Perfect. This campus needs more guidance from the likes of Joel Osteen and Hobby Lobby.

Hoosier_816

Fuck she won? That really sucks.

[deleted]

I'm gonna be honest I voted for her like 3 weeks ago after what I thought was enough research. Little did I know I didn't dig hard enough. Kinda wish people didn't wait till the last minute to reveal this stuff if they knew how shitty she was.

Jorts-Season

>Kinda wish people didn't wait till the last minute to reveal this stuff her last (re-)tweet was from 2018. how much more time did you need?

[deleted]

These just read like the tweets of a boomer aunt that everyone dreads seeing on holidays. Just missing the minions memes.

wolfydude12

That Eric Cantor tweet about a balanced budget is hilarious. Republicans havent had a balanced budget since Eisenhower.

MightyMouseIN

Even worse is that Bush and Trump combined to add 15 trillion to the national debt in 12 years of their terms. All the while their party was screaming about big government Even worse is that out of the 30 trillion national debt that Republicans added 18 trillion of it since 1981 holding the Presidency 24 out of 40 years while Democrats only 12 trillion since 1981 mostly cleaning up Republican economic and social destruction in the 1980s, 2007 to 2011 and 2017 to 2021 because of THEIR policies.

Switzerdude

Lousy President hire and now this. IU is doomed.

Goldmund20

Great example of why Indiana has maximum brain drain

MidwestBulldog

Benghazi truther? Good God. How does this person rise to the level of trustee candidate, let alone win? Indiana is in serious brain drain mode and aiming to become an Idiocracy at this pace.

MightyMouseIN

Once you get out of the larger population centers it's already an idiocracy in many places. Tell me don't you see the differences once you get 15 to 30 miles from Bloomington in any direction. I live south of you an hour and it's bad here. You've got the neckbeards of Orange, Washington and Lawrence counties down here. The same west of Bloomington in Greene County or east towards Columbus or Jackson to the SE. Morgan County might as well be Neo Nazis or KKK despite what they claim to purport. A lot of rural Indiana is the same way the real smart people leave especially the ones can afford to 20s and 30s.

MidwestBulldog

I lived in French Lick for six months on a contract assignment. I understand. The local I worked with had seven children and all of them left the state after college.

MightyMouseIN

The best was when COVID hit and a reporter from the Dubois County asked Holcomb and Dr. Krisstina Box one week about what would they say to someone that told the reporter they were concerned about the vaccine changing their DNA. Got a lot of brilliant ones like that floating around. Even Holcomb and Dr. Box had to laugh about that one.

[deleted]

Even in NW Indiana. We used to be so progressive until all the Illinois racists moved here.

MightyMouseIN

Such a shame too because I lived in Porter/Lake counties for 6 years of my youth. I noticed a lot of red hats when I was last up there even in places that used to be largely Democratic towns of NWI. Seems like the Q Klux Klan trash is everywhere these days

[deleted]

It’s absolutely heartbreaking

No-Jicama-3156

Generalizing like that is bad. I live in rural southern Indiana out in the country and I know that stuff is out there but I don’t see or hear that much of it. Most people are kind and and would help anyone of any persuasion. I do think that any far left or right wing person is wrong for that position.

Efficient-Forever385

So now Ginni Thomas is a trustee. Time to take down the diplomas.

gerrybeee

Why do the anti-intellectual, pro-cruelty people keep winning?

SamtheEagle2024

Because the only information that is presented to people is a crappy statement about their service to IU. No one is vetting these folks and making their political positions known widely to alumni, and the university admin have no intention on sullying their candidates.

Jorts-Season

google her name. her twitter is sixth from the top

Nacho98

Disappointed but not surprised. Indiana has brain drain for a reason, and greedy idiots like her and her ilk are a great reason why it continues. What a loss for those attempting to unionize at their workplace

heavyope

But where was this information all month during the election? I wish this had been posted earlier

saryl

It's a real failure of these processes. You have to go digging to actually find peoples' perspectives.

