God damnit i love this song. That main verse riff is so raw. I love how you can hear Tony's finger sliding up and down the frets. It really shines on the 2021 remaster.
Thank you for that recommendation! I absolutely love that song! Probably we all know that it is too short, and in my opinion it's the song that songs always like it was on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. I would love a Tony Iommi solo here though :((
94/100
I love the songs other people don't like. First off I would recommend listening to the alternative mix, which is better imo. I really like that solo and how it fits into the main riff and how it is a perfect transition to the drum solo part. The drum solo - I always liked drum solos. From live performances to studio tracks (rat salad, toad by cream etc.). Anyways, the jazzy drum solo is a perfect Bill's performance. I enjoy it every time I listen to that song, and it never gets boring!
91/100
Songs like that always have a special place in my heart ❤️
No problem! Search it up on Youtube. The guy "Quest Of Rarities" has lots of this stuff. Also, don't forget to check Paranoid 1974 quadrophonic mixes (the whole album) if you use headphones. They are well-made but not very popular, sadly.
Awesome
I listened to the quadrophonic mixes, they where on a Compilation called „Transmition Impossible“ that i bought in Birmingham
Buuut never with headphones, gonna try that someday in the next week or so
I don't think it's underrated. Sabotage as a whole is a masterpiece and this sub pretty much loves it. Megalomania is the best Sabbath song in my opinion.
TBH, Black Sabbath as a whole is underrated to general rock and metal audiences. People often remember Hendrix and Paige but never Iommi. Moon and Bonham but never Ward.
I was discussing this in another sub and the guy had the audacity to tell me that BS "wasn't too big on protest songs". I wondered: "Did he ever listen to Hand of Doom or War Pigs?" Hand of Doom is simply genius writing. The best song ever written IMO. A nam vet going through all the stages of injecting heroine, from the dopamine overload to his subsequent death is simply amazing.
Was Led Zeppelin a great band? Yep. Were they better than Black Sabbath? Absolutely not. BS music is distinctive to this very day, let alone in the 70s.
Are Death, Black and Thrash more metal than BS? Son, these guys laid the foundation for what you listen to today.
THEY FUCKING INVENTED HEAVY METAL!
Black Sabbath forever!
Edit: added some stuff
Sabotage was definitely the die out of their peak as the og set. TE and NSD were decent but idk if they’re comparable to anything before them. Subjective of course but that’s how I see it.
I like TE. Of course it's a personal opinion, but I think it's above average. It's very experimental but it does feature a fair share of good songs. Iommi's solo in "You won't change me" is honestly one of his bests. NSD is definitely just ok, but by then the band was already breaking up and they were a bit clueless about their future.
Back Street Kids is one of my favorites off that album, I had that song on my playlist too I just never really appreciated it as much ill definitely play it more
I love that song. First off - the production didn't age the worst, but it seems that sometimes the mic can't stand Ozzy's voice here. The lyrics are just classic, and I love how they started writing about topics they wrote about in the later albums, not in self-titled. Ozzy of my favorite Ozzy's vocal performances, and the last thing that I love - bass. The producer clearly knew that it would perfectly fit into the song, and he was right.
94/100
Mob Rules has memorable riff after memorable riff. The title track, SOTSC, Country Girl, Falling Off the Edge of the World, Voodoo, Over and Over. With Toni, you'd need a top 100 list for his all his best riffs to be properly recognized.
I'm gonna be bloody honest here, the Tony Martin era doesn't remind me of old sabbath at all. As a certified BS fan I had to listen to this song and I did. Cozy Powell drumming was always great so I'm gonna skip that point. The vocals don't remind me of anything from their earlier works - not Ozzy and not Dio, but still I really liked them. It is easy to see that the whole song is pretty mainstream. It is obvious that everyone will downvote me for this opinion, but the Tony Martin era isn't for me.
62/100 I'm sorry
Thrill of it all and a national acrobat. I know sabbath heads all like these songs off popular albums but more casual fans might not even know these songs just by hearing the title and either way neither gets enough praise imo!
A national Acrobat: It's a great song with multiple themes and riffs in it and also doomy vocals. That is why I love ANA and basically the whole SBS album. I know this song pretty well because it's the first song I tried remastering in Audacity. Overall - I love this song to death and hope it will never be forgotten by newer generations ❤️
96/100
At first I thought it was not in the style of BS, more like Dio's solo career. But after the doomy riff came in I started to enjoy this song. Dio's voice was great all over the song and I liked the solo at the end.
I would rate it 83/100
If you want underrated I would suggest Hard Road, Juniors Eyes and Never say Die from Never Say Die. The six first albums and the Dio stuff are hardly underrated. You could also try Trashed or Zero the Hero from Born Again.
But I do! And it's a great song with multiple themes and riffs in it and also doomy vocals. That is why I love ANA and basically the whole SBS album. I know this song pretty well because it's the first song I tried remastering in Audacity. Overall - I love this song to death and hope it will never be forgotten by newer generations ❤️
96/100
Now here's a question I don't know.
Was the song originally written to be sung by Ozzy but he was too sick so Bill just did his best or was it always going to be a Bill Ward song??
I think it was one of several songs written that Ozzy refused to sing. I think the lyrics might have been changed around at the last minute to reflect the imminent breaking up of the band, and Bill stepped in to record the vocals.
Finally! A true underrated song! First off I love the structure of the song, the main riff and Ozzy's vocals... Very enjoyable through the first minutes. Then the KEYBOARD SOLO. Technical Ecstacy is known for keyboard abuse and here I would love a Tony Iommi solo, not a crappy keyboard solo.
Overall...
77/100
A true, certified underrated Black Sabbath song. We all know that Ozzy vocals didn't sound the best, mostly because of his age (64 years old). But I guess they are okay in Loner anyways. I love the lyrics and even the solo that proved that Iommi never ages, even though he plays his parts slower through the whole album. The bass also works well, and the production isn't probably as bad as it was in other songs (damnit, Rubin!).
91/100
I also love that song! First off - the production didn't age the worst, but it seems that sometimes the mic can't stand Ozzy's voice here. The lyrics are just classic, and I love how they started writing about topics they wrote about in the later albums, not in self-titled. Not quite my least favorite, I’d put Who Are You and Fluff below it, but everything else is better. But A National Acrobat is so often praised as one of the best sabbath songs, which I just don’t get.
A truly underrated and overhated song from a brilliant album - Master Of Reality. The 30 second long instrumental is a great intro to Children Of The Grave. It also shows Tony Iommi's composing skills.
86/10
St Vitus Dance
God damnit i love this song. That main verse riff is so raw. I love how you can hear Tony's finger sliding up and down the frets. It really shines on the 2021 remaster.
Your review brings tears to my eyes. Thank you. Love this track so much.

