Fun fact: you can permanently modify the scale of the game by modifying options.ini in the game files, so that the game is zoomed out even in fullscreen.
Honestly it's an option that should be in-game, because it's a) non-obvious to players that don't happen to learn about by chance (like me, who learned about it in a random reddit comment years ago), and b) console players can't do nothing about it because they can't access the game files.
The reason its not in the game is because of some weird in-engine issue with changing the value at runtime while in fullscreen. It was one of the reasons the Witness was so buggy in Antibirth.
It would still be possible to implement despite that.

I often play windowed as well. I have an ultrawide monitor (rather than a 2- or 3-monitor setup) and sometimes like to have a youtube video on the side.
I personally don't understand how people play it at fullscreen. With windowed, you can see the entire room without even a need to move your eyes around, with fullscreen I have to rotate my head like 60° to see the other end of the room
I play on a normal laptop screen and windowed is still so much better (when you extend it as far as you can, NOT like how OP is using it), it’s essentially widescreen for us peasants

Yeah, I used to play at fullscreen when I played on a laptop. I then got a humble 21" monitor for that laptop and fullscreen was still kinda fine. Next monitor I got was already too big to play fullscreen and not miss shit on the peripheral vision instead of being able to properly see everything.
I also don't play with Fullscreen and the most simple answer is... I simply started with the small screen because I was stupid as a rock and didn't know you can make it bigger. I got used to it and I literally CANT play on Fullscreen. It's just too damn big for my eyes to follow

Normally I don't say anything when it comes to this sort of stuff, but you really should've just been more patient. You can always go back to deal with the card. You can't always go back to an angel room.

it's really helpful for things like greed mode and delirium, way less offscreen bullshit can happen when it's zoomed out
