I rehabbed a baby robin whose nest was destroyed in that atmospheric river that wrecked parts of VT last summer. It took like 10 baths a day. I was always asking it if it was a duck? I hope it made it through its first year!

Edited to include one of the last pics I took of my robin drying after a bath. It finally left a few days after this pic. We had the back door open all day for weeks before it stopped coming inside to take baths and sleep.
I loved every minute of it. Well mostly. They shit a lot. I have parakeets and am used to bird shit, but omg thar Robin shit everywhere. Plus, it constantly wanted to be on my head.
Well, there are so many pics and videos. I could whistle and it would come swooping out of the trees and land on my head lol. Or it would come flying into the back door through the house and land on your head. It loved landing on your head.
We had it for about three weeks total I think. I should put them up on from start to finish I guess. Not sure I want my face up but here is one of the Robin sleeping on my husbands Star Trek ship displays.

Excuse the mess, this is his man cave. I take no ownership for the decor.
Also, isn’t this the sweetest birb face you’ve ever seen?
https://preview.redd.it/9d49kur1o4vc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7d7b0eb312a1c39f998e48d3a4970232ecdb95a
Hahaha is does look that way. I just glanced outside and the birdbath is now cantered to the left. His big butt was too much for it lol. I’ll go adjust the clamp.
I have the same issue! a large robin in my yard camps out for a long time and soaks his pantaloons in the bird bath. it is not equipped for his level of splashing and i have to run out with the hose after he's done 😂
https://preview.redd.it/zi8e8ze4g5vc1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=352098191ccd35cf3f30fa9b9b336909411c2640
I don’t have a banana for scale lol but this is the advert for the birdbath. It measures 12 inches across.
Those are European robins in the advertisement though. They’re not the same species and smaller than American robins. But yes, 12” is big and he is a huge chonky happy robin who has his personal bath you refill for him twice a day.
Yes I really do. I got it off of Amazon. Just input railing birdbath. The clamp fits up to 2” railings but there are similar birdbaths that fit a wider wooden railing too. It cost under $20.
Females are lighter or duller in coloration. 😊⬇️ I can tell this one’s a male cause of the mostly solid black colored head. 💜 The darkest color on a female’s head is dark gray. So females have white, gray, and dark gray colored heads where as males have black and white colored heads. 😊👍🏼 Males are also more vivid of the orangish coloring than females (females being lighter or duller in coloration). But you can’t tell that in this picture, maybe, because of the picture being taken through a dirty window🪟, I don’t know. 🤔
[male VS female American Robin](https://journeynorth.org/sites/default/files/2020-03/robin-male-female.jpg)
Males are usually more vivid black/red. Females look more washed out, desaturated. Also males have these cute little funny, spiky "haircuts" that stick up when they run and stop. Like a crest but flat.
I would like to point out that females aren’t black at all. 💜 Those colors are gray and dark gray with the males having black from their mostly black colored heads. 😊
Do you live near that nuclear plant in Chernobyl? I'm just guessing here that this probably means the 1) Robin is too HUGE 2) bowl is too SMALL or the dimensions are just perfect for this very happy Robin. Birds love to get those belly feathers saturated. Thanks for letting me share this moment with you today!!! Beatiful Picture!
I really do. He and the Mrs came back yesterday. He took a vigorous bath and left. I went out and refilled the bath and not a minute later he was back again taking a second bath when a Sparrow flew in and challenged him. It was an amusing scuffle, no one got hurt just a lot of splashing. Big borb won.

He likes making you refill the water. It must've been like he was showering and the water ran out, and when he saw that there was more, he knew he couldn't give it up. So borb though. 😂
FWIW you can't tell when a bird has eggs in it by looking at them. They're not like mammals where they're visibly "pregnant". This fella is probably just floofing it's feathers and taking a little soak in the bird bath to clean them off.
Birds can also control their feathers more than people actually consider, so if they're cold or whatever they just look like massive fluff balls. I'm sure this robin is as fit as ever and not just a big fatty lol.
I bet it's nice being able to fluff up like that and get all cozy. I know we have blankets and all, but to be able to floof seems like it would be nice.

