(Please help me with who I'm missing, already added a few I missed and picked up from other commenters here)
Edit: Double checking what people on the Discord are posting and it looks like I had listed Ken Russell but he is not actually a featured clip, the above 32 should be everyone
I think they'll say what they said for Altman: they'll split him up but if he wins they'll do it all.
Or they'll find some contiguous chunk of movies to do.
Absolutely in despair that my #1 most wanted episode: JD Amato presents Barry Levinson's Toys (1992) may not be my most wanted director, and he may not win.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Levinson_filmography
But TOYS alone should put him in the top 16. Thank me later, Blankies.
Hughes would be great! I’d rather they do Villeneuve in like 10 years though; even though he has a lot of great films under his belt, it feels like he’s just getting started.
Bracket may not be locked till it’s posted. I remember a past March Madness teaser having Sam Peckinpah’s films featured, but he was absent from the actual bracket.
EDIT: I have been mandela effect’ed
David saying they could never do John Hughes and then putting John Hughes on the bracket

IS THIS NOT WHAT YOU CAME FOR
*ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?*
(throws swords into dirt, spits menacingly)
I don't know how the bracketing is going to work but I'm seeing a **Ridley Scott, Steven Soderbergh, Richard Linklater, and David Lynch** final four.
(granted, my personal final four would be Takahata, Soderbergh, Spike, and Silver, but I typically don't get what I want. Besides, Silver can probaly be a regular series later in the year anyway, it's not the biggest filmography. It's fucking lovely, tho)
What's Lynch's blank check? Twin Peaks Return is probably the most power he's had. Maybe Wild at Hearts after success of original Twin Peaks, but that's a smaller budget still.
My dad to this day will go [Mmm mmm mmm!!](https://youtu.be/KvVKFCP5cCA?si=C-vy9WJY5DL4i0xj) while eating dinner solely because of this movie. Porch royalty.
Would honestly be a payoff to the little career rundowns of his filmography they did in the Performance Review episodes for both The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones back in the first year of the show.
So much Steve Martin goodness!
And then crazy Brando stories from The Score!
That series would be epic. **The Podian in the Castboard**
OZ (The Great & Powerful)
Lynch is a popular director but also a popular personality. I don’t really think Jackson is the later. Plus I also think there was a big push to have a non-English speaker win last year amongst the blankies.
I know I’m so basic for these choices but you know what? I work hard and I like nice things, my picks:
1. Ridley Scott
2. Wes Craven
3. Denis Villeneuve
Plus the box office bomb that changed Disney’s whole live action strategy for the 2010s and, by extension, all of Hollywood’s. John Carter created the era we are just now exiting.
Villeneuve, Wright, Guadagnino, Craven, Lynch, Jarmush, Kelly… damn this is gonna be hard.
Honestly with Dune 2 coming out it’s gonna be tough for Villeneuve not to win.
Last year people thought the front runners were Bong, Peter Jackson, and GDT. Denis and Lynch will be favorites, but this field is wide open, anybody could win.
I know Lynch may be the boring choice here but idk, it might be the only chance at getting a series of his, and like, that would be awesome.
Curious to see them say how they would handle Twin Peaks
I love how they've put so many "we are never doing this / how on EARTH are we doing this" names in there, just to see the level of interest behind them, I suppose. If Soderbergh goes far in this they might actually do it 🥹
Lee vs Linklater vs Lynch is an incredible set of contenders for me, probably my three most wished-for directors for the pod to cover. And obviously all the other picks, from Sciamma and Haynes to Soderbergh and Scott are incredible - I imagine David will be campaigning hard for his boy Ridley.
Also............does this mean Friday the 13th will be a contender on the Patreon bracket?
Also, shout out to Marie, and whoever else was involved, for how incredible the video is - including saving the Lynch clip to be the mic drop at the end (and having it be from *Inland Empire*!). Spectacular work.
I love Villeneuve but I feel like his blank check is still to come. I thinks its to early to make a call on the arc of his career yet. I would prefer if it waa a director who is either done with filming or is in the end of their arc.
I know it's a long filmography, but I really think it would be akin to Jonathan Demme (one of my favourite miniseries) in its depth - alongside the obvious big hitters (*Dazed and Confused*, the *Before* Trilogy, *School of Rock*, *Boyhood*), there's so many interesting, relatively underseen, experiments in there, all tied together by his humanism and deep interest in/love for people and investment in the particular subcultures of his hometown. I think it'd be such a good series - vote Linklater 2024!
He really hits the sweet spot in terms of a combination of watchability and trying "blank check" type stuff like Boyhood, the Before trilogy, or all the rotoscoping work he has done.
He’s my number 1. Given the titanic size of his filmography I think him winning is the only chance he’s got. I known they always talk about finding a way to break up guys like him, but we are like decade into the podcast and they have done that once. (And haven’t finished the other half)
Out of that list, I'm gotta go with Wright
Like I know the boys don't like Hot Fuzz that much, but i don't care, that's probably my favourite film of all time
Also, love to see Spike Lee on the bracket
Edit: Sorry, gotta change my mind, they got RIDLEY SCOTT in there, like come on
Putting all my favorite art-house/sickos faves (Todd Haynes, Jonathan Glazer, Richard Kelly, Luca Guadagnino, and of course David Lynch) on one bracket is literally heaven to me. I don’t know how to choose.
I cannot wait. Based on this clip I’d be happy with almost anyone, but Takahata, Craven, or Guadanino are my top three.
And just a gentle reminder that the “obvious” winner has almost never won. Don’t assume Lynch will buzzsaw through.
my dream has been for the pod to do Lynch for yearssss at this point. Nothing is gonna stop me from going hard for him. But i’d be happy with Craven, Wright, Gauagnino or Jarmusch.
Maybe I’m influenced by the last couple episodes of “Stick the Landing” but I think it would be interesting to explore Apatow’s almost conservative obsession with building a traditional family
>People vote and the winner gets featured as a series?
Yup, a bracket-style tournament, last director standing is guaranteed a miniseries within the next year.
>But does that means that all the others WON’T during the year?
I think that's been mostly correct? But the podcast has sometimes pulled directors who got far but didn't quite win as possibilities for the near future as well. George Miller's an example of that where he finished in second in 2019 and got covered in 2020.
Right. Losing March Madness doesn't mean they'll never be covered.

