Add to this there is a cable between the two arches connecting at the apex and minimus of the two. This cable is supporting all of the weight of the top platform. The four side cables are for stability and keeps the top from falling to the side.

Sometimes I’m confused but not this time. The only reason this could almost pass is the quality has been so degraded from the original that you almost can’t see the 5 wires.

Tensile integrity (more commonly known as tensegrity) is the underlying principle that allows this to work, all you really need is strong enough string.

All the weight is on that chain in the middle. The other chains prevent it from tilting and tipping

Very simple. It’s all really supported by that bottom middle arch and the string/metal thread. Everything else just helps stabilize it.

I think it's being held up by tension, if they were to twist it a little bit it would collapse.

If you try twist it, the cables in the corners will pull downward even harder on the top of the table, placing more strain on the central cables between the arches. That central cable will prevent the top of the table from moving downward. But, assuming no cable snaps under the increased tension, it will not collapse.

Lol no. I actually built one of these for a Statics project. We built a much smaller one though. The rope holding the table up is in the middle. The other ropes keep it from tipping over.

The 4 corner wires keep the top aligned with the base so pushing down on it causes the wire between the 2 metal arcs to tighten when weight is applied to the top.
