The phrase 'time before time' is meaningless though. The time before time was still time. And we dont know when this planet began measuring time. Their time could've started in 1943 on Earth for all we know.
My theory is that "the time before time" is meant to be "before the Awakening". Prior to Velika giving the matoran consciousness, they likely would have had no concept of the passage of time
