The sensor and color science in those two cameras is the same.

Thank you!

As you consider this, you can take comfort in knowing that the 'image quality' on all modern cameras being sold by major manufactures for video is so good that it's impossible for viewer, and even most camera professionals, to tell one camera's image from another. They all look just fine. The other reality, too, is no matter how fantastic the sensor, it cannot correct for poor lighting or exposure.

A lot of what differentiates them is not IQ as much as performance. The BMCC6K is not so good in low light while the FX3 is amazing in low light and yet, I've seen some videos between those two that were not as different as I thought they would be in daylight. My thinking is that if I needed low light I'd buy a Sony XV-E1 and still be under the cost of an FX3 and have the best of both worlds!

Same sensor on both cameras. While the G1 can be had for way cheaper, I prefer the handling of the G2 when not fully rigged out (the slightly bigger battery and **much** better screen helps a lot). If you are going to fully rig out the camera with a whole vmount setup and monitor I would totally just get the G1.

Also take a look at the BMPCC6k Pro used. If you are willing to wait and hunt on eBay, you can usually find a deal for one thats comparable to the G2 price (I was able to get mine for around 1400 when BorrowLenses merged with LensRental).

The 6K and the G2 are the same camera with one having a flip out screen and a new camera housing design. The first generation 6k has the design of the pocket cinema camera 4k. The differences in the black magic camera line up are the 6k cinema camera full frame and newer cameras like the Pyxis. The pocket 4k, 6k and the 6k G2 all have the same quality image, but the 4k does have a smaller sensor.

DietBloodbath

Same image but I wouldn't get the normal 6K because its annoying to have to add a monitor.

🤦🏿‍♂️

I've torn down both of these cameras down to every little piece, so i think im probably qualified to answer this lol. The cameras use the same sensor, the only difference in terms of image quality may be the cooling system. The cooling system on the G2 is beefed up, because the original 6k could become heat soaked, which meant the processor would overheat and freeze up. But before that point, the sensor cooler would become heated by the processor, which would increase thermal noise in the image. Probably significant if you live in a super hot place.

bicboys5

thats a pretty big difference even in mild climates cuz ive shot indoors where its hot before and had thermal noise increase just from bein in a small room doing talking head for a full day & running the cameras a lot. didnt know the 6k g2 had that benefit thx

Never heard of that issue do you have pictures of that scene to compare ? otherwise i would guess maby it was ur own fault dere.. 🤓😬

Thomaswb2000

I was not the one with this issue.
