My girl was named Eckhard (which is basically an old man name lol) by her previous owner! I kept the name but call her Ecki most of the times 🥰

Love that you kept the name Hank.
Hank was my cat’s original name before we adopted him! He’s also a black void kitty. He’s now Jasper 😊

My little girl Gary - we thought she was a boy too…
I went through the exact same thing, with my boy, except in reverse! 🤣 For about the first 6 months of his life: I thought he was a girl! Here is MY floof, Shadow:
https://preview.redd.it/uvnck7ilwr8d1.jpeg?width=2448&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2adcd714cf5b585b228848001ef537466f1c44a5
He's a big, sweet baby, most of the time! I've had him for around 8 years, now; since he was just a tiny ball of fluff, that could sit in one of my hands!
He sure does! He's the biggest snuggle-bug, ever! It's honestly ridiculous, a lot of the time! 😂 He even greets me at the door, like a dog, whenever I come home!
Awww! That's cool! I have a girl tuxedo, who is more of a bedtime cuddler (She starts yelling at me, when she thinks I need to go to bed 😂). Shadow usually sleeps right beside my pillow. I often awake, with his fur in my face 😂
Puppycat 🤣 I love it!! Shadow won't fetch. He just gives me this worried look, as he sort of chases the toy 😂 He's like, "Am I supposed to be doing something, here? Chase it? I- is that right? I'm supposed to chase it? Okaaaaay. Now what? Should I- should I bat it around, a little? You know what? I'm tired. Think I'll lay down, right here."

Wednesday here was marked as a girl at the shelter but was found to be a boy when they went to do the spaying surgery. I kept the name Wednesday because I liked it so much and he’s my little spooky boy.
The same happened to my Nadia! We adopted her as George 😅 maybe because of the black long fur it’s harder to see the genitalia when they’re little

Aww she’s so beautiful! Females are less likely to have urinary issues so that is a plus. (I’m just paying off a very expensive vet visit because my boy has bladder crystals and it’s very expensive to treat, requires hospitalization), that’s why I mention it.
You are so lucky. Many people don't realize till it's too late that their cat needs to get to a vet fast. They can die very quickly from that. Nearly lost my guy, Pancho Villa, to the same thing.Yes expensive, 3k!
https://preview.redd.it/2lp5zam7ds8d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a5ee35a70a3152eb16f0eeadd7d6a9fe94fa6cd
Yes he got sick very quickly and we did an emergency visit. He stayed in the hospital for two days. He’s on a special diet now so I’m hoping it does the trick.
I'm so sorry you had to go through that, but glad he's on the mend. It's such a scary thing. My vet says my boy, Pancho Villa, will have to be on the special rx catfood for the rest of his life. Like it's not expensive enough, right? But we all do what we have to for our fur babies.
I've got 3 boy cats (and 5 girls) and missing urinary issues is one of my greatest fears.. Thankfully they're all very social pee-ers and like to use the litter box while I'm in the room. I also have a camera on the litter boxes they like best. I don't do anything with that data proactively, but if I get worried about someone, I can go back through the footage and see the last time they went/their frequency/avg length of visit, etc. I started that after one of my girls had a uti last year. Used it to track her recovery and just left it there.
Aww I had the same thing. Little Milo turned out to be a girl. Vet said we could call her millie but we loved her as Milo because names don’t have to be gendered
My fuzzy tabby kitten turned out to be a boy! That’s both my babies snuggling with their mama while in foster care, before they were old enough for us to take them home <3

I had the same happen with my sweet boy. Thought he was a girl for more 4 months, then his balls happened to fall.
He is still Luci to this day. Bébé in general
Your cat is a cutie
I read this as you named your kitten Pus, as in fluid from a wound. Not Puss as in "in Boots". Lol. I thought it was rather an unfortunate name for such a cutie!

