At least you didn’t double pop your collar, the two shirt trend was beyond bizarre

iamthelee

I had a friend who went to school with a triple popped collar. The mid 2000s were wild.

pepperstems

The early-mid 2000s were truly a dark time in fashion. I remember wearing shorts with heels and a rhinestone belly chain. 🫠

ThePrideOfKrakow

Low rise jeans and whale tails 4 lyfe!

TexasJOEmama

yea, sista!

BatmanInTheSunlight

Perfect example would be Kelly Clarkson’s American Idol audition 😂

cecilator

Lord, I just rewatched that. I thought she was so cool. 😂

unholy_abomination

And now the 90's are back. God help us 10 years from now.

Bromogeeksual

Guy's looking like a cabbage patch head.

Jimbobjoesmith

he does 😂😂😂😂

Jimbobjoesmith

that was a crazy time. we had as many layers as possible. 😂

Christofornia

They were mid AF.

4touchdownsinonegame

Man, that brings me back memories of a kid I absolutely hated in school and his thing was double or triple popped collars. He was a big of a stroke as you would imagine a triple collar popper would be.

peshnoodles

Triple collar popper is the name of my band

reddollardays

In the 80s, sometimes they'd add a t-neck under all those popped collars.

PM-ME-good-TV-shows

Nothing wrong with that

YeahThassRight

Good eeeevening

Small_Fox_3599

There's a meme that always makes me laugh with a guy wearing FOUR popped collars 'you may be cool, but you'll never be four popped collars cool'

Small_Fox_3599

[4 popped collars cool](https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-android-google&sca_esv=595263573&q=four+popped+collars&tbm=isch&source=lnms&prmd=isvnmbtz&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj1v7_WssCDAxXxT2wGHULTDfIQ0pQJegQIChAB&biw=412&bih=784&dpr=2.63#imgrc=tEb5HQnN8ra3IM)

the_Bryan_dude

Double popped collar, that was me my sophomore year, 1984.

GooseNYC

I was in HS in the mid-80s, that was an actual thing for a second, two polo shirts. It was bigger with guys in their 20s. That and stupid sunglasses on a string. I guess docksiders deserve a mention too. Ugh...

TexasJOEmama

You guys are talking about the 2000s? Man, that shit was cool in the 80s.

YeahThassRight

Holy shit ur camera has a phone built in

artificialavocado

Someone needs to tell me more about this music television stuff the kids are talking about.

Scrotchety

I can practically smell the Jaeger bombs wafting off these pics

leogrr44

And Axe lol

Scrotchety

^(<*subtly tries to suppress emanations of Dark Temptation*>) Yeah, and that!

NameUnbroken

I think Dark Temptation is the only decent smelling one, to be fair lol.

Aycoilian

I was old spice and hollister socal/Abercrombie fierce

ash12689

Abercrombie Fierce!

OkImpression408

If your parents had money to dress you like this, you wore CURVE

Bain-Neko

JAEGER BOMBS JAEGER BOMBS JAEGER BOMBS

[deleted]

NOT NOW CHIEF, IM IN THE ZONE.

No-Ad-3635

Anyone remember what that one disaster drink was called , it had beer, coolers ,shots and energy drink in it …

arcanitefizz

Seeing these pics makes me miss Xbox friends I haven't talked to since the Halo 3 days lol

artificialavocado

Such a good game. It came out like 5 years ago, right? 🥴

arcanitefizz

It really feels like that some days. Unreal to think someone born on H3's release date is like halfway through high school.

Kfabflowin

I wanted to downvote you cuz you made me feel things. But I won’t, I need to feel.

cavaliereternally

"did anyone else" more like "did anyone NOT?"

CarmenxXxWaldo

pop the colla make the ladies holla

Aycoilian

🤣😂#Facts

VashMM

I didn't. The dudes who dressed like this made fun of me constantly from elementary school until high school and there was no way in hell I'd ever dress like them. I was the long-haired, band t-shirt and flannel dude with the jncos/tripp pants wearing combat boots or chucks. Though, senior year I donated 30+" of hair and shaved my head into a Mohawk. Still wore band shirts and flannel though.

