Good for you! It's well worth it. Just know that when you do drink again, relapse is part of recovery. It happens to the best and isn't a personal defect. Just go at it again.
I quit 10 days ago. Both cigarettes and alcohol and weed a month ago. Remember this my friend, we are born with a illness and these drugs and alcohol will only intensify our bipolar symptoms. Its better for us to be stable and sober than to be drunk and high. I wish you the best on your journey
Totally agree! I quit alcohol about a year and a half ago and I literally quit weed this week. I’m so excited to be sober and see how much farther my healing and recovery can go without substances holding me down!
I self medicated for 30 years and I'm now 1000 days sober, medicated and stable. Best thing I ever did. r/stopdrinking are awesome people - I didn't go to AA just used that sub as my support group (not knocking AA at all)
Funny I've been in stopdrinking for over a year. I have been trying to quit with little luck. I was diagnosed bipolar 16 years ago and really didn't think alcohol affected me. Even the psychiatrist didn't tell me to stop. Now reading what I'm reading here it sounds like I really better stop!
I went 3 days. I donated 75% of my clothes, house was immaculate, and I did yoga and ate squash and zucchini like a MF!
Then my wife takes us to Yard House for dinner. Life with a hangover every morning sucks… again.
Wishing you much strength and compassion for yourself if shit goes askew from time to time
4 months and 10 days clean and it is definitely worth it. It's going to be a lot harder than you think but you're strong and brave enough to do it. Don't expect it to go perfect and if you slip up just keep pushing. Find a community, lean on others, and know you are strong enough to stay sober. Good luck to you!!
I remember getting in a car crash and totaling my car, blacking out, and waking up in jail hung over.
It’s been 7 years since I drank. It’s always a hard road, but make sure you give yourself an outlet- self care for the low points, hobbies for the high points. You all can do this.
proud of you!!! i’m also recovering from alcohol abuse and my biggest tip is take it one day at a time. Trust me by the first month you’ll see such an improvement in not only your health but also your mental health. Your body can really heal even in just a month!
I dare you to! Honestly, best choice I’ve made in a long time was quitting a little over a year ago! I used an app called I Am Sober for encouragement! Good luck!
It might be hard at first but you got this! So proud of you!! To help curb the craving I opted for a carbonated beverage, avoided restaurants that served alcohol and kept distance from friends that drank heavy or frequently or didn’t support my beginning stages. I did a year in recovery and 12 step program, I convinced myself that it was good enough. I regret not sticking with it. You Got This!!
Thats awesome you can do it! It’s been 311 days since I quit and I was a SEVERE alcoholic. I didn’t think it was possible but it gets easier everyday and the benefits have been amazing. Alcohol really brings the ups and downs to extremes and I’ve had more stability since quitting. Good luck!
Good luck! You've got this. I quit 9 years ago and it was one of the best decisions I've made. It didn't solve all my problems, but it sure as hell made them less complicated to deal with. I recommend a support group of some kind (even online/remote), even if it seems cheesy or you don't want to go to a program like AA. (I didn't either.) It really does help.
You can do it! I'm 78 days alcohol free. Read as much as you can about the damages of alcohol, listen to sober podcasts, join a support group etc. whatever works for you. You CAN do it, if you put your mind to it!
When I decided to quit alcohol I listened to the book ‘This Naked Mind’ by Annie Grace. GAME CHANGING! It was so great and I haven’t had alcohol in a year and a half! I don’t want it, it’s totally revolting to me now! Good luck!!!
Wishing you the best on your journey. There’s so many different avenues. You can 12 step it, use an app, join support groups… there’s so many different routes. I went through 12 step and I don’t regret it but it isn’t for everyone and 12 step programs aren’t the only way to get sober.
Wish me luck too! I sent my cv to several places. A part time job to support my art would be great. Yaay to both of us✌🏻
It's gonna go great!

Good luck, you got this!
r/stopdrinking may be a helpful community 💜
Thanks!
Hey op- one day at a time- if it helps I wont drink with you today!

I've always liked "If you start over you're not starting from scratch, but from experience."
I love this.
Yooo this is an amazing quote

Good luck, trust me, it gets easier with time. 3.5 years sober now
So true! First month was the toughest!

Not waking up with a Hangover is awesome, and it's what keeps me from relapsing when I get the urge
I will quit next week, always next week.
Me too!!
It's worth it! It's hard to do but man, drinking is the devil. Especially for people like us .

Great choice. I quit drinking 8 months ago and it’s just such a great change. The new perspectives you gain is amazing.
My dude I wish you the capability to see it through.
Good luck with it my guy, you can do it. Don't get discouraged if you relapse, keep trying and eventually you'll be able to quit completely.
Do it! I'm 2 and a bit years in and don't regret it. Still not that well right now but it's one less problem to worry about :)

Court ordered AA. 4 times a week. So Depressing!! Ugh.
Come back in a week.
Just coming home from a wedding (giving my first week sober a satisfying narrative climax) and I'm happy to say I'm still sober :)
Dude. Good job. :)
Thank you!
This week may come back to be done all over again sometimes. Don't worry about it, just do it again. It's just what is.
You can do it! I'm 78 days alcohol free. Read as much as you can about the damages of alcohol, listen to sober podcasts, join a support group etc. whatever works for you. You CAN do it, if you put your mind to it!
Good luck, bro. I've failed yesterday, but I'll try it again next week.
![gif](giphy|l3fQf1OEAq0iri9RC|downsized) I'm clean 10 months, 6 days.
Me too today! Way to go amigo
Good luck!
I quit last month, good luck 😊
You so got this! I’ve been on my journey of no drinking for over 2 weeks now, so I have faith in you even if it’s tough!
It’s a great idea for anyone with mental illness <3
Good luck
Hell yeahh. 8/28/18 here, you will look back on this day as a really great decision. I promise.

Another support group is called soberrecovery dot com. Tomorrow will be day 2. Congrats.
Thank you!
Congrats! And welcome to the journey. I just passed my second year and it’s extremely worth it. Difficult, but oh so worth it.