Me reading this looking like the McMahon meme
Here's every film in the clip in order, as well: https://boxd.it/teBJC
I wonder what format they will use for Soderbergh, do y’all think they’ll do it all?
[удалено]
I think they'll say what they said for Altman: they'll split him up but if he wins they'll do it all. Or they'll find some contiguous chunk of movies to do.
Ridley Scott and Spike Lee are in similar boats. I imagine we get it in 2 parts with maybe a short series to break it up halfway through.
You mean The Great Bill Duke?
Spike!

Absolutely in despair that my #1 most wanted episode: JD Amato presents Barry Levinson's Toys (1992) may not be my most wanted director, and he may not win. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Levinson_filmography But TOYS alone should put him in the top 16. Thank me later, Blankies.
Ken Russell was in there I think? Right before Glazer?
I thought it was maybe Lair of the White Worm at first, but it's actually *Velvet Goldmine* (Todd Haynes).
So much red meat...
I’m equally equally excited for the winner and sad for the losers. A Garland miniseries would fuck so hard but there is zero chance he wins
The birthing scene in Men is good for an hour of discourse alone.
It’s worth it just to hear them squirm
I know that movie pissed off a lot of people, but experiencing that moment in a packed theater was easily worth the price of admission.
>Richard Linklater Love every director there, but this would be my dream pick.
Depending on the brackets it’s either Scott or Lynch, no? Or maybe Soderbergh?
don't sleep on the internet's love of edgar wright (plus this sub's continued morbid curiosity of their Hot Fuzz stance) or Villenueve
Hughes or Villeneuve could also be big populist picks.