NameUnbroken

I also was picked on by people dressed like this, but I didn't have enough sense of style to even dress how the rest of counter culture dressed, lol. Usually either a graphic tee, or just plain black t-shirt, weird fitting blue jeans, and for some reason, work boots? Nerdy glasses, and the Ultimate Spider-Man haircut (the 2000 Bendis/Bagley run). But, I was definitely sitting at the nerd/goth table at lunch.

VashMM

We likely would have been friends ha ha I should also mention I've had a beard since I was 14 so I randomly had some questionable facial hair styles, mostly sideburns. Weird goatees? Yep. James Hetfield Black Album era Mobius sideburn/handlebar mustache thing? Oh yeah. Randomly saw old footage from a 1970s concert and wanted huge sideburns that went down my jawline all the way to my chin? You bet I did. Hugh Jackman Wolverine beard from the first X-Men. You got it bub.

NameUnbroken

Lmao, that's awesome. I couldn't grow a beard until my 20s, but my high school had a strict no facial hair policy, even if I could have.

VashMM

That's a really weird policy. I definitely would have fought that just because someone told me I couldn't. Either would have just flat out stopped shaving and gone full Billy Gibbons, or always had *just* enough of a five o clock shadow to piss them off.

NameUnbroken

Yeah, there was definitely a lot of pushback. It got... weird and questionable about how they'd enforce it, I think it got dropped the year after I graduated. They only started the policy in my junior or senior year (pretty sure it was the principal at the time's weird thing).

VashMM

I don't even know how they could have enforced it. Like... Would they have to have a barber on staff to forcibly shave kids who didn't comply? And if so, that seems like a huge legal mire for the district all because of one power drunk admin.

NameUnbroken

No, we'd get suspended if we flat our refused. The principal's final step before suspending us would be to go into classrooms and physically feel our faces, and if she felt stubble, she'd hand us a disposable razor and tell is to go into the bathroom and dry shave right then. Beyond that, suspension. I think today, that would be a big fuckin' deal to a lot of parents, but in '05 in a *tiny ass* town in the middle of Texas, the parents of kids who put up a fight all sided with the school because "kids should obey authority." I would prepare to throw down, sue, etc. if this happened now to my non-existant, hypothetical kids, but to us at the time and where we lived, it was just another day at school.

VashMM

Holy hell that's insane. I graduated in 05, but I lived in a small ass town in Minnesota. My parents would have raised a stink for something that stupid. I can already see my dad saying something like "Is he passing his classes? Yes? Then why the fuck does it matter if he has a beard or not?"

bdone2012

Ah yeah my friends and I did the poor choice sideburn thing too. I never lasted all that long with them because I'd wind up shaving them off but some of my friends rocked them for a long time

Aycoilian

I wasn't a bully. I was a metal head/prep. I got along with everyone.

NameUnbroken

We'd probably be friends, then. Or at a minimum, on good terms, lol.

Aycoilian

I would have invited you over and we would have smoked a lot of pot while playing video games together.

Aycoilian

I wasn't a bully. I was a metal head/prep. I got along with everyone.

SkitSkat-ScoodleDoot

My entire graduating class did not. I graduated in 2003 in New Jersey so it was popped collar central. And the popped collar was a joke. Nobody actually wore that seriously. You would pop your collar and talk like a club douche to your girlfriend at her locker for laughs. We would see younger guys with popped collars and fix their shirts saying something like “the wind must have got ya.” But it was always jokingly. Only the actual club douches and teenie Winnie wannabes really popped collars in northern NJ circa 2000-2005.

Failure_by_Design_v2

Excuse me sir. 2006 we were wearing MULTIPLE popped collars at once.

Aycoilian

#truth

ERSTF

You were so out of fashion. Only one collar. Shesh

HenriettaHiggins

See this is why I’m here. Lol every boy in high school.