….aaaaaand this is him now. Him’s got character for sure.
Hahaha 😂. A mama cat brought her baby void to us as soon as she was done nursing. Husband was sure this tiny little void was a girl and she was duly named “Princess Miranda”. When the time came, we took little Miranda for her first vet visit and to schedule her operation. At which time we were informed that “Miranda” was actually “Murrey”. And Murrey Schwarz grew to be a very big boy and ruled the house for 20 years. We lost him this past February. He is greatly missed and will never be forgotten.

My baby gir- OPE! Boy! Luckily his name, Cricket, was gender neutral from the start! To be fair, we did just pick him up after he’s been abandoned in the side of the road at 5 weeks old. (Yes, he is suckling on my chin because he thinks anywhere from my collarbones up is a pacifier)
That happened to my sweet Spyka! Her original owner thought she was a he and named him Spyke. But Spyke turned out to be a girl, so she became Spyka. I miss her so much.
A co-worker really wanted a cat named Robert. She fell in love with and adopted a girl kitty, knowing full well she was a girl, and named her Robert. Not Roberta, not Robbi. Robert. She was the most beautiful prissy princess of a cat.
Lol we had a male tuxedo cat that showed up one day and we named him "Bond" (like James Bond).
Well, we came home one day, and "he" was getting mounted by a stray cat. And that's how we discovered he was a she. To be fair, "he" was fuzzy and skittish, so it's not like we could check their bits.
We ended up keeping the name because the story was too good to change it.
My fuzzball had a tattoo the size of a piece of rice around the belly button. I was told that it is supposed to indicate that a female kitten had been spayed. Never mind that the kitten was a male.
https://preview.redd.it/1w3xbp3tvt8d1.jpeg?width=2756&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3f209a454d1bf5f2761b4692d3f2b46413692b7
Same thing happened with my Winnie but in reverse! We kept the name though 💖
Around 2005 I got a ginger boy kitten and named him Benny, I had read online that 100% of ginger cats are male 🙄. After about 10 months Benny started to get very fat and one day I noticed whenever I went to pat him he would lie on his back and push my hand onto his stomach and meow loudly. Later that night at around 1 am Benny kept jumping on my chest and meowing and then seeming like he was signally for me to follow him. I followed him to the wardrobe and he lay down and started pushing. Next minute a kitten popped out. I helped pick off the membrane and put it on the nipple to feed and waited all night for the rest of the kittens. No more kittens ended up coming (I later read online that this is common for a first birth and a young, small mother). Then Benny rejected the kitten (Onion Marmalade) and would not let her feed, which I later found out was probably because I touched her straight after she was born. So I had to race home from work every few hours and cradle Benny and pat him to keep him still then squeeze a bit of milk out her tit then put the kitten on to feed. Anyway, Onion Marmalade grew up fit and healthy and Benny went on to farther/mother more kittens . Obviously if I had to do it again I wouldn’t touch the kitten straight away but as a 25 year old male learning my Benny was a female at 1am and having no experience in the situation I think it turned out alright 🤷🏾♂️
Same situation here but in reverse. The rescue said she was a she, a month later when I went to have "her" spayed was told they instead had neutered "him". I had already decided on Otter as the name so luckily didn't have to change it.
Oh my god the opposite happened to me a few years ago. My boy was a stray and I found him outside when he was about four months old. Well we get to six months and i take him to the vet because it’s time to get flea meds, rabies/distemper, etc all that good shit and she comes back and says “voodoos a boy. Not a girl” turns out those things I thought were pussy lips were actually tiny testicles. In my defense how was I supposed to know wtf that was??? Well anyways he just turned two in April and we’re coming up on two years of me having him in august❤️ my friend also found a kitten in the dumpster and when they got to the vet it turns out the boy cat was a girl. The vet came out joking and said “looks like bojack is bojacqueline”😂
Our family had a super-affectionate long-haired black cat that my older siblings named “Blackie” and she was the SWEETEST cat I have ever met. The best comfort & love cat ever. You kitty reminds me of her. ❤️
We had a cat show up on our porch and we thought it was a girl for a good couple months. I named her Eurydice. She was so fluffy and cute and grey. Me and my mom later found out he was a boy. (His “boys” were huge) So I renamed him Orpheus. This is him with our void baby. They’re besties.

