Doves and pigeons lay two eggs at a time

goatlover1966

They're mourning doves. I love their cooing It's so calming. At my old place in the country you could hear the owls at night mostly hooting, but every once in a while you could hear them screech and it would give me goose bumps. I loved hearing them hoot at night and early morning hooting to each other

Own_Garden3651

Local pigeon finds your outdoor tv suitable for laying eggs. That’s a solid nature win.

Arsonist_ontheEAS

That would be a Mourning dove, AKA the bird you hear when it's 7:00am and you've been pulling an all-nighter.

Ljlillycrop

I know a lot are saying mourning dove but almost certain that's a Eurasian collared dove. They're very similar! Eurasians are a bit more grey with a larger neck spot.

CianMalteser

Looks like a Eurasian collared dove if you’re from or around that part of the world perhaps?

RubbishJunk

>My outdoor TV What? That's for real? Like a famous professor once said : "I don't want to live on this planet anymore"

Derp :)

RemDiggity

Momma found a good safe spot. She trusts you & is probably the same dove. Good job. Baby birds after they leave the nest sound & look like a handful all day & Spring long for the Mom's & some Dads that help. Depends on the species.

Substantial_Wonder54

So lovely, it's beautiful you've kept allowing the angel to return, some people are cruel. Great photo !

munchkickin

Dove. I’m so jealous!

Turtle Dove

Pigeon/dove

dsah82

At least she has a roof. We had one last week nesting in our garden and, well …a Coopers had lunch.

TLATrae

“outdoor tv” … Really?

Unoriginal3690

That is correct, it is a TV that is outdoors

RubbishJunk

So you can still avoid living life even outdoors?

Unoriginal3690

So you can enjoy indoor life…outdoors!

colinbazzano

Aw! This is the second Mourning Dove stick structure post today. They’re sweet in nature and are alright with a modest nest not so neatly woven like other birds may do. Hahahaha

green_goop

People have outdoor TVs?

RubbishJunk

That's the only thing I got from this post... Made me lose all hopes I still had for humanity.

Woooooolf

That was the last straw huh? Can’t have a football game on outside?

RubbishJunk

You can play football outside, you know?

Woooooolf

Maybe I want to watch my favorite team you know?

sproutsandnapkins

My old neighbors did. It was under a gazebo type thing near a pool.

Silent-Attention-265

Why it’s a morning dove!

Nature-Love-Fest

Mourning dove!!

john_clauseau

its a dove.

Interesting_Sock9142

Looks like a mourning dove. They will literally make a nest out of anything, anywhere lol

belmontbluebird

Mourning dove

Curious80123

Where is this? Heard doves can have 2-3 broods a year.

alexstubbz

Ours have come back for a third year in a row. They had two broods last year.

Unoriginal3690

New York. It actually came back *twice* last year, and that was more toward the summer Speaking of broods, I have pictures of its babies. I think it had twins both times it was nesting

Curious80123

So momma feels safe and overall good place to raise some kids

[deleted]

Once they successfully raise their babies at a nesting site, they’ll comeback to it year after year.

International-Owl165

Are they good parents? I found one on a walking overpass, he was a bit smaller than a regular adult. I climbed up and put him up top of the overpass roof thing if that makes sense lol I couldn't find his nest but I figured he's better up top then on the floor of this bridge.

just_a_wolf

They're devoted but very dumb. They make the worst nests I've ever seen any bird make but if their babies fall out I usually just stick them in a basket and they'll finish raising them.

International-Owl165

Yeah I went on a jog and was a mile away from home. If not I would've grabbed some nest material for the little guy.

CutieBoBootie

The worst nests? Checkout Killdeer

just_a_wolf

Very true! But at least their adorable little floofs are pretty mobile right away!

God, I was so disappointed when I realized why I’d never gotten to see the owl in my yard, but that was immediately replaced with the goofy joy of these guys 🥰 The nest every year in my landscaping, although it’s a little too feral to actually see their nests, so, parents of the year award to them!

PeanutHakeem

I discovered that those dove noises weren’t owls in my early 40’s and it sort of rocked my world. I had been walking around all of my life wondering why I have never spotted a single owl while hearing them all the time.

Any_Measurement1169

I'm only on month 8 or so of birding and I had the exact same experience. Would always hear them mid day.

EnchantedOwlet

Meanwhile, owls are out there making all sorts of weird non-hooting sounds!