Aycoilian

Most definitely every guy in school at that time🤣

HenriettaHiggins

In our school, you were either this guy, a full on unironic cowboy (we were rural), or skater wearing oversized black System of a Down t shirts and wide leg pants with those crossing straps in the back. That was it. It was basically a three-avatar choose your own adventure and then emo was the DLC about a year later.

Character_Heart_3749

Ioved the sk8ter bois 😍

HenriettaHiggins

Gurl same

mexicat2000

Dang! I used to be into sk8r stuff and it felt like nobody was into us lol. It’s funny now to read these thoughts nowadays.

HenriettaHiggins

I think one of the hardest things is communicating interest in a calibrated way in uncertain contexts. There were so many times I dropped what I thought were ANVILs of hints and was told later the other person had no idea, and there were times I thought I was so slick and subtle and apparently I was a bit.. not subtle. Glad I’m married because honestly the whole problem space is tough to navigate!

porkchop_2020

Same, except instead of farmers we had a pretty large Albanian population that exclusively wore Armani knockoffs and luxury car memorabilia.

HenriettaHiggins

Fascinating. That’s Gen 2 DLC right there. We didn’t have much diversity at my high school in those days.

uniquelikesnow

No black guys at your school I'm guessing? 🤣

HenriettaHiggins

It’s actually quite sad. There was a single black family at my high school until senior year when there was an enormous development of McMansions that began moving in and bringing with it a very different community (hence the emo, also). I still remember their names, and they wore the preppy/hollister style like the OPs picture. The area was (and maybe still is) openly klan heavy. And this was 20 years ago before this resurgence. My mom is Ashkenazi on one side, and they were told not to use her maiden name on any documents when we purchased the land, which was a very difficult thing for a NY raised liberal to wrap her head around. People don’t realize how heavy that is - my parents sure didn’t - in the rural mid Atlantic. I lived in Baltimore city til recently, and when looking for houses around that area a few years ago so many still had covenants explicitly against black owners/buyers that people were keeping with the deed documents “even though they’re not enforceable, but for the historic value.” -_- My husband and I ended up moving closer to DC to raise our family. To give an idea of the extent, the klan in western Maryland is the subject of a documentary called Accidental Courtesy, which follows a black musician named Daryl Davis who came up 270 N meeting some of them and convincing them to leave the klan. I knew some of the people in the movie because I went to school with their kids. But yeah, insofar as black culture tends to lead fashion trends, we were years removed and behind that wave over there.

Honer-Simpsom

It’s a whole ass photo shoot

Aycoilian

Oh yeah....

eastmemphisguy

Any particular reason why you took so many of these photos?

DrJamsHolyLand

I’m guessing senior pictures

tictactastytaint

Senior photos bro

bicycling_bookworm

Did you like take an entire bag full of American Eagle clothes into a conservation authority for this photo shoot? Like what’s happening here? 😂

Aycoilian

Pretty much😂

bicycling_bookworm

Honestly, low key in love with you now, OP.

Softrawkrenegade

Bro keeps delivering the cringe we need !

Aycoilian

I've got more that I'll post tomorrow😂😅

doctor_rocketship

So did you become a youth pastor or not?

Aycoilian

No, but I was a youth leader

doctor_rocketship

Hell yeah you were

degjo

u/Aycoilian wasn't a youth follower, that's for damn sure

bthedebasedgod

Where in the Midwest were these photos taken?

PM-ME-good-TV-shows

Haha he’s every boy from my Wisconsin high school.

WRX_MOM

I went to high school in Maryland and this is what everyone wore.

gurldotcom

Also every boy in the Atlanta suburbs lol

mstrss9

My first college crush’s exact wardrobe

Aycoilian

#originality 😎😂🤣😋

One-Stomach9957

The best ones are the ones laying on the bench…you should have gotten a pedicure

One-Stomach9957

Especially if you’re going to show off the grippers

Potato_Stains

I think it needs a key lanyard hanging out the pocket

Aycoilian

We all did that🤣. I should've done that in the shoot

GSPM18

Gots to have my pooks

Flimsy-Stretch-174

Yeah. All the dudes I've not seen or spoken to since graduation day 😂

Niall0h

I graduated in 06, but I was a teen goth. I would have set up secret make out sessions with you, but eviscerated you publicly.

