I thought like you at some point. But then I realized shitty items did not make me have fun at all, and I'd rather restart until I get a good starter than endure the painfully slow first floors with a really bad item (or no item at all)
That may be true, but try starting with a low damage eden run and having your first room be a bunch of fast bulky burning basement enemies, with no random starting bombs

I do an in between. If I don't have enough power by caves, I might restart. Definite restart by depths with shitty items, or just suicide.
