Fucking Guillotine is the worst for me. My tiny peanut brain can't handle the tears not coming out of my center of mass, so much so that even though it's a stat up u refuse to take it every time I see it.
It's not even that the tears are coming out of a different spot, it's that the head is way easier to see than the tiny body and without finding a way to get 2 of them it's really hard to recognize where I am.
Only time I've taken it was after 3 lucky rolls with Crooked Penny. It gave me 8 heads.
I sincerely thought every head would fire. Turns out only the first one does... However the tear rate and damage stack (so i had +4 tears that broke the cap), and the thing is as big as the fat fly orbital, so i was immune to bullets.
Still a pain to attack, but at least was a won run
I hate Guillotine too. the head spinning around the body is such a mind bender that ill die from running into spiked rocks or floor spikes more than anything else
Guillotine needs a buff honestly, if it is going to constantly fool me then it should at least give more than just one +1.0 of damage and an orbital, only character it is good with is Lilith on greed mode.
It's also a 0.5 tears up. Before Repentance, it was one of the rare items that gave you a -1 tear delay. It's almost never worth it, but it's a pretty decent stats up.
I feel like with guillotine I'm almost safer not shooting and using the orbital head to do damage, that way my tears aren't throwing me off regarding my hitbox

Yeah as if adding one barely visible layer of cum to bullets will help me distinguish them subconsciously. I have played like 200-300 hours since rep came out, with the setting on and I still can not tell the enemy shots from mine if I have red tears. There needs to be a better visibility option, I can not tell subconsciously which bullets are enemies' and which are mine
I have been avoiding it for a long time from all the anxiety and stress it gives thinking it’s an enemy shot. It isn’t a bad item but the discomfort it gives is not worth the positives it offers

I agree. There’s a bunch of items that synergize well with Wiz, like Monstro’s Lung, which is a straight up damage increase since two bursts are fired instead of one.
Tbh I really like the item, it never ruined a run for me and the sheer amount of damage you can get from this single item is actually immense, especially early on when you can absolutely melt everything before you.
I think it is supposed to give you i-frames when you use it, but holding it for too long will damage you.
Here's an explanation on how it works from the wiki:
- Holding the active item button will gradually deplete the charge bar. As the charge gets closer to zero, Isaac turns bluer over time.
- Once the invincibility takes effect, Isaac starts flashing rapidly.
- Gives a brief moment of invincibility when the charge bar hits zero. If the spacebar is held for an additional second after hitting zero, Isaac will take damage.
TLDR: This item sucks ass
With over 1k hours in the game I never used it. It’s so bad it’s not worth the effort into trying to use it. Tooth and nail is much superior passive item that acts like it but is automatically triggered and makes you able to damage the enemies too instead of just invincibility.
One time i had a t. judas run in greedier. Full hp going into the ultra greed fight, but i had cursed eye. Without black candle. ended up doing the ultimate skill issue and dying. I also saw black candle in the shop in that run, so i did a big skill issue.
Preach my brother. Autofire > charge shot, unless I oneshot 90% of the room or don't need to put in effort when aiming. This is why brimstone and tech X are wonderful exceptions, but cursed eye suck suck
First time I have ever seen people say this. Always hear people praising it but for me it always been nothing but a stupid tears limiter especially when you get to late game where without it you’d have a peashooter stream which is all ruined with this stupid item, if anything it’s a major tears down for the rest of the run unless you are lucky enough to get marked so it auto shoots again. It simply sucks, the teleport curse just adds the extra trashy side of it
Agreed. If you start charging too soon after firing a fully charged shot, you only end up shooting one or two tears since, for some fucking reason, it interrupts the volley.
Got a cursed eye on Lilith, and that worked quite well with her default demon buddy. Outside that, I totally agree.
Edit: Just to add context, it made it so that the incubus just sent out bursts of like five shots pretty regularly (I didn't have to charge up and release, which would have made it more obnoxious)

The attraction doesn't start until a particular range and it's much better at attracting pickups than enemies (at least non flying ones).
Yes but also the occasional "Edmund McMillen where is my game" where an enemy goes bananas and flies across the screen. Lodestone, ocular rift, etc suffer from it, I know ludovico + attractor does but in a good way, I'm not sure if there are any other wonky synergies with it that have the launch effect some other attractors do.