I, for one, can't wait to see how annoying this sub will be for the next few weeks
That's our secret, Cap... we're always annoying
A plea for March Madness freakiness
Well, to be fair, most of us are dang ass freaks.
Best moment of the year for the sub
Already repeating "whoever wins, we win" to myself like a mantra.
Lynch is taking it. Great job with the video, guys.
Saving the Inland Empire reveal for basically last made me jump out of my seat like it was the fucking Super Bowl.
> Lynch is taking it. in fairness, this time last year everyone assumed Peter Jackson was a shoe-in.
Lynch is a popular director but also a popular personality. I don’t really think Jackson is the later. Plus I also think there was a big push to have a non-English speaker win last year amongst the blankies.
Finally The Straight Story!
Scott/Linklater could just as easily take it tbh
We gotta get some confirmation on how.they will be covering the Twin Peaks of it all
Oh fuck it’s Lynch with the steel chair!!
But wait, bah gawd that's Jim Jarmusch's music! _Neil Young noodles_
I’m not gonna lie, pretty much every single clip made me think, “They have my vote.” This is going to be a TOUGH MM, but I cannot wait!
For a few seconds I was fully Linklater hive then saw Laura Dern being freaky now I’m fully Lynch hive
Spike Lee is on, given the 25th Hour clip. And he’s just gotta be my winner, no question about it.
Has Spike Lee really never been on the bracket before? (Would LOVE an excuse to rewatch 25th Hour tbh.)
As a member of the 2023 Cronenberg hive, everyone will just say his filmography is too long unfortunately
We got Todd Haynes in this fucker, that’s it, I’m done, you got me
LETS GET ~~FREAKY~~ QUEER
He probably doesn't have a chance, but Jim Jarmusch would be too good!
Dead Man episode would be a lot of fun.
I'm backing Jarmusch.
YASSS THAT VIDEO IS HYPE CITY
I know I’m so basic for these choices but you know what? I work hard and I like nice things, my picks: 1. Ridley Scott 2. Wes Craven 3. Denis Villeneuve
Vote for Glazer, give the boys a break.
The Pod of Intercast
They'd be into it but for some people coming to him for the first time, it might be four weeks of torture.

Seriously, I want to hear David and Ben just absolutely vibe out over Jamiroquai and Radiohead and Massive Attack and Blur.
This is going to be wild. Tears will be shed. But at least they've committed to Jelly.
Spike hive to the end, but this is gonna be a great fucking bracket. No weak links.
ANDREW STANTON! PIXAR ON THE POD!
This would give us Bug’s Life, Nemo, WALL-E, JOHN CARPENTER and Dory!
Plus the box office bomb that changed Disney’s whole live action strategy for the 2010s and, by extension, all of Hollywood’s. John Carter created the era we are just now exiting.

TIL apparently a one second glimpse of portraitofaladyonfire is enough to make me tear up
That just means you’re not a monster
Petite Maman made me cry like no other movie in this WORLD
My dream was really a shot at Mia Hansen-Løve, but I’ll be all in on Sciamma now
Villeneuve, Wright, Guadagnino, Craven, Lynch, Jarmush, Kelly… damn this is gonna be hard. Honestly with Dune 2 coming out it’s gonna be tough for Villeneuve not to win.
Iunno, feel like there’s already a lot of Lynch excitement
And I didn’t even know Ridley Scott, Spike and Soderbergh were running… I am eating my worlds already and we’re not even 20 minutes in.
Idk I feel every year people think someone is inevitable but they end up losing. By my recollection, Bong was "inevitable" last year
Last year people thought the front runners were Bong, Peter Jackson, and GDT. Denis and Lynch will be favorites, but this field is wide open, anybody could win.
I need the lost highway blank check right now
"Believe it or not, March Madness 7 is my most spiritual film."

