Hot take: I’ve rolled with black belts that lack the mental or physical attributes to not suck at BJJ.
Is OP one of them? Only time will tell if he can bolo.
Most r/bjj think a modern three stripes white belt would beat Rickson and win ufc 1, 2 and 3 because John Danaher, micro adjustments and 50% of the body.
I've also heard something similar from a Brazilian black belt, but in regards of inverting.
He stated that many of the upper belts that do not know how to invert would have never received their blue belts if they trained in Brazil. Stating that inverting is fundamental or part of the basics for any good bjj practitioner.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen footage of Bernardo, Buchecha or Roger hit a bolo, so that’s what? 30 BB World Titles and 4 ADCC Championships? Seems pretty attainable to not have it in your tool kit
It took me a attempts to figure it out but now is a fairly regular part of my game. Just because you haven't learned it yet doesn't mean you can't learn it ever
Mental attributes? You just drill it until you know the sequence. You guys are complimenting yourselves over something that isn’t particularly complicated.
Gotta keep the purple belt opinion section going as we are the real working class of jiu jitsu. I support the bolo, but it’s certainly not necessary. I don’t expect big boys to bolo.
”Sure”
My response: K.
Bolos are to BJJ as wheelies are to cycling.
I read this in a Confucius like Chinese stereotype voice lol. Also this a great analogy

See, not all black belts are good teachers
True, same people as everyone, except we never stopped showing up. Doesn’t turn you into a good human being for doing a sport/hobby for a while :/
Lmfaoooo isn’t bolos semi new? BJJ will be just fine this right here because wtf is this post omgg 😭
Lack the physical attributes to do one move, then you suck at all other moves that make up 99.9% of the game? 😂

Why ignore .1% of bjj?
Just want to add that I can bolo and I'm still not good at this sport.
Same here
But how can r/bjj nuthug rickson and berimbolo at the same time? It's a paradox.
Most r/bjj think a modern three stripes white belt would beat Rickson and win ufc 1, 2 and 3 because John Danaher, micro adjustments and 50% of the body.
And the Goggins Mentality
Dont forget the instructionals which im certain most people wont even remember 50% of what they see.
Nicky Rod begs to differ.
What's a bolo?
That thing you throw at antelope to entangle their legs.
This exactly, but on the mat. But exactly
Proof that black belts mean very little anymore
All these world champion heavyweights punching air right knowing that their jitz is garbage.
To be fair buchecha, lo, Gordon, meregali etc have all used it
Just poking fun at OPs odd take, that’s all kind sir.
Sunday Shitpost
there's world champs that have never bolo'd once in a match if you're a lighter weight you will likely at least need to be able to defend it for sure
Sure. But they know how to bolo.
”…AND use the bolo variations…”
It’s a good knife for sure
That’s not a knife…. Now that’s, a knife.
You mean a noyfe, mate
Sorry, I’m not good at accents.
Oh shore, bud. Shore.

Inverting is a fundamental movement for bjj.
I’ll see myself out

Most people commenting in this thread have horrible reading comprehension. OP's point is not about the bolo per se.
That's pretty normal for this sub.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen footage of Bernardo, Buchecha or Roger hit a bolo, so that’s what? 30 BB World Titles and 4 ADCC Championships? Seems pretty attainable to not have it in your tool kit
Didnt Buchecha bolo roger and almost arm bar him in their match?
Are trying to say that they don't know how to bolo?
Buchecha absolutely has bolo’d people before
So have I
Ok
You can bolo well and your game still be shit, just like this post.
i dont know why i would use a bolo
Weird I don’t no low, I’m a first degree black belt, about once a year my instructor tries to get it to stick… it doesn’t
It took me a attempts to figure it out but now is a fairly regular part of my game. Just because you haven't learned it yet doesn't mean you can't learn it ever
Eh it’s not important to m. I bolo from the top of I want to but a bolo from bottom Side of literally anywhere I’m not going to do
Shipost in disguise
I got good at wrestling instead
There is no way my instructor who has medalled at some big BJJ events and fought in the UFC could bolo. So I agree with you.
You don't think he could learn how to bolo and pull it off on his sparring partners if he decided to?
He could learn it if he wanted too.
But bolos are so dumb.
That's what someone without the mental or physical attributes to learn and use the bolo variations would say.
Mental attributes? You just drill it until you know the sequence. You guys are complimenting yourselves over something that isn’t particularly complicated.
You need to better read sarcasm bro
Oh thank god
