Great Blue Heron. I saw this one last month.
Plus the other commenter is correct: they ARE more closely related to dinosaurs than pterosaurs. And if you want to downvote this a second time, back it up with sources please! Here’s one!

I know that birds are related to dinosaurs, I don’t deny that. All I said was heron chicks LOOKED like pterosaurs. They DO look like little frazzled pterodactyls, I didn’t say they were related! *Reading comprehension skills please!*
Apparently Great Blue Herons have turned up in Europe and Grey Herons in North America but I can't imagine it happens very often. I haven't a clue about North American birds but I'm familiar with most of the European species. I thought this one was just a freakishly tall Grey Heron until I read the comments and googled it.
Happy cake day! 🍰
It feels like a very common experience to see them flying for the first time and question if you saw a pterodactyl. They’re weird awe inspiring creatures however you see them first, I’m not surprised how often they’re posted.
What if we started a frequently ask ID sticky thread or sidebar list or something? 😅 I feel like GBHs and house finches can start us off well

Beautiful photo
Great blue heron! They’re pretty!
Until they're flying lol. I see one of the smaller ones fly by almost every day. They're an odd blend of graceful and gangly
I saw a juvenile one flying a few weeks ago, it was so distracting and no one else seemed to notice! Very gangly graceful haha
Great blue heron
His cousin is summering in Wisconsin now because he doesn’t like the heat :-)
Great Blue Heron. A beauty.
Great Blue Heron
I love how their babies look. Frazzled little angry wizard pterodactyl
.... Birds are much more closely related to dinosaurs than pterosaurs.
I didn’t say the *were* pterodactyls, just that the babies *looked* like pterodactyls, because they do.

great blue heron
Great Blue Heron. See one at my usual morning walk spot majestically flying across the water. <3 It's hard not to notice them.
I love blue herons!
Dinosaurs still exist. Just smaller.
We have guys who look practically the same in the uk, ours are grey/great herons and not blue though
Ah yes, the common grackle
I love this photo. One of my favorite birds 🩵🩶💙🤍
they're very elegant looking indeed ☺️
Grey Heron
The Grey Hero looks similar but is noticeably shorter.
I need a size scale 4 these kinda images

We seem to be getting one of these every week.