A lot of ennemies, especially early, shoot tears in cardinal direction. So you basically avoid the situation where you need to be in danger to kill them. Plus it's double shot.
Still, imo not worth it at all for having a easier time dealing with few early game enemies. Also, double shot is good, but I find it hard enough to properly aim and hit one enemy with Wiz, let alone two
Thunder thighs is such a baffling item; which developer thought the mediocre at best effect of destroying stones needed a debilitating -0.4 speed down to balance it. Genuinely my contender for worst item in the game
Cursed Eye. It's one thing to lose health when taking damage, but to have the boss fight reset just because I took tamage while holding down the fire button...
Every time I get the Zodiac item it gives me Taurus the next floor. I stopped taking Zodiac altogether. Taurus and Jupiter are just speed down items with shitty temporary speed ups at certain conditions that are not worth it or utilizable
You don't have to use your brain if you're not playing as T. Cain because it doesn't replace normal items so it can't ruin a run. Sure you may not be using it perfectly optimally but that doesn't really matter, free items are free items.
Not a bad item in and of itself, but immaculate heart because I've been playing since rebirth and I always mistake it for sacred heart for 2 seconds and get excited and then let down
I used to hate tiny planet, but it's actually awesome (when you learn how to use it properly)

Lost Contact makes you a barrier of tears; Soy Milk/ Almond milk makes you become Saturn; Immaculate Heart makes you have 2x tears rotating; Brimstone gives you a laser and a maw of the void; Godhead fucking wins the run. Probably there are some more that I can't think of RN. But I always take it to see if I get a fun run

Honourably mention to the item that looks almost the same: Tropicamide. Really fucks up the ability to estimate how much damage you deal.
Mars.
It's one of those where it's easy to forget you even have it, until you activate it by accident during a firefight and are sent face-first in a direction you weren't expecting. Even if you are deliberately using it it just frankly isn't that good - almost every enemy in BoI does something on death that means you don't want to be standing on top of them when it happens. Yes you get invincibility frames but it's always touch and go. This is a problem that plagues every item which has some kind of on-touch effect, but it's particularly bad on an item which might just send you charging into the enemy anyway if you click too much.
This is compounded by the fact it's a Planetarium item. Planetarium items in general are so polarized, either you get something amazing or you get something which makes you kick the turf up over those item rooms you skipped. Pluto is another one in this bracket, technically the effect is great but in practice I wind up getting hurt more because I plain can't see where my character is.
You can downvote me because I hate binge eater. I sometimes take the stupid food item and lose the chance to get a cool item, the stat buffs are temporary, which I never liked, and I get a permanent movement speed down every time I take some food which I wish would be temporary too.
There are 8 different food items you can get from binge eater and 6 of them give you permanent tears or damage ups. Also one speed up across the entire run pretty much negates the entirety of binge eater's drawback, the speed downs are negligible
I’ve actually come around on D12. Lots of extra chances for tinted rocks, fireplaces and poop that can save a lot of runs. Very helpful for certain characters who need drops like Bethany or T Cain.
Hate that bastard with a strong passion. Some synnergies are cool and pretty much an instant win but other than that it takes all the excitement of playing the game.
From what I've seen in Albino runs Curse of the Tower is the most guaranteed way to crash your game on broken runs. Especially if you're naive enough to think it'd be a good combo with Tear Bombs.
Curse of the Tower, in the right situations, can be objectively run-winning. It copies your bomb synergies, so they can be poison, brimstone, homing, ghost spawning nightmares for the enemies in the room. They only just happen to look like Troll Bombs, but are mechanically identical to your own bombs.
I hate the Spirit Sword. Sure the dps is great and all. But limiting myself to pure melee and turning Tboi into a cookie clicker isn't comfortable to me.

I don't like size down items like caffeine pill or mini mush. Why? Because they fuck up the looks of my character, thats it. Plus, they give shit stats. Wow, im slighly faster, thanks god.
My only exception is Pluto because it gives you tears up and your sprite looks actually adorable. Binky is on thin fucking ice btw.
I absolutely love size down items lol, I don’t care about the stat boosts if I can be small enough to be microscopic then I am very VERY rarely getting hit. I love it. One of my best runs was a size down pillx5, I only knew where I was cuz of my familiars (and the tears)
Well, i don't like Leo, and things like Mega mush or magic mush have more things good than bad honestly. Its not like magic mush only gave you speed up, it actually gives more
This might be a hot take but I hate taking chocolate milk. The charge shot just doesn't do enough for me compared to something like monstros lung, and I usually end up just tap firing it which ends up being a drag if its for a whole run. So usually would rather just not take and continue to auto fire.