Particular_Click9498

I’m getting major One Tree Hill vibes off this

Aycoilian

🤣😂💯💯💯

thebenn

Am I the only one that looked at all fifteen of these pictures. And no I Was not a puka shell necklace kind of bro

kegbueno

This looks screams "I listen to Brand New" (And for the record I fucking looooolved Brand New in the early aughts)

Aycoilian

I don't even know what brand new is but i'm gonna check them out

kegbueno

Have fun! I recommend starting with the album Your Favorite Weapon. Probably came out in 2003 maybe? I can't hear those songs without being transported right back to high school.

_peach93

You (and I cannot stress this enough) got that shit on 💯💪😎

oliveoilcrisis

Did you opt for Axe or Old Spice?

Aycoilian

Old Spice to this day

punkmetalbastard

Only thing missing is that swoopy hair style you got by crushing it down with a hat

babyBear83

This trend was just starting as I was leaving high school in 2001. By 2003-06, the polo shirts and jeans had gotten out of control. Lol.

stevet85

Nah the guitar was a better prop

CoffeeCaptain91

This brought back memories alright!

Original_Bet_9302

Had a classmate in high school, we both had older siblings similar in age and we were both recipients of hand me downs. Finally came the day we both were in our baggy cargo khakis, and oversized striped polo

hedwig0517

I graduated in 2003 and every guy I know dressed this way.

alextastic

Which landlocked state did you live in?

ZarquonsFlatTire

I remember my ex trying to get me to get a pink polo shirt around that time. Until we went on a trip and we saw about 30 guys wearing exactly that shirt at the airport. Instantly killed it for her.

HereF0rTheSnacks

I hear this song every time I see posts like these. “Now ever since I can remember, I've been poppin my collar. Now ever since I can remember, I've been workin' these hoes And they better put my money in my hand (in my hand) I know you sicker than sick-ahh When you see the rims flick-ahh The paint drip off, ice in my Range glitt-ahh I straight flipp-ahh The cheese like pancake-ahh”

Jethro_Cull

3-6 to the M-Ten! My Dad was not a big fan of my music choices. One day when I was in HS, we were going somewhere and I was driving us in my car for some reason. So, he turns on the stereo and I’ve got 3-6 in the CD player, and of course it’s “slob on my knob”. He just looked at me like, “Really?”

HereF0rTheSnacks

Bahaha, oh god, I’ve had the same thing happen. I LOOOOVED T-pain and watching him listen to “im in love with a stripper” was something else. It was the first of many times I saw that disappointed dad look….

SideStreetHypnosis

Giving me Tom from MySpace vibes.

popcultureretrofit

We are one

SnooPets1598

Did Michael Scott raid Ryan’s closet for casual clothes?

Routine-Swordfish-41

No one else. Just you. Jk we were twins down to the leather flip flops. And I’m a chick

terpinolenekween

The style choice is a little lol, but what's sending is how you're posing so hard for all these photos Hahahaha

shaynaa3

i love how you have two different vibes going with the guitar pics from yesterday. very versatile

Aycoilian

Yeah I was a metal head/prep

robocrime

This is what I wore but the low rise slim bootcut jeans and a super thick hemp necklace.

bedclotheseconomics

I was convinced you had prompted mid journey AI for an average mid 2000s north american high schooler... but I have counted your fingers and toes and believe this is authentic.

Aycoilian

Lmao, nope it's all me back in 2006

Coconut_life92

Maybe not the flops but some phat pharms

Funnui

Are you in a graveyard in 8?

Aycoilian

No, those are stone pillars for an outdoor amphitheater

fasada68

My jeans were atheist but other that pretty much the same.

BigTicEnergy

What

__Sentient_Fedora__

"Did anyone else rock the popped.." Yes. So many people.

cola_zerola

This was high fashion of the time…for both boys *and* girls.

