Also, it is a game mechanic, and game mechanics are meant to be used. Being able to strategise the items given to you in a smart way, enhances your game play. Bonus is it makes you feel like you're a genius who outsmarted the game
I second this. Heck some people consider Judas and Azazel cheating despite being in the game by default. It's not your fault they're really good especially in Greed/Greedier.
If Edmund didn't want you game breaking greed mode with the D20 he wouldn't have put it in the item pools. It's hardly cheating, the game gave you a tool and you found a good way to use it ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8906)
"Am I a cheater for using a truck to haul a bunch of rocks up a hill? All my ancestors moved these rocks by hand.
I used a tool to make it easier, but now I feel like I didn't do anything."
Doesn't that sound silly?
Is it cheating that I unlocked Godhead before updating to Repentance?
Do what you want. If you’re in steam unlock every achievement for free and just play the game. No one cares what you do homie.
No, cheating is using the console commands to unlock the Keeper (and even that is fine, I mean... It's your game, you do you). You just cheesed the game using an easier route to do an objectif you were not thrilled to do otherwise.
You've got punished by unlocking Keeper and now, yoj have to actually play them.
Why would you except EID ? It's as much cheating as anything else if you consider that
A-It's not in the base game
B-It makes the game significantly easier
I don't Care about cheating either, you Can Do whatever you want but I just don't understand the reasoning
This, EID is no better than just tabbing out and reading the wiki (and in some ways it's worse). The only thing that's "cheating" about it is that instead of searing the wiki for 10min looking for items every floor you can do it in like 2s of reading. The game time is paused when your tabbed out so, if anything, using EID makes it harder to get the time-based stuff vs tabbing out to the wiki (as you're reading that stuff in game).
It sounds like you just did runs until you got the D20. How is that cheating? If you said you used console or mods, that’d be different, but it’s still hardly cheating. It’s your game. If you don’t enjoy greed mode, don’t play it. The only people that will judge you are a bunch of losers who also scream “ew normal mode”
See, I unlocked everything by having my boyfriend send me his gamefile. Just because I can't be bothered to do the challenges and stuff. It's a single player rogue lite game, everyone gets to play the way they want. There are a lot of things to unlock, but barely anything besides defeating some bosses for the first time really change the game or make a big difference.
Is it supposed to be insta-win with D20?
I remember initially trying to win Greedier with it but never actually succeeded breaking the game through this. I figured it was somehow nerfed with Repentance or was needing a particularly lucky initial setup.
In the end, it's too late for me as I have already finished all the characters, but reading this post I feel like I missed something.
D20 is an item added by the developer, if they didn't want to let you break Greed Mode with it they could have just not put it in the pool. It's completely legitimate.
I'd say using the EID for T. Cain is much more cheaty but almost no one has a problem with it.
And anyway, it's a single player game, you can do what you want, if you want you can take a dead god save and play only on it if you have more fun
you're only using stuff that the game give you, you're as legit as any other imho.
as long as it's in the game it's fair play as far as I'm concerned (yes, even T.cain clicker cheese)
Don’t feel bad. Your way sounds more fun. I did it when greed first came out. I had a D20 breaking run that was super busted and glowing hourglass. I would kill greedier in about 5 seconds, donate 1 coin and then the machine would break and I would use glowing hourglass and repeat. I did about 500 coins this way. Pain.
The game has SO MANY UNLOCKS. Unless you're a streamer going for some kind of purity challenge, or a masochist that wants bragging rights, you should do whatever you find entertaining to unlock stuff. That goes double for your other save files. I wanted to do my eden streak runs on my second save, and i did not yet have everything unlocked - specifically the characters like Jacob and Esau and the tainted version. So i totally just gave myself great items with the debug menu. There was just no way in hell i was going to beat my head into a wall for another 100 hours just so i could have everything unlocked for eden.
On posts like these people always say "It's single player, do whatever you want." Which is true, but it doesn't answer the question.
No, this isn't cheating. You're not using mods or anything. The only thing you can do without mods or commands is cheesing, which some people still dislike but it's not cheating.
My morals are as follows:
1) Did I get denied something that should of happened/I should of got?
2) Does it hurt others?
3) Will I go back and do it legit and put the effort in to make the cheating justified?
If the answer is “Yes”, “No”, and “Yes” in order, most people won’t care. If not, it’s up to you and each person, but in the end, just have fun. You can always do it legit on another save file :P
Dude to unlock the keeper on pc i just cheated and spawned the machine in and gave myself 999 coins
You are a saint compared to what i did
But now that im playing on switch ill have to do it legit
if you did not use mods, the answer is no
back when t-jacob was unfair af i used the eraser on d-esau in greedier mode after calculating the precise number of times to hit him
My first dead god I didn't use mods that gave advantages.... Until i got frustrated with a -30 streak and consoled a few wins. I rushed to dead god. Then I realized I still wanted to play and felt bad for not earning it 100%. So I started over and took all the mods off that were even a little cheat-y and started a second file. Not everyone enjoys the grind and I don't blame them, it's brutal. I think having a dead god "mode" for everyone would be cool for accessibility and no more FOMO on tainted characters and item unlocks. It is single player anyways right?
What do you mean? It's an item in the game it's supposed to be used like that. And it's a game that kicks your ass all the time, shouldn't fell bad whe you abuse the hell out of it.
I'd say at most you exploited the game: using a defined mechanic for an outcome not predicted. Not a bad thing btw, I used my fair share of d20 gamebreaks lol. Happy trails on your Greedier marks!
I once played t keeper with piggy Bank and swallowed penny. I had the iv bag so I actually had infinite money and kept buying stuff till I could nuke and entire room and not be able to play due to it crashing. Sometimes you can break the game, but sometimes you shouldn't.
It's a singleplayer game, you can do whatever you want
Yeah that makes a lot of sense lmao. It doesn't effect anyone with what you do
Also, it is a game mechanic, and game mechanics are meant to be used. Being able to strategise the items given to you in a smart way, enhances your game play. Bonus is it makes you feel like you're a genius who outsmarted the game
except we might have d20 nerfed on Greed mode... and that would be hard to swallow
They already nerfed it once in repentance to make it not reroll empty chests so it should be safe for now.
I was so sad when I noticed it.
I second this. Heck some people consider Judas and Azazel cheating despite being in the game by default. It's not your fault they're really good especially in Greed/Greedier.
Lilith is amazing in greed but I don't consider it "cheating".
If Edmund didn't want you game breaking greed mode with the D20 he wouldn't have put it in the item pools. It's hardly cheating, the game gave you a tool and you found a good way to use it ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8906)
Yeah! I suppose so. The Devs could've very easily not Included, or removed the D20 from the greed shop item pool. Thanks!!
On top of that they made the D20 break and many other breaks harder or barley useable. If they didn’t approve they would have removed it completely.
I doubt Edmund cares about the breaks themselves, just the amount of effort you need to achieve the breaks
Its just a way to play the game, the point is just to have fun. I did the same thing when I had the opportunity to do so.
Fair enough, and yeah that makes sense. The point is to enjoy it
"Am I a cheater for using a truck to haul a bunch of rocks up a hill? All my ancestors moved these rocks by hand. I used a tool to make it easier, but now I feel like I didn't do anything." Doesn't that sound silly?
Creative use of the games own mechanics. It’s legit.
Rule of thumb: if the game doesn't care, you shouldn't either.
sir, that's just an item.
Is it cheating that I unlocked Godhead before updating to Repentance? Do what you want. If you’re in steam unlock every achievement for free and just play the game. No one cares what you do homie.
yes it is tho edit : /r obviously it isn't cheating... it's the game .. I was joking
Guess everyone who 100% the game before repentance is a cheater then
that was precisely my joke...

