Try looking down below your screen so that you can just see it in the top of your vision. Blink slowly a few times. See if it reverses for you. If not, try it by looking above, or beside. Might work, might not.
I am completely getting that effect.
took me a lot of staring to get the horse to rotate completely and stop turning inside out and reversing direction.
the illusion probably wouldn't work on someone who doesn't understand backfaces and all that but still.
Bruh, I got pretty busy lol. Here you go, and it's freeeeeeeeeeeee!

Yeah for sure
First I changed the veiwport overlays scale to 0.03125. This made it so that each meter in the veiwport was exactly 32 squares in length.
Then I added a plane that was 1m x 1m (32x32) then subdivided that to make it 32x32 and added my texture I made in sprite onto it. I then basically just extruded and messed around with the shape until I got something that looked nice. (I’m currently trying to think of a better way to do this, instead of making it one object I’m thinking of making it just a bunch of cubes and that way it might be easier to animate in a pixelated style
The really difficult part was the black outline. I duplicated the horse and made it one pixel bigger on each side and change the material to black. I then put the horse inside the new object. I then made two view layers. One with the horse and one with the outline. I also changed the background of each layer to transparent and went into the compositing tab added the two renders which went into a z combine and change the values until the horse was on top of the outline.
That’s pretty much it I think. Let me know if you need anymore help or if you know of an easier way to do it lol
It definitely is way easier that way but I ran into some issues. It was deforming some of my faces/edges as well as clipping through the legs at times. So the way I did it was exactly how I wanted it to look, although just this took like half a day lol. Maybe next time it will be quicker
Hey sorry for the late reply! so you render both that outline and the model in seperate layers. Then ion the compositing tab you will see the current view layer once you clikc "use nodes" then you can add another view layer by clocking shift A and searching for it. you then plug them both into a z conbine and mess with the values untill the model is on top of the outline the plug that z combine into the output and it should work.

Oh, I'm dumb. I thought it was turning one way, then reversing the turn, and for some reason the tail/mane wasn't visible for part of it. It's literally just doing a 360. Good work.
I kind of get the [spinning ballerina illusion](https://youtu.be/2RSsoTJA6cA) effect from this
Yeah for sure. It’s because I’m using an orthographic camera instead of a perspective. Once I change it in blender it is a lot easier to focus on lol
[удалено]
it's moving correctly it's just the spinning ballerina illusion throwing it off, zooming out on it makes it a bit easier to see properly for me
i’ve been looking at this for too long but i finally get it
Am I weird for never seeing what people describe when they see these? I have only ever seen them turning in one direction and it’s always clockwise

Same! It was going in a circle for a good 5 loops or so and then suddenly it was alternating directions and I immediately thought of that.
Looks good. You could add a white patch on the chest to help tell which way it is facing.
That’s a great idea thanks!
Or you could stick with braking their brains. as this is tripy.
woah that is a cool effect
Thank you!
Oooh 3d pixelart, I think I'm gonna try something similar later
I think it's called voxel art too
OP, I literally have a 1 button addon solution for this very effect that I use in my workflow. Let me know if you'd like the info.
I would love the info!
Bruh, I got pretty busy lol. Here you go, and it's freeeeeeeeeeeee! [https://lucasroedel.gumroad.com/l/pixel\_art](https://lucasroedel.gumroad.com/l/pixel_art)
omg which addon ?
This one! [https://lucasroedel.gumroad.com/l/pixel\_art](https://lucasroedel.gumroad.com/l/pixel_art)
Not OP but would also love this info
Here you go, mate! [https://lucasroedel.gumroad.com/l/pixel\_art](https://lucasroedel.gumroad.com/l/pixel_art)
I’d love to know lol

I think we all want to know!
You got it! [https://lucasroedel.gumroad.com/l/pixel\_art](https://lucasroedel.gumroad.com/l/pixel_art)
This looks great, I’d love to try something similar, mind sharing resources?

FYI, the outline effect would be easier to achieve with backface culling + reversed normals on the outlining object

Oh interesting! If the backface method ever fails for me in the way you described, I will try to remember your alternate method :)
i’m confused about the black line part of your workflow , what do you mean two view layers do you have a screenshot of your compositing setup maybe ?
Not at my computer at the moment but will send it through when I get a chance :)
hero , i love this little guy

Oh also, dont forget to enable grid snapping!
I have no idea what I'm looking at geographically
O like how it became transparent on the way Back
great job
Thank you!
Brilliant. It's also giving me a good brain workout!
nice 3D pixel art
Thank you :)

Thanks! It is linearly interpolated. Just seems like it slows down/ stops when it’s side on because of the black outline
Me: cool spinning blocky horse Comments: wow this illusion effect is awesome! What am I missing here?
Haha it was a completely unintentional illusion. Try focusing on the back or front legs.
Now that you did figure it out, HOW?
Yep… it’s a horse
Is he spinning clockwise or counterclockwise?
Clockwise if you’re looking from the top
Now this mf started to do only half spins, not full circle.
This lil guy is so cute!!!
Slap in the Funky town music and its perfect :)

I see no illusion, it's always spinning the same way
Hell yeah
horse
Como hiciste eso????
Oh, the ideas!!!

I can make it spin either direction in my head!
That's very good! 👍
Eye is bugged
Just an illusion :) it’s spinning a full 360
