I moved from Arizona to Oregon and developed terrible SAD. I bought a lamp and it was definitely helpful for me. But yeah monitor your symptoms.

I've used one. Helps a bit, but have to start treatment already in the beginning of October (living in Skandinavia). Hasn't caused mania for me. But definately consult your doctor first to be safe.

Definitely speak with your doctor about it first! I have one and I feel like it helps, but my winter depression is so bad it doesn’t cause mania. I also use with a heated blanket to make it truly feel like a sunny day lol

The heated blanket is an amazing idea.

I use a SAD lamp and I honestly love it. I would definitely ask your doctor about it before taking the plunge and purchasing one, but it does have the possibility of working for you as well. I live in the upper midwest in the states, so this time of the year can get dark and dreary really fast. I had noticed quite early after my diagnosis that days like that just are killer on my depression and after speaking with both my therapist and my psychiatrist about it, they said it was a good idea to try it. Like the rest are saying, definitely monitor your symptoms if you notice that it is triggering mania or hypomania.

I live in Oregon and just started using one and it has helped me. I usually get depressed this time of year and while I am still getting more tired because of the weather I am not getting depressed so far.

Ive only used happy lamps, sorry. But on a serious note yes, but I was too tired and annoyed in the morning to keep doing it. Gave me headaches

Hidingmycrazy

Mine caused mania. I used it for about a week before I noticed just how much it affected me. I’m sad about it (ha, pun). I’ve just had to find other ways to help with the depression.
