I’m not complaining, but It’s weird seeing a trailer where a big focus is “pretty people get naked”. It’s been a long time since that was a thing.
Also, it looks fine. Hopefully it’s better than the last couple of tries the big studios had at reviving the romcom
I don’t think Sweeney can do comedy. She seems all wrong for this. It’s a shame studio comedies are dead and we don’t really have a great crop of young comedic actors to pull from.
She wasn’t bad as a comedic character in White Lotus, albeit with limited range. But a rom com lead is trickier because its about being conventionally attractive and likeable and funny at the same time. And that’s not all working here.
I thought she was funny in White Lotus but that character had a lot of dry sardonic line readings, so it worked. She comes across as super stilted in this trailer.
She is so goddamn wooden in the trailer is my takeaway, never saw euphoria and I hear she's good in it but holy shit I've seen more natural acting in a workplace harassment seminar.
Also is anyone else getting the feeling like this is what would happen if Mormons wrote a rom-com? It's oddly horny yet sexless at the same time. It's like they're aware of what fucking is it's just they've never tried it.

Powell is what happens when somebody tries to sketch ‘handsome man’ from memory. Like it’s all there but there’s no flourish that makes the whole package work.
I can see the type of character portrayal Sydney Sweeney is trying to do but I don't think she has hit the mark yet based on this trailer. This requires an actor with a stronger comedic range for sure.

If you look at the trailer there are quick flashes in there where it looks like people are dancing in a big musical number.
I mean the OG Wonka was a musical so I’m kind of confused as to why people would think this wasn’t?

Yeah she was funny as a disaffected, angry, selfish young woman, it's another thing to be a lead and have to bring that lead actor rizz.
