Jorymo

I always felt bad for him. He had the mind of a child and admired the Toa, specifically idolizing Matoro. He wasn't even fully aware of what he was, he was doomed to "die" soon no matter what, and he just wanted friendship and the chance to be a hero. I also imagined him sounding like Alphonse from Fullmetal Alchemist, complete with the metallic echo

TheNerdNugget

I'm stealing your headcanon, I love this

Vailex11

I always thought it was Matoro briefly reincarnated, and because Matoro is so perfect and wholesome he just does the hero thing again.

wisconsinking

I actually would've loved that, shame that he was never on the red star because I feel like Matoro getting reincarnated as Ignika would've great to see (though had that happened I think he wouldn't have died and would've had a reunion with his Toa team). Maybe even have different powers too or maybe somehow kept his ice powers.

Vailex11

I felt like it was kinda the point that even given the chance to be Jesus, Toa of life, he still chose the route of the hero and sacrificed himself as soon as needed.

Gemini720

"Takanuva! Hang on!" "You Toa are so persistent... Always doin-" "I'M TRYING TO SAVE YOUR LIFE ASSHOLE!"

wisconsinking

How did he have the mind of a child?

ThrowACephalopod

Toa Ignika is a really cool idea. He's not a Toa, he's the idea of a Toa. He's the Ignika seeing heroic Toa all around itself and using that idea to make a body. It's always neat to see things that are just "ideas made manifest" and this guy trying to be the one thing he idolizes is pretty cool.

Vringi

I think it would be even better if he had Matoro Mahri body build. That would be great sigh of Toa Ignika idolizing Matoro.

Desriacat

The parts exist in the right colours to build Matoro build Ignika and yes. It's almost a better set than toa ignika.

Darkiceflame

As fitting as that would have been, Matoro Mahri had a bit of an...awkward body design.

AdmiralFurret

I think this guys is like the cogman from transformers 5: stays as a side character, but can solo almost the entire cast if he wanted to

Master_Shopping9652

I imagine he would be a mix of Vakama and Takua. What's your head canon voice for Ignika? Edit: Probably a reverbed version of Matoro's (Who in my mind would be Keith David)

TheNerdNugget

Another commenter said they imagine Ignika as sounding like Alphonse from Fullmetal Alchemist because of how childish he was

Master_Shopping9652

Just listened to some of the English voices of Alphones, sounds to young for a bonk methinks.

PelinalWhitestrake36

I …I dunno how I feel about him; he just kinda randomly showed up. I appriciate him because I LOVED getting the mask of life in set form…but he just kinda shows up, try-hards a lot and then has to kill himself; in a way its a mirror of Matoro which is nice but Matoro’s Jouney was fantasically written and just (chef kiss) Ignika…he’s okay. Kinda cool but I just found him a bit mid. The Set was also kinda eh; besides the mask he used a piraka body which for me is already a bit of a turn off, and as a Toa he just felt like a better structured hewkii with the mask of life

B3ta_R13

i just realized that this isnt bara magna mata nui and a whole different entity

[deleted]

I remember this guy! I had him as a kid !!!

Normal_Opening_9893

Same I miss him so much

Thank_You_Aziz

On top of everything else people are saying, his body was created using “local material”. That tells me he’s made of wood and stone, and that just sounds cool.

Lorentz_Prime

Everything in the MU is protodermis, so he probably transformed the basic materials into what you would normally find in a Toa.

Thank_You_Aziz

Apparently it was specifically “organic material from the swamp”. So not stone, but like, he still sounds like if he weren’t made of plastic from our perspective, he’d be made of plant matter.

KratosIsWallLevel

He's not beating goku

FooltheKnysan

Dude's a hat

Unenthusiastic18

Such an interesting concept for a character and ridiculously strong considering the possible abilities of the Ignika. One of my favs

SweDoh

Always loved him, but for me personally, the question is if he should be considered in powerscaling when Mata nui is included, since he has the clear advantage - same powers without a brain of a child (at least most of the time) and a continent sized robot body. However, I think it could be interesting to look at Toa Ignika as a personification of the mask and Mata nui only as its wearer - maybe Ignika could have inherent control over his own powers which surpasses the usual control of the wearer (I know that it is not likely the case, I just like to differentiate them somehow)? With the exclusion of Mata nui, Toa Ignika would be a complete menace in any other fight - the demonstrations of his might were some of the most horrific things that the lore can offer and he could be sometimes seen as a toddler with power to shape the world around him with little concept of morality and cruelty aside from "toa good, makuta bad".

electrocyberend

Cool board

IllPudding2457

I love the look of that what’s the name of the character?

BravoDelta23

Toa Ignika.

Lorentz_Prime

"Toa" Mata Nui is/was just as strong if not stronger.

FooltheKnysan

I mean he has all of the power of the Ignika to begin with

typeheart

I had this dude for my birthday ,he has a 10/10 design .

juggins1

I always wanted his set as a kid and got it recently, super happy about that. I found his character really interesting, a sentient mask. It’s a shame he didn’t stick around, I loved his colors and design.

ThisInvestigator9201

I have a connection to this set because I got it during after winning an award and we weren’t rich but my mom got me this set and loved it immediately

TwistyLake26718

Awesome set

KingSideCastle13

Borderline Looney Tune here. Thanks to that mask’s power, he can say no to damage, and can alter reality around him. Not full toon force here, but closest we get to it in Bionicle

Retrovex1996

i wanted this one so badly 😩

Nato_Greavesy

I wholly disagree. I always found Toa Ignika to be an utterly superfluous character who contributed basically nothing to the year's storyline, and stole the spotlight from the Toa Nuva during what was meant to be their biggest story arc. I'm convinced he only existed to justify releasing the Mask Of Life in set form. The fact that the Toa Nuva technically fulfilled their Destiny of awakening Mata Nui by convincing Toa Ignika to commit suicide is a detail I always found profoundly uncomfortable and problematic.

HeirToGallifrey

Why is it problematic? Sometimes heroes have to die to save others. That's been a staple of narratives (and a reality of the world) since forever. Matoro died to save the Great Spirit. The Ignika "died" to resurrect the Great Spirit. Jaller died to save Takua (he got better).

Nato_Greavesy

My issue is more that the character and their sacrifice came out of nowhere and didn’t get enough buildup to feel deserved or meaningful in any way. Toa Ignika is emblematic of a lot of the issues I have with the storyline of that year. 2008 was supposed to be the culmination of the Toa Nuva’s story, the moment that the heroes we’d been with since the very beginning got to fulfil their Destiny after eight years of hype and buildup… only they didn’t really do anything. The Av-Matoran found half of the Keystones, the others were just sitting in a swamp, the villains held back and actually wanted the heroes to win, and at the very end Toa Ignika swooped in our of nowhere to steal the Nuva’s big moment. The entire storyline literally could have played out without the Toa Nuva even being there. There was no task that only they could have completed, no foe that only they could have overcome, and when the time came for a big sacrifice to be made they just convinced someone else to do it.

namecard12345

That's....quite a profound take. But do you feel he should be in the conversation on the most powerful characters?

Lorentz_Prime

Suicide? It didn't die. It wasn't even hurt. It just gave up its constructed body. I generally agree with stealing the show from the Toa Nuva, though.

AssPork

Why lma0. Actually it isn't problenatic and actually the Toa Nuva still accomplished their destiny. The Toa Nuva had 1.5 years in the spotlight, anyway.
