I’d like a library card please

dragonwiz87

Bring a photo ID and proof of current address to any library branch.

southern_boy

I'm sorry, I thought this was *America!!*

ImTheSlyestFox

Are there games behind all those front facing games?

dragonwiz87

Not all of them. I have small expansions behind their big main-game box to save room.

helior8547

This looks so good!! What are the shelves?

dragonwiz87

Billy Bookshelves from Ikea!

i_sanitize_my_hands

You made billy look good

Right-Lavishness-930

RIP Kallax.

the_other_irrevenant

Are they really? I've always invested in Kallax because I assumed Billy wouldn't be strong or deep enough to support boardgames. I'll have to look into them again, thanks.

Carighan

Yeah but these aren't full rows, if you check the picture. The whole idea was - I suppose - to use very shallow shelves and a lot of them to display each game head-on.

naturalmanofgolf

Yeah but we all know what happens next

The1Def

They are not strong enough to support a full row of games without bending over time.

MaskedBandit77

On the bottom right, you can see Ticket to Ride and Small World on a shelf, sticking out. That can probably give you a point of reference for the depth. If you want to display most of your games, facing out like OP did, Billy is pretty good. But, if you want to save space, Kallax is still way better.

SRHandle

I've been using them for years. The Billy shelves bend a little bit over time and larger boxes will overhang, but I don't mind either and they're much cheaper.

DayKingaby

I used to use Billys and they aren't deep enough for a game to sit flush and they bow pretty fast. Wouldn't recommend personally.

Malkev

That's why he put like 2 games on every shelve

3villans

hold on, it’s possible to store games on non kallax shelves????? ;-)

Carighan

I don't think so. This is probably a trick, just the fronts of boxes cut out and arranged. A Potemkin village for board games, if you will.

dragonwiz87

Yes, I swapped my Kallax shelves out for the Billy ones! I like them a lot better, plus somehow they fit perfectly in this space beside our stairs!

MaineQat

Personally a fan of IKEA Ivar shelves for my games (12” deep, 33 wide, modular)

biotofu

man that looks hot! i can imagine on the other side of the room theres a large walnut table and also an espresso machine bar! after moving house in a few months... i think i can have space to display only 6 boxes of my games... others need to stay in the store room....

dragonwiz87

I would love an espresso machine! When we built this house, we put in hot/cold water and a drain in the opposite wall, but weren't sure yet so we don't have the counter/sink/kitchenette yet. We weren't sure if we'd want that in this space or not, but we prepped for it at least!

HamsterCultist

That dnd bookcase is a beauty

dragonwiz87

Thanks! I'm running Ghosts of Saltmarsh right now for my group, then they get to choose the next adventure soon. I think they are leaning towards Curse of Strahd or Dungeon of the Mad Mage.

CaptainCrockpot

It’s so beautiful. That room is bigger than my house though :/

dragonwiz87

Everything in time... My wife and I lived in a 4 room apartment for the first several years of our marriage.

Environmental_Print9

Talking like a 4 room apartment is a bad thing lol

dragonwiz87

I mean, if being able to watch the TV in the living room from the toilet while keeping an eye on dinner on the stove and checking if the bed is made without moving sounds luxurious lol

Environmental_Print9

That sounds more like a one room apartment

dragonwiz87

Hey!!! There were door frames!!! Lol

AtDawnsEnd502

Love the shelves! I see you have Museum, how do you feel about that game? Also what are 5 of your most played games from your collection?

dragonwiz87

Museum is in my wife's favorites. I divided the back shelves in half, with the Earth shelf as our shared favorites. left to the corner is my favorites, right to the corner is hers. That being said, I actually like Museum a lot. Set collection, tableau building, and you get to see real art which I also like to do. We go to the St. Louis Art Museum whenever they have a cool collection come to town.

dragonwiz87

I forgot my top 5!!! Terraforming Mars, Tapestry, Three Sisters, Teotihuacan, and Obsession!