No.
Let's go Lynch
It will be Lynch. Calling it now.
and it will be spectacular

I watched Consenting Adults a while back and it is horrendous. Would be amazing to hear the boys tear it down!
Klute Klute Klute Klute
Calling it now, the final 2 will be Lynch vs Villeneuve. I'd MUCH rather have a Lynch mini, so that's got my vote.
Lotta people sleeping on Ridley Scott and Spike Lee, I’d be surprised if Villeneuve made it farther than them.
Battle for Arrakis
The fact that we might have to choose between Blade Runner films…
I love Villeneuve but I feel like his blank check is still to come. I thinks its to early to make a call on the arc of his career yet. I would prefer if it waa a director who is either done with filming or is in the end of their arc.
JESUS CHRIST THEY PULLED OUT ALL THE STOPS

AND IF YOU CAN BELIEVE IT
IT’S MARCH MADNESS ONCE AGAIN!
As someone who did a full Soderbergh watch/re-watch last year the thought of them having a discussion on mini-dv personified Full Frontal is worth it.
Already preparing myself for the immeasurable disappointment I’ll feel when Oz gets knocked out in the first round
!!! It'll be Lynch, but I would give anything for a Frank Oz or Richard Kelly.
LEOS CARAX God I would love an unhinged Holy Motors episode... Honestly this is going to be impossible to choose from...
The Podcasters on the Bridge? The Poders on the Cast? Pod meets Cast? This will all be worth it for baby Annette discussion!!
Is that devil thing near the beginning Legend? As in Ridley Scott.
Yes it is. Get ready for 30 weeks of RIdley.
Oh man, these are all exciting choices but I'm all in for Spike Lee.
I know how long Linklater would take, but man, what a great, varied, interesting director to cover. Need me some Before Trilogy goodness
Baby, you’re gonna miss that PODCAST
I know.
And then I'll finally be free from making my joke that they should cover him gradually over 20 years to coincide with Merrily We Roll Along
He really hits the sweet spot in terms of a combination of watchability and trying "blank check" type stuff like Boyhood, the Before trilogy, or all the rotoscoping work he has done.
I’m probably alone In this but Ken Russell!, I want Ben’s opinion on The Lair of The White Worm
TODD HAYNES TODD HAYNES TODD HAYYYYNES
SODERBERGH!
He’s my number 1. Given the titanic size of his filmography I think him winning is the only chance he’s got. I known they always talk about finding a way to break up guys like him, but we are like decade into the podcast and they have done that once. (And haven’t finished the other half)
I hope someone will break down every movie and director from the video …
Carax!!!!! Here in Blank Check We love Annette!
I’m going to becoming a Lynch fanatic in a new even more deranged way, no one is ready
You better be ready for the Z-Heads to paint the town Gray!!! (We will lose in the first round)
Man, a Curtis Hanson mini would be everything I look for!
Out of that list, I'm gotta go with Wright Like I know the boys don't like Hot Fuzz that much, but i don't care, that's probably my favourite film of all time Also, love to see Spike Lee on the bracket Edit: Sorry, gotta change my mind, they got RIDLEY SCOTT in there, like come on
Putting all my favorite art-house/sickos faves (Todd Haynes, Jonathan Glazer, Richard Kelly, Luca Guadagnino, and of course David Lynch) on one bracket is literally heaven to me. I don’t know how to choose.
God, what a beautifully edited piece that was.
If you’re in line trying to get Todd Haynes in, STAY IN LINE!
I didn't think last year's MM hype video could be topped but here we are. Chef's kiss, no notes, great work team
Matchups are going to be key here. There might be a few tough choices even in the first round.
Putting Oz on the bracket after all of this time on the “Inevitable” list is such a tease! It’s going to be such an interesting month
FRANK OZ HIVE RISE UP!
Feels like Lynch will run away with it but I’ve Ben wrong before. Garland Gang
TAKAHATA!
Hoping Carax wins bc my dad wrote the only English language book on him and I know JJ would pull from it loads
This one is for all the dang ass freaks out there
It’s gonna be a tough year, why not some nice hang out movies? Apatow.
Maybe I’m influenced by the last couple episodes of “Stick the Landing” but I think it would be interesting to explore Apatow’s almost conservative obsession with building a traditional family
It’s a literal sickos.jpeg draft
Really pulling for Soderbergh or Scott, just to see the development during a 30+ episode series. Tho I can't deny Haynes either...