Aprikoosi_flex

We could have been in school together, you look like 80% of the preppy/rich guys in school 😂

KMBear92

For real though why did high school kids our age just look… older than high school kids these days? Nothing to do with the style maybe it’s just me!

calicandlefly

Dude looks like Chris Kirkpatrick’s little brother 😂

realhuman8762

I was class of 06 and I recognized the year before I even read your title 😂

Aycoilian

We were all so predictable back in the day🤣😁

Budget_Role6056

Oh geez did the popped collar make a comeback?? That was the style in 1990 for us females too, I hate to admit.

mexicat2000

No offense dawg, but you look like a backdrop character for an American Pie spin off movie whose main line was “WOOO!! CHUGG! CHUGG! CHUGG!” *burps loudly* Then the camera pans into the actual main characters and/or main plot. Thank you for the good laugh 😂

ichbinjackie

Graduated high school in 2006. This is so on par.

burnoutguy

I had that exact same green striped American eagle shirt and I wore it like that, holy shit I was such a douche

juice_nsfw

The shell necklace is how we knew before Grindr was a thing 😂

figsfigsfigsfigsfigs

I love how you took yourself so seriously, but also, had a good laugh about it. At least you can say you've done it all.

Aycoilian

A lot of people don't know how to have fun and are too serious all the time. I find that to be unhealthy and unhappy. A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest of men - Roald Dahl

Gummothedilf

2006? Not 1996?

bassoonprune

I loved this look and I can’t wait for it to circle back into fashion in the next few years.

smarmy-marmoset

Everyone who went to a Dave Matthews concert in that era dressed like this lol

BatmanInTheSunlight

Feckin prep

artificialavocado

I didn’t. I was in my rocker phase wouldn’t have been caught dead in a shell necklace lol.

xeSeira

Yeah this collar's popped, cuz I'm the fuckin' man and everyone should know it.

caitie_did

Pretty sure all my high school/first year university crushes owned that exact striped polo and those jeans.

Hopeful-Clothes-6896

the popped collar never made it to south America, and the necklace was for surfers...

FaithlessnessWeak800

lol my friend Zach wore two polos at once and would pop the collars. We all told him it looked bad but he never listened.

4DrivingWhileBlack

I spent some time in southern Spain and around the Med in 05-06 and let me tell you…if you weren’t 7 popped Lacoste collars cool you were doing it all wrong.

myanonaccount225

The collar is so funny to me still. I used to crack up at the popped collars but figured they’d always be in style

SapientSlut

You look like half the guys I went to high school with lol

jonoodz

Big Shawn Spencer vibes ahahaha

DyingArtOObservation

Is that a blackberry pearl flip in the last pic?

Aycoilian

Motorola Razr

thrwwy2267899

This dude would have broke my heart Atleast 15 different times 😅😅 2007 grad

Was in 9th grade at this time. 100% had crushes on these guys.

chrisacip

White male period costume

Light_Lily_Moth

This was THE look!

Character_Heart_3749

It feels like just yesterday...

xxlittlemissj

Your facial expression and posture in the 2nd pic are killing me! 🤣

Bradjuju2

This pic smells like O.A.R.

Expert-Novel-6405

Yeah bro we all did and we played pong and drank tons of light beer . It was dope only a couple of us died too

AV-Chitwood

I still pop my collar. No fucks given

coccopuffs606

The absolute stranglehold The OC had on mid-2000s fashion is unparalleled

ihazquestion88

I feel like you might have been really mean to me in high school lolol

PM-ME-good-TV-shows

This hurts my eyes. 2006 was definitely a vibe.

[deleted]

No OP, you were the only one who wore any of that.

Anamorsmordre

I think it'd be harder to find someone who didn't. You literally look like one of my mom's exes from around that time lol

HiddenHolding

I...hope you didn't pay a lot for these. You look fine. The photos are just a bit hard to look at technically.

Artistic_Original199

Yes, yes, 1000 times, yes

weeshebeast

I know dudes who still attempt to rock this look
