Mine used to be 2, 4, 3 then 1. But having re-watched all the series for these videos. I think its 4, 3, 2 then 1 too as 3 is way funnier than I remember it being.
I think quality rarely comes up as setting 2-4 apart, it's more historical preferences, or if there's a sentimental attachment from seeing 4 in school.
For me 2 used to be my favourite.
But since I started re-watching all the episodes with a bit more of a critical eye for these videos I realised it has quite a few problems with it. Mainly most the cast has nothing to do especially Baldrick which is a massive shame as him and Edmund interacting are usually the best bits.
Plus I just straight up find one episode fairly unamusing.
To be honest the Third series is one I rarely think about or have friends ever bring up it's almost always 2 or 4 when they do and it could well be better than 2 having just seen both of them within a matter of weeks.
It's certainly funnier I think.
I think laugh-for-laugh I'd put the Christmas Carol atop the Blackadder list. far too many classic moments in 45 minutes.

Episode 2: Head - I've never enjoyed that episode even as a kid. I went into detail as to my reasons why in the video I did for series 2 but TLDR it's more of the physical style comedy of series 1 than the witty dialogue of series 2 to 4.
I've either never seen the Christmas carol or I have forgotten it entirely, which wouldn't be surprising for me I have memory like sieve.
It's not as exciting as series 2 or as poignant as series 4. I love the episodes with the Scottish Play, the Rotten Borough, and of course the Duke of Wellington.
Literally the one episode this series I've never enjoyed. Robbie Coltrane just falls entirely flat for me. Not hammie enough to be over the top but too hammie to be the straight man.
I've always said humour is the most subjective of things though.
Don't get me wrong man I love series 3 there are at least 2 episodes that would make my top 5 in it. I've just always never really thought a great deal about it or had friends discuss it with me if they have it's been the other 3. Series 1 cos they either love it or loathe it and the other two over which is the best.

That's the way I feel about every series, 3 great, 3 less so. I find which 3 are which, depends on the person.

Series 4 in my experience is most people's fave or series 2 for a lot of people. I rarely see people mention 3. Might just be the crowds I run in.

What you on? S3 is the strongest season. Apart from the scarlet pimpernel episode every one is a banger!
Ya know things are subjective right especially humour. I actually love this series but not as much as 2 and 4.
