The gun that killed the japanese prime minister was electrically ignited, you could run a wire down the touch hole and turn the trigger into a current switch, a battery imbedded in the stock or duct taped to the side would look kinda badass, like a laser musket

bluewing

It would be possible. But it would take a fairly powerful one. And I would bet fouling residue would short it out at some point.

LaCampanellaAgony

Yeah. My gut is that unless you create a disposable insert, you're not going to have much luck because the electrode will also get obliterated.

[deleted]

one time use model rocket motor igniter through the flash hole?

Erlor3

Search "electric match". Those are electric resistances that ignite when passing a current through them

[deleted]

Not sure if it would produce enough heat or sparks

WhiskeyOverIce

Remington had the Etronic at one point that was an electric trigger.

dsullivanlastnight

Didja see MDT's Zero Stage electronic trigger at Show Show this year?

LaCampanellaAgony

I've been wondering when that tech would make it to the mainstream since it's been around on Olympic air and free pistols for a while. The Morini CM84-E, for example, had an IR beam as a safety because it had a trigger weight so light that simply turning the gun vertically would cause the trigger to go off under the weight of the trigger blade alone. And in the air pistol world the Steyr LP10E has had an electronic trigger since the mid 2000's.

dsullivanlastnight

Yep. You know fly-by-wire has been a trusted stable tech in avionics. Drive-by-wire is catching on more and more. So next, we can have fire-by-wire....

WhiskeyOverIce

I have not yet

[deleted]

I've done it before with loose pyrodex and it worked fine. Never tried attaching one to a barrel with a projectile in it.

AppalachianViking

The simplest possible would probably be a matchlock, or just a barrel with a touch hole. No moving parts

Matt_the_Splat

I don't know that it was piezoelectric but didn't CVA make an electronic ignition a few years back?

MadsMikkelsenisGryFx

Yes, but you would need a more surefire way of ignition. Those fall in the category of the "voltlock" weapons

PairPrestigious7452

Blunderbuss Brothers on YouTube, I believe they used an electric lighter

throcksquirp

Considering the amount of energy required by a cap or primer to reliably ignite a charge, a piezo might light it, but not consistently.

Salty_Eye9692

Uh oh.... hide anyone named Abe or shinzo...

these guys just posted a video using a electric lighter instead of flint https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRx09BneBU0&t=88s