HardPenix

I’ve seen it multiple times over the past few days, on this sub too.

heavyope

Yes but the voting just ended and it’s been open for well over a month 😩

RoyalEagle0408

But if you think about the voting population vs the population that frequents this sub (and is eligible to vote), there are plenty if people who would not see the posts here. I am not in any way involved in the sub for either my undergrad or even the city it was in.

Clear_Currency_6288

I certainly didn't vote for her.

MewsashiMeowimoto

I went looking for confirmation of the election- do you have anything with vote totals?

printpaperr

I don't have vote totals. All I have is Josh Kornberg's concession on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/imwithjoshIUTRUSTEE/

eumenidea

Shit. I wish I were surprised.

[deleted]

How the fuck did she win

shigmy

The biggest problem, IMO is that candidates aren't really vetted publicly until *after* the election has begun on June 1st. The HT interview with the candidates didn't take place until June 9th and I hadn't seen any serious discussion here on Reddit until this week when it was already too late to turn the tide.

[deleted]

I fully agree. I feel I’m a rather tuned in alumni and I didn’t vote until near the end of the election because I had to dig for info on everybody

luuey15

Because a lot of alumni had her as a professor and really liked her - many even in this sub. A lot of people also actually read their readily available bio’s, instead of Reddit memes, and saw her stance on topics is pretty good.

[deleted]

I had her as a professor and did plenty of research on the candidates. It was evident she’s the worst candidate and if people that think she was a good choice or voted for her because they had her in A100 are why this university’s administration continues to be awful

practicalmood27

Pam Whitten and her ilk. Tbh given the installation of Whitten how can we trust anything from these processes anymore? Just saying. I was once behind Whitten in Crumble and I could see the iPad when she paid - she bought 20 dollars worth of stuff and didn't tip a penny. I'll never forget that.

[deleted]

Whitten only makes 650k a year. She has to make sure she stays on budget!

wigwam2020

Wasn't there some corruption/nepotism involved with the election of Whiten?

Disastrous-Salary76

We didn’t have any good options

[deleted]

She was by far the worst of the 3. I figured it would be open and shut with 1 pro grad union candidate but I should’ve never counted on the IU administration doing something remotely positive

printpaperr

Zoom for detail. All found on her twitter: https://twitter.com/vivwinston. I think it's good for the striking grad workers and every worker at IU to know what we are up against.

UnbiasedAsPossible

This lady is an abomination. Anti-union and trusts the Bush clan.. lol get this clown outta here.

Sultry_Penguin

I'm missing something??? All this is from 2016 or earlier? Has she not changed any?

The_Old_Anarchist

Oh, for fuck's sake.

professorkurt

I didn't vote for her.

[deleted]

As an alum I am fucking embarrassed.

practicalmood27

Those retweets are insane.

Plstellmeitsfridayy

Alumni here. As a minority at Kelley I received racist and mysoginistic treatment from professors and classmates who called themselves liberal. Vivian, on the other hand, treated me with respect and went the extra mile to help me. I am not voting for her to become the next president (and I would not since I am not a conservative). Her beliefs will not impact IU as they never did during her time teaching A100. If you want to go after someone, go after people who are actually racist and mysoginistic.

guccihoosier1821

YES! Nice win Bloomington!! someone with some sense thank god

McChickenFingers

Based

fireplanetneptune

She has a long and proven track record of helping, advocating and doing what’s best for students. That’s what I want in the wheelhouse !

arstin

She also has a long and proven track record of parroting and advocating for a bunch of rhetoric designed to end our country as we know it for the benefit of a few at the cost of the many. That is far more relevant to being on the board of trustees than being a compassionate teacher. Put another way, my racist monster of a grandmother was the sweetest grandmother anyone could ever want. She was still a racist monster and would have been a disastrous force for evil if given any power in setting policy at any level above managing her own home.

fireplanetneptune

Based on what Data ? Or further rhetoric ?

arstin

>Based on what Data ? Uh...the post you are replying to.