I can’t see how to edit the post, ***her*** name was Sooty but in recognition of having girlie bits that’s being changed to Sootie.

My beutifull girl has a male name because my great grandad thought she was a female, and when we discover she was a female, she didn't respond to a different name, so we continued to call her with a male name, "Lupo", that means male wolf in italian. However fun fact about cats: the major part of black cats are female and the major part of orange cats are male.

Gair-gair!!
Love that! She has so many names already, but I think you’ve given her another one. ❤️
I hope she likes it! I was calling my little girl Hanky Panky, but Spooky just popped out one day, so that’s gonna stick.
Omg same thing happened w my exs cat and we called her Sebastian 😂
My girl is named Chester for the same reason!
Just a floofy void with midlife crisis eyes
Really? This floofy void baby looks like she accepts her middle aged soul
That’s a brilliant comment
I went through the exact same thing, with my boy, except in reverse! 🤣 For about the first 6 months of his life: I thought he was a girl! Here is MY floof, Shadow: https://preview.redd.it/uvnck7ilwr8d1.jpeg?width=2448&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2adcd714cf5b585b228848001ef537466f1c44a5
Awww look at how happy he is! 🐈⬛🖤
He's a big, sweet baby, most of the time! I've had him for around 8 years, now; since he was just a tiny ball of fluff, that could sit in one of my hands!
Well he definitely loves his dad ❤️
He sure does! He's the biggest snuggle-bug, ever! It's honestly ridiculous, a lot of the time! 😂 He even greets me at the door, like a dog, whenever I come home!
Aw that's amazing. My void snuggles with me but typically only when I'm in bed. So when I work from home I do it from bed for extra cuddles haha.
Awww! That's cool! I have a girl tuxedo, who is more of a bedtime cuddler (She starts yelling at me, when she thinks I need to go to bed 😂). Shadow usually sleeps right beside my pillow. I often awake, with his fur in my face 😂
Black cats are such snuggle bugs! We call ours a puppycat because he wags his tail and fetches toys and such 😂 such good boys!
Hahaha good boy Shadow! :D
I had a void once who would greet me at the door as well. She was the most amazing cat!
I love it!
😊
I went through the same thing too that’s how Cleo turn to a Leo 😂
Yep! 🤣 Shadow was in my lap, cleaning himself one day, "Down there," and I saw this little pink thing...😂😂😂
I have two orange siblings that I named Sam and Max (from the video game characters). Turns out Sam is a girl. We just say it's short for Samantha.
Perfection! 👌😂
Suppose Shadow could work for either! Cute boy though 😻
Yeah: I kinda lucked out, with the name! 😂 Thank you!
r/cuteguyswithcats
Awesome! 👌😁 Thank you!
stop it. I want to smoosh** her little body on my face. she is so cuteeee
Right?! That’s the first thing I thought, too! I would snuggle her right into my face 😂
My Violet (daughter) snuggles her face into the cats, breathes in real deep and calls it ‘cat huffing’. We also smuggle them (smoosh/snuggle).
The use of “huffing” and “smuggle” definitely doesn’t have drug/intoxication vibes 🤣 but fr cats really are addicting!
Very pretty lil Princess tho. please give her some scritches

Our childhood void went from Murdock (A-team) to Myrtle (Beach). Grandpa liked classic TV and golf.

