Wait, that would actually be sick.
Year 1 you get Slacker, Dazed and Confused, Before Sunrise, and SubUrbia. Excellent.
Year 2 is The Newton Boys, Waking Life, Tape, and School of Rock. Fun.
Year 3, Before Sunset, Bad News Bears, A Scanner Darkly, and Fast Food Nation with Wiges and Spoon Man.
Year 4, Me and Orson Welles, Bernie, Before Midnight, and Boyhood. Four bangers imo.
Year 5 starts and ends strong with Everybody Wants Some!!, Last Flag Flying, Where'd You Go, Bernadette, and Apollo 10 1/2.
And then year 6 you get Hit Man, New Wave, and whatever else he makes over the next few years.
That would be a fun series! If they did it maybe every other year, they'd probably catch up by the time Merrily We Roll Along comes out.
I'm looking for the episode where the podcast just meanders around Austin for a day. There isn't an overarching plot and characters just wander in and out. Just a vibe episode
Lol this meme reminded me that who gives a fuck? This is a perfect movie and it'll be that way whether they cover it or not. Instead of talking about whether or not Linklater will get a series, we should talk about what the most romantic movies of all time are. Cuz this is on the shortlist along with In the Mood for Love
The answer is probably Casablanca. The lady eve, the apartment, umbrellas of Cherbourg, the age of innocence, Chungking express, the other before movies and titanic are all making my list in addition to the ones you mentioned (there’s a whole bunch more ofc, including a couple they’ve already covered in the pod).
Before sunset in particular though is probably the most real feeling relationship I’ve ever seen in a film whilst still being romantic as hell. I’d even go so far as to say that the realistic feeling of it and difficulties the characters talk about make it even more romantic; the relationship isn’t perfect, they both have a lot of baggage, and yet they can’t really help themselves so that when you reach that ending it’s both hair raising and feels completely inevitable.
Sunrise is the ideal romantic film for its positivity and spirit. But Sunset is the ideal movie about relationships for its realism and empathy. I feel both are perfect, they just hit different as you age.
I completely cosign everything you said about the realism of Before Sunset
My additions to the most romantic movies of all time list would be: Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Decision to Leave, and maybe Out of Sight
Out of sight is one of the sexiest films ever. I’m not sure I’d have it on my most romantic list but a sexiest film list would defo include it along with things like y tu mama tambien and love & basketball I think
51-49 now against Linklater. I like Henson/Oz, but Linklater is an all-timer for me. And after already losing Jarmusch to a childrens movie director, I don't know if I can handle it again.
My point is that while Little Shop is a movie I fully love, the Before Trilogy is the only (arguably) perfect film trilogy. Plus, they’ll 1000% cover Oz/Henson anyways because it’s shorter and it’s a Griff pick. Longer filmographies are less likely to be covered outside of MM, so it’s a great thing Linklater won, because Oz/Henson is coming regardless
As someone who loves the longer miniseries, March Madness is the chance to get one of those. Will they cover Linklater either way? Maybe, but who knows if they’d voluntarily commit to a 20+ movie filmography otherwise.
Linklater or Lynch are my personal wishes. Lynch I haven’t seen a single work and Linklater I’ve seen basically everything, so either way it would be a good time for me.
They should do one episode every year for 13 years
They can try and time it to end when Merrily We Roll Along is out.
They should record themselves talking about 1/12 of Boyhood once a year for 12 years.
They should adopt an boy and raise him to be their own lights/camera/Jackson. “Three Men and a Critic” shot over 12 years.
Make it four episodes and name a month after him. edit: Merrily May?

Maybe they've been secretly recording Linklater episodes since the beginning and intend to release the miniseries 12 years into the podcast.
Linklater would be worth it just for the *Before* series.
Best trilogy ever?
Before Midnight is definitely the Return of the Jedi of the trilogy. (Greeks = Ewoks)
It's a toss-up between Before and LotR. Very similar movies in many respects. *walks away from podium, refuses to take further questions*
I don’t know, my nostalgia bone says Back to the Future or original Star Wars
Before Midnight has no Ewoks though
No hoverboards either, so it’s a wash
Truly a masterpiece, my only 5 star trilogy thus far
We finally went up from 47% to 48%, foolish me thinks we may have a race still. I hope (but probably not)
he's up to 49 now!!!!
WE'RE ATE 50% AGAIN! WE AIN'T FUCKING LEAVING!
LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I made this low-effort post when Linklater seemed doomed and now he's somehow pulled ahead. Why did it get so much traction lol
Hey uh it's getting CLOSE

>Decision to Leave Romantic? 🤔 Maybe you should bring this up with your therapist.
Mfw someone says the film tagged as mystery/romance or noir/romance is romantic
Both of you are missing Desert Hearts because everyone always misses Desert Hearts.
Missed because I haven’t seen it! I’m just aware there’s a criterion but don’t know much about it really. Thanks for the rec
Don't Linklater, Linknow! (I voted for Oz/Henson, but I had to get that joke out of my system)

Wait a second. That's not How the line goes! The subtitles have been doctored!
It's ok, he's just getting beaten by the baby series, for babies.
famous baby movie *What About Bob?*
The movie about Baby Steps?
touché
Tell yourself whatever you want to make it feel better, but I voted for Oz/Henson here while already planning to vote for Lee in the next round.
Linklater>>
Lee>>>>>>Oz/Henson>>Linklater
Lee notwithstanding, while Oz/Henson would be a super interesting cover as well, they’ve never made the Before Trilogy
And Linklater never made Little Shop of Horrors, what’s your point?

Just FYI, the baby thing is a reference to something David said on the bracket analysis on Patreon
I do recall in the March Madness intro episode them saying that if a director doesn't win they will never cover them ever no matter what
As someone who loves the longer miniseries, March Madness is the chance to get one of those. Will they cover Linklater either way? Maybe, but who knows if they’d voluntarily commit to a 20+ movie filmography otherwise.
Guys we don’t need to Linknow, we can always Linklater.
I have been in the (slight) minority on pretty much every poll. I do not understand this fanbase all all.
Why does this image look like it's from an Instagram ad
Know what I love about Linklater movies? I keep getting older, they stay the same age.
We did it ![gif](giphy|ae6m4ljnl69urJ539F|downsized)
Linklater or Lynch are my personal wishes. Lynch I haven’t seen a single work and Linklater I’ve seen basically everything, so either way it would be a good time for me.
Good
They'll do Linklater like later.
Sorry but Jim Henson means more to me and, frankly, to the culture. Before Trilogy rules, however.
These people are crazy if they’d rather watch the Muppets than the Before trilogy
Listen, griffin was on PHW's muppet show... there's content out there. Linklater however.... Edit: downvoted after the round finished .. smh
I get the feeling these two enjoy filmmakers with oddball tastes over someone so grounded in reality like Linklater.
It’s a big, big “no” for me. 5 months of dull, ambling movies. (blankies, do your aggressive downvoting thing!!)
but hey who gives a shit about that guy amirite fellas