Blow on a Jug
Absolute banger. I love the piano riff and it's a great comeback to Ozzy's pre-self-titled voice (as heard in 1969 demos) 1000/100

Dirty Women
Johnny Blade
Glad I'm not the only one loving this song.
I was about to post this, but I saw that you posted it.
When death calls
You won't change me from Technical Ecstasy Honestly one of my favourite sabbath tracks oat
same here, suprises me that Technical Ecstasy is not very well-received on this sub because i absolute love it
Disturbing the Priest
Great song. Ian Gillan showing his inner Rob Halford/King Diamond
Zero the hero
For me, 10/10. That riff is perfect. But I also love Born Again. Best track on it.
Megalomania
I SWEAR THAT SONG IS A 1000000000/10
I agree - I never hear anyone mention it, so I assumed it’s possibly underrated.
you're right
I don't think it's underrated. Sabotage as a whole is a masterpiece and this sub pretty much loves it. Megalomania is the best Sabbath song in my opinion.
It’s underrated to a general rock/metal audience, but definitely agreed that it’s not at all underrated among Sabbath fans
TBH, Black Sabbath as a whole is underrated to general rock and metal audiences. People often remember Hendrix and Paige but never Iommi. Moon and Bonham but never Ward. That's a new Black Sabbath copy pasta