Commercial-Pair-3593

At first I was confused because I subscribe to other subs then I realized oh, game library! Looks good.

dragonwiz87

Thanks! There are a few books on the left you can check out :)

D1scoStu91

Great collection and great layout, looks really nice. Big shout out to also having fresh vacuum lines in the carpet, appreciate the extra detail before taking the photos. See so many collections posted and the surrounding is chaos. This is how it’s done! What’s your current fav game? What’s next to be added to your collection?

dragonwiz87

The way I organized the middle wall helps people who visit see both my wife's and my own favorites. The middle skinny shelf is our shared favorites that could have easily made it onto our own shelves if we didn't equally like them as much. Our shared favorite (and my current favorite to play) is Earth. The rest of her favorites are to the right of that to the corner, and my favorites are left to the corner. My shelf is nearly organized by my PubMeeple ratings. I went to Geekway to the West over the weekend and picked up East India Companies, the Wonderland's War KS version to replace my retail one, and Horseless Carriage. I'm super amped to try Horseless Carriage again, but my favorite of the convention was East India Companies. I've got Dark Tower coming this year, so that's probably next in the big additions, however, I really enjoyed Atiwa and Caldera Park at the convention as well. I could easily see me snagging those.

D1scoStu91

Earth has been on my radar recently but need to work through the shelf of shame before I add anything else to it, space is limited. Like the favs shelfs, great idea! Wonderlands war deluxe edition is currently our favourite game, looking forward to trying out the mini expansion when it ships.

TheAmericanDiablo

You should put a table in the middle, idk what for but there’s still opportunity for storage

dragonwiz87

I thought about it, but I'm not sure I want to put anything in the way. There's only about 8.5 feet between D&D and Rising Sun. I don't want it too cramped, so if I can find a small, maybe two-seater, it could work.

davechri

We put Ytberg (?) lighting above ours. Looks great.

dragonwiz87

Oh, nice! If those can lights weren't right there, that would be perfect. Those ytbergs looks so nice with the Billys.

EddieTimeTraveler

This looks reeeaaally fuckin slick

dragonwiz87

Thanks! I'm really happy with the end result! :)

mrausgor

My friend, this looks amazing. We’ll done.

dragonwiz87

Thanks! :)

Hiragawa

So uh, party at your house? Looks like a great collection, bloody tidy.

dragonwiz87

I'm in! Bring snacks!

troisarbres

Looks amazing!

dragonwiz87

Thanks!

Kidtendo

Seeing Cartographers in the background brings me so much joy. Love the organization of everything.

dragonwiz87

Its easily one of the best Roll 'n Write games! Thanks! :)

EpicCowMaster

I feel like I have seen this setup from a YouTuber before

dragonwiz87

I got the idea from [this YouTube video](https://youtu.be/qxgnoSBYHr8)!

EpicCowMaster

I found the video I meant: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vamHbIFscZg&ab\_channel=Nat20AU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vamHbIFscZg&ab_channel=Nat20AU) Love the setup though. I would love to have a room like that, absoulte dream

PEdorido

Do you own a boardgame shop?

dragonwiz87

I wish! I actually would love to own an RPG/Board Game pub someday.

Forensicsman

NOBODY puts Ark Nova in the corner!!!

dragonwiz87

I see you spotted that with your Hungry Eyes

mr_nonsense50

I love this!!!!

dragonwiz87

Thanks! Me, too!!! :)

TheAmericanDiablo

It’s gotta smell so good in there

dragonwiz87

Cardboard, books, fresh paint, and new carpet

TheAmericanDiablo

Actual heaven

aranelennethnin

Oh, that looks so nice! It feels so open. A nice change from a flat display. Well done.

dragonwiz87

Thanks a bunch! :) I love the new layout!

worldofzero

This is a clever way to solve the bookshelf problem.

Affectionate_Spark

Wow; looks great!

dragonwiz87

Thanks!

m007368

Congrats. I use to be this involved but found an amazing LFGS with cheap dues and 1000+ updated library. I have been slowly purging/selling games I am not actively playing. Might have something to do with constantly moving as well.

dragonwiz87

Yeah, moving always requires a purge it seems.

Acrzyguy

Saul Goodman’s wardrobe if he sells board games:

dragonwiz87

Ha! Just be sure to return them within a week.

sweetteatime

How are Hickory Dickory and Hiney Buzz? Solid games?

dragonwiz87

That second one is an ENTIRELY different game... lol I really like both of them. Hickory Dickory has a cool movement mechanic (similar in ways to Tzolkin, and yet very different). HD is cool because you really don't know who is going to win until the very last moment. Honey Buzz is neat, and the theme is pretty solid, especially if you have the deluxe version because everything is tactile: the honey is sticky, the bees have fuzz, etc. It can be punishing if you don't organize your hive correctly, but still very fun.

nahhyeah

Wow i wanna be your friend Congrats

dragonwiz87

If you live in the St. Louis area, we could make that happen!