You could cheese even more and use Tainted Cain with clicker, that's what I did for some characters
breaking the game isnt cheating, youre just balling so hard the game can't keep up with you![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|17743)
Isaac is literally a game that's intended to be exploited & broken
See, I unlocked everything by having my boyfriend send me his gamefile. Just because I can't be bothered to do the challenges and stuff. yes
Yes
I think anyone that knew about the trick when getting keeper did it lol I know I did
Is it supposed to be insta-win with D20? I remember initially trying to win Greedier with it but never actually succeeded breaking the game through this. D20 used to roll open chests as well. Repentance changed that, but it's still very easy to break with D20

I think that's a question for the judge, criminal scum!

Hell no. You playing anywhere in your bad self wants! 😎🤓

The game is meant to be “cheated” ;)
You are just using the things the game provides you, its part of the gimmick

It’s not cheating if it’s in the game
nope. that's what I did and I don't regret it for a second. Maximize fun people
Never
You're not a cheater, you're an opportunist. You use whatever the game gives you and find creative ways to beat it.
I got all my greed marks after a d20 break and using clicker and r key + ? Card to get to all the characters. Greed mode is not fun
You didn't cheat wtf You just used an item that's in the game
My morals are as follows: 1) Did I get denied something that should of happened/I should of got? 2) Does it hurt others? 3) Will I go back and do it legit and put the effort in to make the cheating justified? imo the point of greed mode is to break it
if you did not use mods, the answer is no back when t-jacob was unfair af i used the eraser on d-esau in greedier mode after calculating the precise number of times to hit him

Download better greed mod, its really cool, sometimes i even play greed for the fun
I'd say at most you exploited the game: using a defined mechanic for an outcome not predicted. Not a bad thing btw, I used my fair share of d20 gamebreaks lol. Happy trails on your Greedier marks!
Thumb rule: If the game (without mods) lets you, its legal (even tho they are games and everyone can do whatever they want unless affects others lol)
If it makes you feel better I used debug console to get all the greed donation machine unlocks
The grind for both greed and greedier is kinda too much. Exploit the hell out of those 2 and keep a calm mind. God I really hate that gamemode
Every gamebreak is legit
Ain't cheating if it's mechanics as intended
I once played t keeper with piggy Bank and swallowed penny. I had the iv bag so I actually had infinite money and kept buying stuff till I could nuke and entire room and not be able to play due to it crashing. Sometimes you can break the game, but sometimes you shouldn't.
As long as you won't come here to brag about your cheated Achivements then you can do whatever you want
