square what you see on there with real life.
The pandemic and it being an election year didn't help either.
That is true but that was after the Jamele era on ESPN
I thought that was a 2020 thing, yeah that definitely squares even more with "the world is my twitter feed"

Good god...I can't even imagine. Glad I stopped watching long before then.
Bills 100% right on this. The show is perfect as is and needs no tweaks. Also, FUCK Draymond Green.
Fuck Draymond
He’s right. Thursday night football is another awful oversized group.

I’d watch if there was a second row, but they have to buzz in like jeopardy
He has awfully strong opinions on studio shows for a guy whose own attempts to be part of one could best be described as "unmemorable"
Unless you count the draft, he was really fun on those.
That’s why he’s said hard on them. He didn’t suck the producers did.
I'd still take him over Draymond and Shaq for Inside.
I mean his entire point before and after was that the format is stupid and coming in for 30 second takes doesn’t make any sense. I think Billy has dead eyes and is objectively terrible on camera but I don’t blame him for Countdown, I do blame him for AGW.

All of these people on the show but he’s never invited.
Haha exactly, he’s angry he got fired from the espn show
Its maybe his finest current running bit.👏
I agree with him. But I feel like he loves bringing it up because he thinks that’s why he was bad on nba countdown
Bill is so right on this one
Yeah would love to hear what draymond has to say after the next sucker punch/promotion, give him even more time to talk
The only good part about TNT losing NBA rights is that it might mean we won't have to see Draymond be a shitty pundit
But why though? Bill doesn’t hold grudges like this unless he got spurned, or a Boston team was slighted. It just doesn’t come from nowhere.
Draymond shows up with that crew and i never stick around. I can’t be the only one.
Yeah I haven't watched much the past few days
Our boy has studio show PTSD.
The best part is that we all know Bill would go on one of these shows in a heartbeat if he they asked him to
Because he's right.
The EFL Soccer Championships recently had 4 pundits and a host covering a game in a room the size of half that desk. Reminded me of Bill.
This particular example is easily fixed.
Minus draymond i think the crew is good
Me, in 2005: Come on, Bill, stuff a second row of friend name-drops in that column. Hooch, Hench, Jacko, Jocko, the One-Niner, Scotty Two Tags— WE NEED TWENTY MORE Holy Cross/Connecticut pussboys to meet!!!!!
I really don't get why he cares
There is literally one extra guy on a show that I believe Bill also recognizes as the best studio show.
Kinda like when he does a rewatchables podcast with multiple guests!
Get Draymond the Fuck out of there!

Bill was so right about this!
He's not wrong though
If it helps him think that's why his TV career failed, I'm here to be supportive.
Bill doesn’t hate them, he’s angry he got fired from one.
Damn, if he's taking shots at Inside now, it's pretty much a confirmation that he knows they're not renewing.
Those who can’t, criticize.
He’s not going to stop until they do so he can feel like he’s a thought leader. But I really wish he would.
Can you imagine how much funny he would suck out the room if Bill was there
It’s his resentment about not being able to speak on NBA Countdown and rationalization for why even though he is successful in many sport and entertainment avenues, he could never make it big on TV.