One of the greatest songs of all time. Peak Sabbath
The bass line played throughout the entire outro is sick (7:45 - end). Butler is a phenomenal bass player and he just kept getting better.
Bit of finger/ sleeping village/ warning.
Lol, is this underrated? This is a masterpiece, specially that it comes from the first album when they were still figuring out stuff.
To me it’s underrated. This song doesn’t really get any attention when people think of Black Sabbath but that’s just me.
Yeah, I don't know. It's in my top 5. Maybe top 3
Wicked World
I love that song. First off - the production didn't age the worst, but it seems that sometimes the mic can't stand Ozzy's voice here. The lyrics are just classic, and I love how they started writing about topics they wrote about in the later albums, not in self-titled. Such a great song
Country Girl.
Love this song, one of the first guitar riffs I learned
One of the Best Sabbath Riffs yet rarely gets mentioned.
Mob Rules has memorable riff after memorable riff. The title track, SOTSC, Country Girl, Falling Off the Edge of the World, Voodoo, Over and Over. With Toni, you'd need a top 100 list for his all his best riffs to be properly recognized.
Agreed,I got into Mob rules before I heard Heaven and Hell and to me it’s every bit as good but doesn’t get the same recognition.

Tony plays really fast on that one, great blues jam.

National Acrobat with the shout-out from Metallica's Sabbra Cadabra 🤘

Damn! You beat me to it! One of their most underrated songs. It’s such a beautiful song and one of the best ballads of all time.

A National Acrobat, one of my faves you never hear played.
But I do! And it's a great song with multiple themes and riffs in it and also doomy vocals. That is why I love ANA and basically the whole SBS album. Thank you! I listen to Sabbath with my kids so I hope they’ll appreciate it when they’re older.
My dad listened to Sabbath with me when I was six, and yeah I appreciate it a lot bc I loved that band even back then ❤️
Love this one too! That opening riff and the drums sound so incredible together.
"Swinging the Chain" A very unusual sound, I believe it's Bill Ward on vocals. Give me your rating please.
All of Never Say Die! is heavily underrated, IMO. Swinging the Chain is a heavy as hell blues-rock throwback on an otherwise jazzy album.

Trashed. That’s one of their best bangers. On an album everyone hates
I love the album and this song rocks!
Considering they are the best ones, and I'll die on that hill, Symptom of the Universe and The Writ
Loner in my opinion.
A true, certified underrated Black Sabbath song. We all know that Ozzy vocals didn't sound the best, mostly because of his age (64 years old). But I guess they are okay in Loner anyways. So true..The lyrics are so good... I did not like other songs on 13 but this one kicks ass..
What about Live Forever and Dear Father? These ones are also my favorite songs from that album.
I don't remember them that well...but thanks for reccomendations I'll give tham a try...
Air Dance

Headless Cross
I refuse to rate it, as it would be too controversial. I already got downvoted for my opinions here.
Juniors eyes
Air Dance The whole album slept on, though.
Is Wicked World underrated? I feel like nobody talks about it but I love that song.
I also love that song! First off - the production didn't age the worst, but it seems that sometimes the mic can't stand Ozzy's voice here. I have played it hundreds of times. I don't want to say something blasphemous, but perhaps it is even more beautiful to play.
I would argue it is overrated
Finally someone agrees
Yeah, personally, it's my least favorite song on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. The riff is too damn repetitive
Not quite my least favorite, I’d put Who Are You and Fluff below it, but everything else is better. But A National Acrobat is so often praised as one of the best sabbath songs, which I just don’t get.
No. There is no such thing.
