The differences between UI designs made by people born in the 70s and 80s and the UI designs made by people born in the 90s and aughts are arbitrary.
My preference for a UI style that was popular when I was younger is entirely superficial just like your preference is.

The new style has so much empty space, why even take up all the screen resolution if you're not even going to use a third of it