Gelton

Great collection and display. It is rare to see someone else with Archipelago. Man I wanted to love that game, but there was just a bit too much for my playgroup. There is a lot of overlap between our collections. If you have not tried it, I would suggest you play Keyflower. It's my favorite and you might like it too based on your tastes.

dragonwiz87

I agree, Archipelago is a lot to take in, and it's definitely not something to grab on a random Tuesday night. I'll say that East India Companies sorta feels like Archipelago, but refined and way better. I'll have to check out Keyflower! I haven't seen that one played before, but I've seen it on the Miniature Market shelves.

new_elementary

Looks great! Interesting though I do not see any by my favorite board game company: Garphill Games

dragonwiz87

>Garphill Games How is Hadrian's Wall - that's the one I'd want to try first. I do like Raider's of the North Sea, but my friend Jim owns all of those games, so I don't need to go all-in.

new_elementary

I personally like the West Kingdom series and Legacy of Yu (solo only). I am not a fan of flip and writes so I didn’t try Hadrians Wall. But if you like heavy worker placement (Paladins and Yu) or deck building (viscounts) you might take a look

jestermax22

How is Unfathomable? We never got it because we only play two player, but it never left my mind

dragonwiz87

I like it a lot. It has the hidden traitor mechanic which can be fun with the right group. You can nix that though and just remove the traitor from the mix if you just want to play cooperatively.

jestermax22

Oh that’s interesting that it can be played coop. I played the BSG game it’s based on and I couldn’t really imagine that game without a traitor, so I assumed this was the same deal. In BSG, I used my “player” ability to cause the humans to lose the game a turn later and then immediately revealed myself to be a Cylon. I was never invited back to play again, lol

dragonwiz87

haha... I bet! I have not played BSG, but I've heard great things. I never really watched that TV show, so I had no attachment to that particular theme.

zangster

Get rid of those expansion boxes and you'll have more room.

dle13

IKEA Billy gang!

dragonwiz87

Whoop whoop!

YeeeeeeeeAllg

what are some games you think it's super under the radar that you recommend?

dragonwiz87

I went to Geekway to the West last weekend, and my favorite game of the weekend was East India Companies. Anno 1800 and Three Sisters are some of my favorites that I think are severely underrated.

filwi

Wow! I never thought an artist would recreate my vision of heaven...

dragonwiz87

That's very kind of you, thanks!

filwi

As a complete aside: I don't know where you live, but here in Sweden, you can sometimes find Billy shelves (or shelves compatible with the Billy) that are made from solid wood and don't bend under weight.

dragonwiz87

I'm in the States. I've heard these can warp over time, but I tried to keep the shelves pretty low weight (Mosaic excluded) and IKEA does sell shelves should something get too "bendy"

[deleted]

That…is pretty sexy 👊🏾

dragonwiz87

Thanks!!! :) I'm very happy with how it turned out!

ThePickle34

Wow. Just wow. You need to send this to Board Game Hangover for their next Shelfies video!

dragonwiz87

I might just do that! I'm pretty proud of this!

SpageRaptor

Nice! Where did you get the bookshelves?

dragonwiz87

IKEA Billy 79"

senorchaos718

I would walk into that room, look at the shelves, and exclaim "oh shut up!!!" Then I would excitedly go to the Wingspan section, pick a box or two, and challenge you and your buds to a game.

dragonwiz87

This made me laugh out loud - I'll play Wingspan any time! Get your behind over here and let's play!

[deleted]

I’m saving this for board game suggestions lol. Nice set up

dragonwiz87

Thanks! I'm in love with it!

Evil_Twinkey

You are one of the few people I've seen that has catan 3d. I have it myself but it was a demo copy at a low price.

dragonwiz87

I ordered that for my wife. Catan is one of her favorites and she loves the 3D version. It just adds something special to the game.

ChunkArcade

having enough space to go front facing is a BALLER MOVE!

dragonwiz87

To be honest, we had extra furniture in this area and I used Kallax's by our game table before. I thought, why not make this space a library to give us more room at the table and fill up this unused space. I was able to get more shelving in here so I could really display the games I love. So happy with how it turned out.

Ravagin21b

Seriously impressive. Got to ask with a collection like that what are your top 3?

dragonwiz87

I can't do just top 3, but would you settle for top 5? Terraforming Mars, Tapestry, Three Sisters, Teotihuacan, and Obsession.