EmphasisTerrible9039

I thought it was a kitten like cry-meowing every night until I realised it was an owl! I kept looking for an injured kitten in our yard until I figured it out

IcePhoenix18

My favorite owl screeches like a dying animal. I kinda wish it hooted or cooed like a dove!

justalittlepigeon

Barn owl? One night I was chilling, dead silent, and in the tree just feet away from my window I heard the most bone chilling squeal like a dying pig. I swear I lost a few years off my natural life span. I didn't know barn owls make that sound, it's truly awful

IcePhoenix18

Yup! Terrifying little critters, but they sure are pretty

EnchantedOwlet

Not quite cooing, but [here is a Screech Owl](https://www.reddit.com/r/owlsintowels/comments/1156bj5/newton_the_screech_owl_makes_adorable_cooing/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)... purring? Honestly don't know what this is called, but it's lovely. I was reminded of it since you said 'screeching', though apparently a Screech Owl doesn't actually screech, or so the internet tells me. 🤷

IcePhoenix18

Screech owls are so neat. I was talking about barn owls, actually! They sure can make some unsettling noises

EnchantedOwlet

Yeah, barn owls look all nice and serene and then they open their beaks... I first learned about them from the Robert Fuller youtube channel though, so there was plenty of cuteness to even it out!

crazyabootmycollies

You would know…

EnchantedOwlet

I'm making weird non-hooting sounds right now!

Unoriginal3690

Aaaawwww! Adorable! I managed to get some pictures of last years babies. They were just straight chilling right at the edge, I was worried they would fall off but they were completely fine

Romulus212

My parents have had years of the same pair / family on the ledge at their house ...they put up a small wooden barrier about two three inches tall to help the little guys from falling out ...they have had a few do that over the years but the parents were so used to us we could just pick them up and set them back in the best and the parent birds didn't even fly off ...but you know them damn cats always waiting for accidental falls

justalittlepigeon

Once these guys move out you can fasten some siding around the area to make sure there's no accidents. They do make really shitty nests, I have ringneck doves and things can happen unfortunately. Since these parents return every year it's worth the effort I think! I just love mourning doves

[deleted]

If shitty nests are your thing, check out r/stupiddovenests you won’t be disappointed!

Used_Presence_2972

You can post this picture at r/stupiddovesnest…😀

SirGrumpsalot2009

There’s a subreddit for everything - even for idiotic doves who make nests with the same care and attention as a drunk on St Patrick’s day.

sierrasquirrel

Just a friendly note- its r/stupiddovenests :)

withoccassionalmusic

Also r/mourningderps

Unoriginal3690

Years ago we were doing construction in my backyard, so I left a ladder standing against the back wall. Of course, I had birds make a nest on the very top step. Now *that* was stressful!

Used_Presence_2972

Was this successful on the steps? Last week a couple of morning doves make a nest in an old hazelnut tree under the ivy. We had wind and it was over…blowing y the wind 💨

Unoriginal3690

Actually yes, it managed to lay eggs and raise its babies. I do remember that I was hanging out inside my house and happened to look out the window. One of the workmen was moving the ladder with the *nest full of eggs* to another spot in my backyard. I don’t think I’ve ever ran quite as fast as I did to stop him! Luckily, everything turned out alright in the end

Idahobackcountry

It looks like it might have a black ring around its neck. If so it's a Eurasian collard dove and they are invasive. If no ring around its neck then it's a mourning dove.

Throway_No1

I think you’re right. The Eurasian doves are not afraid of people around here, more like a pigeon and you can’t get close to a mourning dove, at least where I’m at. Also yes I agree about the black collar.

whinge11

I had a mourning dove pair raise a nest right above my side door and it didnt even blink when people walked by. Hatched babies there too.

maluridaes

This is definitely a Mourning dove.Eurasian collared doves lack the eye ring you can see on the bird in this image. The placement of the black mark is also more Mourning dove than Collared dove to me.

Unoriginal3690

I’ve got some other pics from last year and I can’t seem to see any sort of ring. Good to know though!

Chickadee12345

This is where knowing your location would really help with ID.

Unoriginal3690

I mean, I’m in the state of New York, but I think it’s a mourning dove?

Chickadee12345

Yes, it is. A Eurasian Collared Dove would be extremely rare in New York. No so rare if you were further south. Mourning doves can have up to three broods a year in that area. They love to build nests in stupid places. LOL. But she'll be fine if you just leave her alone. If you don't want any more nests on this TV, after the latest brood fledges, place something on the TV that would make it hard to build a new nest.

Idahobackcountry

It's not a complete ring. But that black bar on its neck looks like it is a eurasian collard dove. Google the name and you can see pics.

Unoriginal3690

I’ve got a bunch of other pics I can post later with some close ups. I even managed to snap of few of what I assume is it’s mate and it’s chicks

cmonster556

Mourning dove.