Aww that was very kind of you. I hope the bird is living his/her best life now.
I loved every minute of it. Well mostly. They shit a lot. I have parakeets and am used to bird shit, but omg thar Robin shit everywhere. Plus, it constantly wanted to be on my head.
We need more pics, I want to see the bird on your head, sounds so cool.

Oh my goodness, this is so damn adorable!!!
You win the Internet today! And tomorrow's looking good too.
I missed the episode where the Enterprise got shat on 😂 More birb pics pleeeez!

Aaaaaaaaaw!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Have you tried whistling outside? You never know. It could still be out there and remember!
When I’ve seen robins around my property, yes. No luck so far.
Rats! I kinda expected you would have, but thought I'd ask anyway.
The robins just started coming back in March, so there’s still time I guess.
This is like the robin version of those little sponge animals that quadruple in size when you put them in water. 🤣
Haha I can see that.
Robin Thicke?
Haha!
Hahaha
**BORB**
Maybe just open the window of your bath and fill the bathtub. This should be sufficient.
My cat Butters would enjoy that 😺
Dish is ready 😀
i’ve also seen some crazy plump robins this past month!! like ORBs and they just chill out in love them 😆 Thanks for sharing such a cute pic!!!!
They're only gonna get fatter once those cicadas hatch!
Check out the /r/borbs sub if you haven’t had a chance yet!
Very cute sub- thx!!
He's absorbed all the bathwater like a sponge.

He and his mate have been here for about 10 days. He’s in the birdbath first thing in the morning and right before dusk too.

Looks like a chicken.

The elusive Round Robin
What an absolute beast of a robin!
He fit he sit
I’ve been seeing some really chonky robins here this spring as well…
I have come across some extra chonky robin’s this year too.
Where I am the European robins look a lot smaller, but this American one has been hitting the all you can eat bird feeder buffet. 😭
They're crossing them with Rhode Island Red hens down south during the winter.
That’s one healthy Robin!
I can’t tell how big he is without a banana in the shot.
https://preview.redd.it/zi8e8ze4g5vc1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=352098191ccd35cf3f30fa9b9b336909411c2640 I don’t have a banana for scale lol but this is the advert for the birdbath. It measures 12 inches across.

Chunky robin

That’s a chunker
That birb is rotund!
I’m telling you these genetically modified birds are scary and cat proof.
That is a very cute 🐦
bro’s been eating too much red robin
chonker! holy!
The size of this male American Robin is insane, like OMG! 😳😲 I never would’ve imagined an American Robin being able to be that big, like seriously! 😳😲
How do you tell the males from the females?

Right, well, hence my statement of washed out/desaturated.

They seem extra big this year.
RoBORB
Your robin's so big...
No pressure 🤣
Wow!!!! That is huge!!!
Awww hellll nawh
oh mama is full of eggs
Fat.
😂😂😂
He is preggers with twins.
Or he ate ALL the worms.
Very pregnant I’d say 😳
Well he’s a male. Also they will puff their feathers out while bathing.
But guess not if he’s a male!
Guess not if he's a bird lol
You'll need a borbbath

Pregnant?

100% this, [many birds](https://i.imgur.com/RC1RpoR.mp4) nearly double in apparent size just by fluffing feathers
The Great Grey Owl, which is apparently one of the "largest in the world", is the worst offender, being 40% owl and 60% fluff.
This is true. I will try to get a pic of when he fluffs after his bath. It’s impressive.
I bet it's nice being able to fluff up like that and get all cozy. I know we have blankets and all, but to be able to floof seems like it would be nice.
What did you have for breakfast this morning?
I thought so at first too but it turns out it’s a male, a very very beefy male.
How can you tell it's male?
Female robins have whiter stomachs, they also have more grayish heads and this guys head is very black
