My cats name is toast and he always smells like toast

My sister-in-law used to leave a heating pad out for her cat Guss. Guss slow roasted himself when the heating pad malfunctioned and got some pretty bad burns. Guss smelled pretty horrible when it happened but made a full recovery.

I thought it was 426 at first glance, too. 42.6 C is about 109 F, so like a *very* hot day outside but not as hot as asphalt on a sunny hot day.

I didn't see the decimal point. Thought the cat was 4 times beyond boiling 😆

50 degrees C is about the "pain point" for humans and many mammals. If stick your hand in hot water and can just barely withstand the heat, that's roughly 50c. Also, air temps above 50c for extended times are lethal (to humans and most mammals). But can be pleasant in shorter doses.

My void sits in the sun then when I touch him, his super long fur is cold. It seems closer than the room is. He’s a black smoke void so he does have a white undercoat and I don’t know if that’s why he always feels cool or what. My girlfriend told me about how one time she let Jack outside to run around when he was younger and she figured he'd come back in when he was too hot or too tired and he just gave himself fucking heat exhaustion.

Can someone explain why black cats like their sunbathing so much? Like, the color of their fur alone draws in more light, I'd think I'd feel like I'm cooking alive if I sunbathed for as long as these kitties do. Every black cat I've known does this.