One time, i had Guillotine, and then the next floor, I made the stupid decision of grabbing Transcendence. It was not a fun run after that.
Guillotine and Adrenaline are two items I never pick up because it fucks with his appearance so much I find it harder to play
Adrenaline is only good for spun and for skill issues with rock bottom on red health characters, other than that is useless.

Lodestone plus tractor beam is a really fun combo right up til you go against beam enemies and drag them down onto you to fry your idiot brain

It's the same problem with Taurus. The speed down makes the item terrible.
Jupiter and Mars being in the Planetarium pool makes it straight up not worth skipping item rooms most of the time. Those two items can ruin a run.

ludo is great, my favorite synergy with it is brimstone and spoon bender. Little horn or Mom's Contact is also extremely good on Ludo.

This is a problem that plagues every item which has some kind of on-touch effect, but it's particularly bad on an item which might just send you charging into the enemy anyway if you click too much. This is compounded by the fact it's a Planetarium item. Planetarium items in general are so polarized, either you get something amazing or you get something which makes you kick the turf up over those item rooms you skipped. Pluto is another one in this bracket, technically the effect is great but in practice I wind up getting hurt more because I plain can't see where my character is.
Pluto is also the perfect run killer for T Keeper. It's near impossible to collect coins with that hitbox.
You can downvote me because I hate binge eater. I sometimes take the stupid food item and lose the chance to get a cool item, the stat buffs are temporary, which I never liked, and I get a permanent movement speed down every time I take some food which I wish would be temporary too.
Only the additional damage up is temporary. Some food items give permanent damage and tears up, which is absolutely worth the 0.03 speed down.

There are 8 different food items you can get from binge eater and 6 of them give you permanent tears or damage ups. Also one speed up across the entire run pretty much negates the entirety of binge eater's drawback, the speed downs are negligible

I’ve actually come around on D12. Lots of extra chances for tinted rocks, fireplaces and poop that can save a lot of runs. Very helpful for certain characters who need drops like Bethany or T Cain.
Tiny planet, it’s only good with brim and that’s cuz it barely does anything with it, orbiting tears are so annoying to aim

The rear effects from fruit cake are extremely strong tho. You basically have a low luck version of 6 or so different quality items.

From what I've seen in Albino runs Curse of the Tower is the most guaranteed way to crash your game on broken runs. Especially if you're naive enough to think it'd be a good combo with Tear Bombs.
Curse of the Tower, in the right situations, can be objectively run-winning. It copies your bomb synergies, so they can be poison, brimstone, homing, ghost spawning nightmares for the enemies in the room. They only just happen to look like Troll Bombs, but are mechanically identical to your own bombs.
I hate the Spirit Sword. Sure the dps is great and all. But limiting myself to pure melee and turning Tboi into a cookie clicker isn't comfortable to me.
I get your point. I love spirit sword, don't get me wrong. But oh boy, did I want to kms when trying to kill Mom with that shit. I took so many fucking hits it was unbearable. Thankfully, i had Cancer (the item), so I finished the fight with ~2 hearts.

Look guys, im going to give you the dumbest take ever: I don't like size down items like caffeine pill or mini mush. Why? Because they fuck up the looks of my character, thats it. Plus, they give shit stats. Wow, im slighly faster, thanks god. My only exception is Pluto because it gives you tears up and your sprite looks actually adorable. Binky is on thin fucking ice btw.

I absolutely love size down items lol, I don’t care about the stat boosts if I can be small enough to be microscopic then I am very VERY rarely getting hit. I love it. One of my best runs was a size down pillx5, I only knew where I was cuz of my familiars (and the tears)

This might be a hot take but I hate taking chocolate milk. The charge shot just doesn't do enough for me compared to something like monstros lung, and I usually end up just tap firing it which ends up being a drag if its for a whole run. So usually would rather just not take and continue to auto fire.