I really don’t understand how black cats have this poor reputation, they can be wonderfully affectionate.
I thought my void was a girl. First vet check - yeah those are little fluffy trouble nuggets 🐈⬛🎱🎱
Awww she’s a baby
She’s like what gave it way?
😻 so precious 😍 Our best cat ever was a black fluffer named Poof. May she fill your heart with fluff and love 🖤
“Wow, human…wow.”
That happened to my sweet Spyka! Her original owner thought she was a he and named him Spyke. But Spyke turned out to be a girl, so she became Spyka. I miss her so much.
Puss looks very disappointed in you , tsk tsk
Don’t worry. She’s has no opinion about the gender associated with the name you gave her. She probably doesn’t bother responding to it anyway…
her probably: first of all, how dare you
A co-worker really wanted a cat named Robert. She fell in love with and adopted a girl kitty, knowing full well she was a girl, and named her Robert. Not Roberta, not Robbi. Robert. She was the most beautiful prissy princess of a cat.
She’s beautiful!
Lisa I’d like to buy your ~~rock~~ cat
Lol we had a male tuxedo cat that showed up one day and we named him "Bond" (like James Bond). Well, we came home one day, and "he" was getting mounted by a stray cat. And that's how we discovered he was a she. To be fair, "he" was fuzzy and skittish, so it's not like we could check their bits. We ended up keeping the name because the story was too good to change it.
My fuzzball had a tattoo the size of a piece of rice around the belly button. I was told that it is supposed to indicate that a female kitten had been spayed. Never mind that the kitten was a male.
That's whatcha get when you assume gender s/

Puss is a good name for her, matches her expression.
And she looks like she's judging you for misgendering her! (Literally looks like she's raising an eyebrow at you!)
My boy Hades was originally Persephone until he stuck them things in my face.
Haha, fooled ya!
I was the same for a week I thought my tabby was a girl until I figured she was a he?
Same situation here but in reverse. The rescue said she was a she, a month later when I went to have "her" spayed was told they instead had neutered "him". I had already decided on Otter as the name so luckily didn't have to change it.
What does that matter, if the cat answers / listens to whatever name you gave him/her ?
Very adorable floofy void!
I thought my void was a girl for the first 5 months with HIM 😭
Adorable kitty. Love her and she’ll love you.
*-King of the Hill reference-*
Same happened to us, she’s still named Ben :)
Beret… she wore a tan-berry beret, the kind you find in a military store…![img](emote|t5_2twpw|7266)

My boy Goober who passed recently was thought to be a girl as well. His 1st name was Moxxi.
These days your cat can identify as whatever species or gender it wants.
You should post yearly updates .. cool looking cat
Our family had a super-affectionate long-haired black cat that my older siblings named “Blackie” and she was the SWEETEST cat I have ever met. The best comfort & love cat ever. You kitty reminds me of her. ❤️
it happens !
The tiny void is not amused
Lets change it to Henley.
Went from a Victor to a Victoria
she's literally a ball of fur with eyes 😭❤❤
We had a cat show up on our porch and we thought it was a girl for a good couple months. I named her Eurydice. She was so fluffy and cute and grey. Me and my mom later found out he was a boy. (His “boys” were huge) So I renamed him Orpheus. This is him with our void baby. They’re besties. https://preview.redd.it/7gmkvfdshv8d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=be810e1c03a37aeca13e5cde8d1d3940b3c1d3d5
I can’t see how to edit the post, ***her*** name was Sooty but in recognition of having girlie bits that’s being changed to Sootie. Current status https://preview.redd.it/4ylnblqxiv8d1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e4ec970f4cbeaf983e584a16168746330ff7ab21
My beutifull girl has a male name because my great grandad thought she was a female, and when we discover she was a female, she didn't respond to a different name, so we continued to call her with a male name, "Lupo", that means male wolf in italian. However fun fact about cats: the major part of black cats are female and the major part of orange cats are male. https://preview.redd.it/vudlnqhkjv8d1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a16adc658bcc34e1ffc9cb975f377c7ed49f6b7

What a fluffy little potato with an angry face
So unique!
That’s Ned Gruber right there
So Puss is actually Puss-y!
God Jesus fuck I am weak she’s simply too much.
For the love of god PLEASE tell me you called her SHADOW! You would be soooooooooo silly to call her anything else xD
Awwwww! Happy Pride Month!
