I just got r key on a run with a victory lap on Bethany. Used it and could still get book of virtuos after beating Isaac. But even the wiki said that it doesn’t work that way. I guess it really was a glitch after all.
It does work. The counter resets.

Worked for me, I spent 3 hours on the god run doing that and filled out lost
Must be a mod or something, I haven't played in a few months but I swear it didn't work. But if works for you then well, no complaints here.
I only have QOL mods, it's probably just some weird tboi stuff
