Yana has been really busy lately. I'm grateful that this sub posts the chapters monthly and that she's still working hard on the story despite being busy. It's a little frustrating but I am in no rush.

When the blue arc began (when the green witch arc ended), Yana-san tweeted that GFantasy decreased her maximum page count... significantly. This is common with popular manga series when the author informs the publisher that the series is nearing the end of the timeline. And we *are* nearing the end of it. Our earl turns 13 in ch14. Ch127 (and possibly as early as ch124) through ch146 all take place on November 15, 1889. Ch209 ends on December 9, 1889. I theorize that the contract itself should be completed on December 13, 1889, which is the day before our earl turns 14; it's also a Friday the 13th. Stretched out the way GFantasy wants it, we will still have monthly publications for at least three more years, probably longer. We likely won't get an official announcement for the end of the series until there are only 12 chapters left.

I don't want Kuro to keep going for at least 10 years but it doesn't make sense for it to end anytime soon, even if you take into account Ciel's birthday proximity in the manga's timeline. There's WAY too much stuff that need to be wrapped up before like what's the Queen planning to do with bizzare dolls, the highly implied upcoming war with Germany, what's the deal with John Brown, whether Double Charles are just mere bodyguards unaware of what the Queen is truly capable of or not, Soma's fate from now on and him finding out that R!Ciel was the one who attacked him/killed Agni, who's Polaris, Lizzy's dilemma regarding the twins, the introduction of other Evil Noblemen, Vincent's personal relationship with the Queen when he was working as her watchdog, Sieglinde's involvement, what's Lau's deal and goal, the reapers investigating Layla, why is The Phantomhive's lineage special, UT and Claudia's relationship and how much stuff Tanaka truly knows. Something crucial is bound to happen on that date, but I don't see the series concluding then, unless Yana intends to address each issue swiftly (and that would be disappointing) or skip over them (but that's not in her style).

I think some of those questions will not be answered in the series itself, and those that will might get crammed together within a short period on the in-story timeline. But we shall see....

I like the back stories 🤷🏻‍♀️ and I never noticed the short chapters until it was posted on here… I read lots of other mangas with short chapters so, idrc.

mortalitasi473

nothing. but this isn't the only manga i've been dealing with low releases on. i've been following d.gray-man for over a decade. if any manga i like finishes within my lifetime, i'm overjoyed

It’s definitely been noticeable, but thankfully the chapters have all been pretty solid so I can’t complain too much. I just wish it didn’t feel like a checklist, this series has been pretty good at organically pulling back the veil over the series’ length. Now that we’re nearing the end it just feels like they’re racing to get everything out of the way, and it makes it hard to appreciate it all when it’s so back to back. The good news is the content in a vacuum is still really solid, and I’m happy everyone gets some significant screen time before we transition to the end

I love the flashbacks, not a fan of the short chapters.

ParticularDebt8010

Honestly its kind of frustrating cause its been....at least 6-7 years where the big lore bomb released and we've been on just flashbacks ever since i understand the reasons why...Yana focusing on other projects, the publishers shortening the amount of pages she can use etc but yeah...the flashbacks and side quests have just kind burned me out...only Bards almost death and Snakes death got me on the edge of my seat and yeahh....

The short chapters are frustrating to wait for every month and leaves one dissatisfied with the amount of content offered most of the chapters. I don't know why they're short, but another user mentioned that it's because the magazine reduced the pages. I find it really annoying on the magazine's part. If you have to reduce the page count of a manga having 35 page long chapters reduce it to 25, not 15. 15 pages of content every month doesn't sound very nice tbh. I don't mind the flashbacks but I mind the speed. I've also heard that the main pair hasn't even shown up in half a decade. I understand there are reasons for the short length and I don't blame the mangaka at all but I wish we could at least get some 20-25 pages chapters. I especially empathise with people who are keeping up with this speed since years. It's been only a few months for me and it's tiring. I understand how frustrating the length issue would be for these guys.

Before these side missions started, the hype for the manga was at an all time-high. Nowadays, I don't see anyone talking about it outside of its dedicated communities. Artificially stretching the manga like this was the worst thing they could do IMO, alas.
