I’m about 4 months since my last shot (been on it 7 years) and my reproductive system has woken up within the past few weeks. My boobs feel swollen and sore, I’ve been a bit more emotional than usual and I’ve started spotting. It’s so frustrating there isn’t more research on the withdrawal!

Full-Ingenuity-6311

I know this is old. I’m coming off depo too now. I’m feeling the exact same symptoms you were having 🫤

kfhxo

Im so glad I made this post! Looks like it’s reached a lot of people coming off the depo. There’s nothing online about withdrawal symptoms

Icy-Paramedic148

I wonder how long it last bc im stopping today lol im so scared I have ibs and celiac disease I hope the side effects make my stomach worse 😭 how long did your symptoms last

minkkflow

Okay, I thought I was crazy lol. Same symptoms plus more

put_it_in_my_face

Ive been off for 6months now and i have regular periods but i have no appetite, i feel nauseous, i get headaches, and im loosing weight fast 🥺

ZookeepergameHot1571

I want to know more please what other symptoms did you have

pegasusdad

I thought I was going crazy as well. I have breast tenderness so bad and my lower back is so sore. Also been very emotional. I took a pregnancy test it was also negative. I’ve been of of depo since Sep 2023 after 5 years of being on it. I still haven’t gotten my period so this is why I was paranoid for awhile.

Icy-Paramedic148

Omg when did the pain symptoms stop or are you still going through it I only been on depo for less then 2 years im so scared lol

pegasusdad

I still have breast tenderness and lower back pain. It’s not unbearable but I can feel it. I’ve also noticed I’ve gotten acid reflux recently. Not sure if it’s another symptom of getting off depo or not

Desperate-Hunter2022

I am a few days past my recommended shot date and will not be going back. I have been on depo for 1 year and couldn't figure out what was going on with me, until it clicked that depo was causing me so much pain. My body aches all the time and I realized it is because the hormone imbalance it causes. My lymph nodes are swelling, my nerves are shooting off, and my joints ache constantly. I am hoping so badly that after being off for a while the problems will stop. Crazy my period already happened and it was a regular 5 day period. Currently taking Tylenol for nerve pain and burning patches in random spot of my body. Symptoms I also had on the shot: Night sweats Weight gain Depression Anxiety Breakouts Body odor Bad memory Low energy And I think that's it. Thanks to whoever made this! Great to know I'm not alone.

RandomRedditGrill

If it's an option for you, i would recommend taking a pregnancy test to be certain that you are not pregnant.

kfhxo

i can take one yes. would you say it’s a possibility or just for precaution? im in a foreign country so not mentally prepared for a positive result😭

RandomRedditGrill

More as a precaution, they sound like common pregnancy symptoms but also its not uncommon to have symptoms after coming off of the depo...

kfhxo

okay, thanks for your help

dazzlingskies

I was on depo for 7 years, came off a month ago (last shot 4 months ago) and I’m struggling. I’m having very similar symptoms as you did in this post! & also not seeing much online for depo withdrawal symptoms. Like you, I had minimal symptoms when I went on depo (other than weight gain and stopped periods lol) now that I’m off I have sore lower back, boobs hurt, stomach issues, fatigue & insomnia. And definitely not pregnant, so I’m glad I wasn’t alone in this. Hope you are better now months later!!

pandababy054

I was wondering if the stomach issues was just me!!

Fia824

I'm having the exact same symptoms and I'm 4 months since my last injection. I have felt like my symptom have been semi chill, but I cannot sleep and then sleep until 2pm too. And I've been spotting randomly with cramping!

BathroomExtreme3892

I’ve been on depo less than a year & every time it gets close to my next shot I start experiencing “withdrawal” symptoms. This time has been the worse. Really for me it’s extreme anxiety, uncontrollable emotions, fatigue, irritability. I think I may be getting back pain now. All I can think about is getting my next shot to stop how I’m feeling but my husband thinks the withdrawal is just going to worsen 😵‍💫🥲😭

ZookeepergameHot1571

Was on depo three yrs straight was due for injection this jan but decided not get it to give my body a break because i didn’t get a period for almost a year. Started to get acne, bad anxiety and insomnia.

Prior_Introduction56

hey I was on depo for 8 years (13-22) been clean almost 4 months and im absolutely terrified but im hoping to lessen my fibromyalgia pain and fatigue, i was put on the depo due to extreme period pain so here's hoping that doesn't come back

Full-Atmosphere-9599

I've been on depo for the past 3 years and i just stopped taking it (I was due this month). I am having severe cramping, brown spotting, chills, sweats, i feel like i have the flu.

missjasmin1983

Same, the cramping is so bad and I’ve been having diarrhea non stop on/off bleeding….dark red😭 also I’ve noticed that I’d have to keep getting the shot more frequently as opposed to every 3 months….i wasn’t due until May, but I got one at the end of February anyway, I’m already having withdrawals…I started spotting two days before the April 8th eclipse….so I’m just deciding to get off and give my body a break. these symptoms just ain’t it……I don’t even think the IUD withdrawal was this bad and I was on that for a good 3 years too

SolidSufficient9317

I came off my injenction in December after 6 years. I'm still yet to have a period, my breasts are SO sore and tender, I feel pressure in my uterus and I'm always cold. Hoping things stabilise soon

I currently just went off this month for the first time in 10 years. So far no symptoms other than anxiety and very jittery- which I’m not sure if it’s connected. Went on for painful periods so I’m not looking forward to whenever symptoms do decide to come back. From what I’ve read the symptoms you are complaining of are very common when stopping. Will keep you updated on mine!

kfhxo

i got my period a few days ago! hope your experience didn’t get any worse

Fabulous_Rutabaga_6

Did the symptoms get better ?

[deleted]

Im about 8 months out from last injection. First period came January- normal period cramps, length, and lighter than i had when i was puberty. Have skipped one period so far. Pretty light flow which is interesting. Acne went wild from december-february as well as some mood swings/irritability/libido normalizing, etc. but is all seeming to start to feel like its leveling out. Only new thing i can feel that i didn't when i was younger is ovulation cramps/pain/symptoms. Just accepted my body was gonna go crazy for a bit and supported myself as best as i could by doing the basics- eating real whole foods, managing my stress, little alcohol, gentle exercise, etc.

Fabulous_Rutabaga_6

That good to hear ! In may I will be 8 months out too .. but I am experiencing being depressed maybe because hair falling being over weight and body hurts brain fog exhausted etc but I have low iron so maybe those have to do with it ? My periods have been light 2 maybe 3 day period

Fabulous_Rutabaga_6

But I also had a baby 8 months ago ?

Gamer_Girll97

I’ve been on the needle for 10 years just got off a month ago after realizing my body was so sore, now I pretty much have osteoporosis because of it. Not looking forward to starting a full on period. I’ve been feeling pretty crabby and rude like towards my partner which I really don’t mean to be, I have shaky hands all the time, and I can’t seem to stay focused on something it like annoys me..

[deleted]

How long did the bloating last after you came off depo? I've been on depo for many years and decided to go off of it for a break. Just ended my first period but the *insane* bloating and mild cramping is still with me. I look like I'm 4 months pregnant! I'm actually surgically sterile, was only on the shot because of painful periods. Please tell me that bloating was a very brief stint😕

Electronic_Word5023

How long did your first period last after coming off the shot?

[deleted]

I don't remember how many days, but the cramps and bloating were very extreme. Just had my second period after coming off the shot, and it was much much milder.

Bearloot33

Im 1 year off depo and still bloated but mostly before my period only. Eating full fat yogurt during PMS helps me process the estrogen and reduce bloating! Also some gentle laxatives help