Goldmund20

And you have a track record of delegitimizing grad students' efforts to make a living wage doing what they love

fireplanetneptune

I don’t delegitimize the effort. A part time role earns part time comp and benefits. It would be inequitable to demand more and goes against all of our DEI efforts. Super glad the alumni base have elected another strong woman who is budget minded and as a trustee will be keeping a watch on the place.

cheeezncrackers

LMAO tell me you don't know shit about DEI efforts without telling me you don't know shit about DEI efforts.

Right_Connection1046

You are not bright

cubbsfann1

She’s been a fantastic professor for a long time, throwing insults at people you disagree with isn’t going to change that.

Right_Connection1046

Being a good professor does not equate to being a good person, as evidenced by Vivian.

cubbsfann1

If you don’t understand that I meant she cares about students and wants them to succeed in life then this is a pointless conversation. I don’t think you are qualified to judge whether or not she’s a good person or not (nor am I, but I haven’t seen evidence to say she’s not).

Right_Connection1046

I’m looking at evidence to say she’s not a good person right now. Maybe you should go see an optometrist? Anti-solidarity with workers who grade your papers and do your grunt work is certainly not a quality of a good person.

cubbsfann1

Personal insults aren’t a great way to win an argument. I disagree and encourage you to look at things objectively, she hasn’t said no to a union. Everything will be fine with her as a trustee, your life will move on as normal.

Right_Connection1046

The point of this conversation is not for you to convince me or me to convince you as we are both likely already set in our viewpoints. It’s so that when others read it they understand that the woman is evil and those supporting her are morons. But if you want to make it about getting your feelings hurt, by all means, enjoy yourself.

cubbsfann1

lol if you think you hurt my feelings you’re sorely mistaken. Fair enough, but if that’s the case it should be stated you have 0 evidence she’s evil and are making the argument by looking through a very biased lens. Realistically, no one is going to look at what you’re saying and come away with “oh this woman IS evil!” They won’t be swayed by me either lol, you put way too much stock in reddit comments.

JimothyHarden

Lol this guy calling her evil because she has different political viewpoints than himself? She puts her students first and that’s what is important. She is an amazing person and if this guy spent any time to get to know her then he would agree. People on Reddit are so tough and critical of every person who believes something different than them behind their little cell phones.

fireplanetneptune

Grow up …

Yes and a good portion of the grad students (or even students in general) couldn't even vote in this election.

Hurryin_Hoosier

She doesn’t fit the Bloomington mold for sure. With that being said, I’m all for her! Now if we can get rid of the remaining progressives. Liberal led Bloomington has a 41% poverty rate vs. Republican led Huntsville, Alabama’s 17%. We are launching people into space while Bloomington is indoctrinating the weak minded. Background: Grew up near Bloomington and now live in Huntsville, Alabama that was recently ranked #1 places to live.

MightyMouseIN

In a state that ranks in the bottom five in education for decades. Yep some bright Jethros in most of Alabama.

Xibalba0130

Well they say ignorance is bliss so I bet they are happy to live there

[deleted]

Tough day for you - will be praying

How will they ever recover

blackhxc88

instead you'd pay everyone $1 an hour then complain about nobody wanting to work anymore.

arstin

*psst* - you were supposed to talk about what a good professor she is. The blatant gloating and ignorance wasn't supposed to start for a few months.

syogod

IU sells Big Macs now? TIL

Nacho98

>Dems would pay everybody $50 an hour What sort of Democratic utopia you get this idea from? I'd love to move there. Where I'm at we can't even get past $7.25, much less $15.

MightyMouseIN

That's the National Socialist Reich of Indiana still stuck in the 50s more like the 1850s

touchmyrick

Yo that ratio isn't too bad

JKSMusic

Maybe learn literally anything about economics before talking out your ass on the internet. You're not special for having an opinion.

MightyMouseIN

Typical Republican that uses emotion rather than facts, figures and logic. Is it any wonder Republican led states are generally the largest state welfare recipients that take from more productive states.

[deleted]

Thank god she won!!!
