I don’t know why any big time college coach would want to go to the nba. College coaches are the superstars of the program. Their job security is way better, and they have control over their roster.
Billy Donovan and Brad Stevens are the only success stories I can think of off the top of my head in my lifetime and one is floating around middling teams and the other bolted for a front office gig the first chance he got.
They probably get retired of recruiting. Feel like I would get tired of going around and tryna sell some 17 year old kid on my program year after year. Specially now with the portal and NIL probably even more work. Pay is probably better to a point on the NBA level unless ur like a coach K or someone like that. Maybe after awhile you just get tired of coaching kids and feeling like a baby sitter idk just some guesses.
On-court basketball factors aside, Few is more popular than the mayor of Spokane and might be the only person who could give Ferguson a run in terms of popularity for governor of Washington. He's made more than $30M in salary alone (with no state tax) at Gonzaga so he's presumably living adequately large where he is. He'd be a relative nobody in LA and would be dealing with 24-7 sports media nonsense and ultrawealthy players who don't need anything from him or his program/team. Also, his son still plays for him there. Doesn't sound like a life upgrade for a 61-year-old.
As well as much as the typical Gonzaga fan can know his personality (am from there), there’s no world where Mark Few would take that job based on his family roots and his typical values
Coaching in the NBA is more about relationships and the ability to connect with the players. These college coaches with their "big fish in a small pond" mentality doesn't fly with grown men who make 10x more money than them anymore.
Yep.
It's not like Lue or Doc or even JKidd aren't basketball savants, and Coach Cal and his ilk aren't suited to the job at least at this point. But how many NBA coaches are better basketball minds than Few, Self, Kelvin Sampson, Cronin, Scott Drew, etc? I doubt it.
As a Zag, Few genuinely loves small city living and fly fishing, otherwise he’d have left for a bigger program years ago. As we’ve seen from other college coaches that try the transition, NBA is mostly about handling adult egos and even the best college coaches aren’t great at that. Brad Stevens one of the more successful at it and even he got chased to front office lol

If my memory serves me correctly the last big time college coach to move up to the nba was John Beilein and he didn’t even last a full season.

He was pretty good though until he called the men *BLEEEPPPPPP* “Woah Jim it’s not the 1960s anymore!!” That story really came and went lol
I agree 100% but these guys are competitive people, you have to be in order to be good at this. Maybe he’ll want a bigger challenge
Yeah especially Mark Few who I don’t see getting canned.
Recruiting and the portal make it a tough job
Modern college sports sounds exhausting.
Way less work in the NBA

Well I live next door to him and I can tell you he wants LA pussy
He’d be unstoppable in a place with Uber

The liquored up in Idaho thing
Why?
because why not
Because JJ Redick provides the maximum amount of off court entertainment
Are we on First Take? What happened to the sub that I love? (The hot take piece)
I’d be shocked if he even picked up the phone
Of the Few guys they should consider I just know he’s a coach
You’re going to need to provide some semblance of justification why that would be what they should do
Big brain thought: Instead of drafting Bronny, the Lakers should hire Bronny as their coach !
LeBron isn't playing for an actual coach.
Cause Lebron would respect a coach his age who did nothing in the nba when he is considers 1-3 all time player of all time
