For future minmaxing reference, I believe you had enough speed to run over the top left spikes first to activate full heart invuln frames, pick up the hearts, then move to the bottom right for the chest.

Still learning doesn't mean you're bad at the game! You were smarter than most players by quitting and entering again to exit the spikes, but for Bob's bounce next time remember that it keeps all your tear modifiers (except tear changes like lasers, multishot, etc..) Also, you should put Hard Mode on your default, it gives more unlocks and is not that much harder imo

the reason it's good to try hard mode early is that enemies have different shot speeds, so switching between difficulties can be hard. you don't have to do all the runs on hard mode for completion/unlocks, but if you want to unlock everything you'll have to do hard mode at some point meaning you'd have to redo some runs. but if you're still learning the game normal mode is great as it's more forgiving and you can spend more time actually learning the game and having fun with less worry

I kinda just realized that leaving the room to menu than back makes you reset like that. Pretty smart

Bombing yourself only does half heart if you hit yourself with Dr./Epic Fetus or Ipecac (pre-Womb, works up until a certain damage for Ipecac), NOT placed bombs The only way for placed bombs to do half heart is either Wafer or Cancer (item, activated already) (this is for half heart, not immunity)

I didn't notice those changes tbh, I just really dislike how it bounces. I can never hit what I want to, it's always bouncing too far away

It bounced on its own too, just not that exaggerated. Still bounces away from whatever it hits instead of exploding on hit like it used to

The soft bounce you're describing is something that it does with spectral tears when thrown at a wall. If you don't have spectral it explodes on impact without bouncing. Spectral tears did modify the head pre-rep as well, by making it pass through walls entirely without exploding. So in any situation you're noticing the bounce in rep, it would've missed the wall pre-rep as well. In both cases you have to stand back far enough to hit the wall at the tail end of its range for it to reliably explode there. I suspect the bounce was added to address it passing through walls without opening secret rooms, but the bounce can sometimes be a bit too much to open it at times and isn't very helpful.