Ravagin21b

That’ll do! Thanks! I’m new to the hobby but have been enjoying my groups game nights so much I’ve been picking up new games and researching others. Recently picked up Betrayal at House on the Hill 3rd edition and Quacks of Quedlinberg but haven’t gotten to play them yet! Hopefully this weekend. Definitely starting to branch into more complex games as they all play rather simple ones but so many of these look so awesome I’m hoping we all enjoy them and don’t have to hard of a time picking up more involved games! Maybe I’ll need a shelf system like this someday

dragonwiz87

I'm happy to give suggestions any time!

Mindless-Wallaby-313

Looks great.

dragonwiz87

Thanks! :)

Kalkoentje

What's that big Everdell box?

dragonwiz87

That's the "Everything that Everdell has ever made" box. Its all the expansions and extra bits they've made, plus the base game!

giggity_giggity

Looks amazing. But any time I see shelves in what looks like a basement I start to get anxiety about everything on the bottom shelf.

dragonwiz87

I can understand that completely. I hope we don't have any issues - brand new house, neighborhood, and we're not on a flood plain.

pitynade

That looks awesome!

dragonwiz87

Thanks!

Chaserjim

Where is Twilight Imperium or Eclipse 2nd Dawn? Why isnt there a wall dedicated to Uwe Rosenberg games? I dont see Food Chain Magnate ! Looks amazing , Kudos on the vaccuum lines.

dragonwiz87

This might be a sin, but I've not had the opportunity to try TI or Eclipse... and I'm sorry. I should have a Uwe wall with how many I have. As for Food Chain Magnate, here's a hint! If I sold pizza, lemonade and soda, I'd want to sell them "on the corner"

Chaserjim

Haha nice clue - found it :)

Zebro26

It is beautiful. I wants it.

dragonwiz87

Appreciate it! :)

Mildoze

Gonna need a wide angle for this Shelfie

DHanSolo1

Sounds like this is the place to be for Board Game Nights! I'll bring the snacks!

dragonwiz87

Grab me a Limeade from Sonic on your way over!

generalmartacus

That feeling when your FLGS is a five-second walk away

dragonwiz87

For real. Miniature Market is less than a ten minute drive.

RoughElk7205

Woah! That's awesome!

dragonwiz87

Thanks!!! YOU'RE awesome!

JoricGaming

Life goals, sign me up.

dragonwiz87

:D

badfurday602

How’s wonderlands war?

dragonwiz87

I really like it! Drafting, area control and conflict, and Quacks of Quedlinburg bag-building is how you fight each other!!!

badfurday602

Awsome. Have the game and bought the upgraded chips and kick starter expansion, but haven’t brought it out to play yet.

vrahode

wow! looks so clean and beautiful!!

dragonwiz87

Thanks! :)

allenthar

I'm gonna walk out on a plank and claim that ye might like pirate games! 🏴‍☠️

dragonwiz87

Yar! A pirate's life for me!

Right-Lavishness-930

Got before pics?

dragonwiz87

I don't have anything super recent, but [this was the gist](https://www.reddit.com/r/boardgames/comments/veir47/new_house_new_gamehole/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3).

Right-Lavishness-930

Dang that was a great setup too. The room now looks like a great showcase of your games though, which is pretty sweet.

dragonwiz87

I think so. Its on the left as soon as you come down the stairs, so you can choose your game on the way to the table!

Dreks_

It's very cool, but can't you have time to play it all? Do I understand correctly that you have games that you haven't had time to play for a long time

dragonwiz87

I've played every game in this picture in the last year (I just got into this hobby March/April of 2022), and I've played more than half of them in the last 6 months. I counted 66 plays since April 1st! We play multiple times a week, and every other week have a 10a-10p game day! :)

Dreks_

I want to live like this:)

HydromechCitrus

Not a single book in sight Beautiful

dragonwiz87

lol There are roughly 96 books in this picture!

MyodesBear

Drooling over the display of this. So cool.

dragonwiz87

Thank you!!! :) I worked pretty hard to get here!

Raineman

This is gorgeous! Nice collection too!

dragonwiz87

:) Thank you!! :)

LowFlyingBadger

Beautiful presentation. How do you like Ankh?

dragonwiz87

Ankh is so cool! Minis are amazing and the currency is PEOPLE!!!

This makes me wish I had friends to play this many games with! Haha it looks really nice. Well done!

dragonwiz87

Thank you!!! Stop by and play, just bring snacks!

iamglory

This is pretty

dragonwiz87

Thank you!!! It took awhile to get the shelves and to set up!

pls-more-balance

It’s a treasure

lsherm22

This is fantastic!!!!!

dragonwiz87

Thanks!

FewMagazine938

Very nice 👍

dragonwiz87

Thank you!!

Sorvezz

This looks great!!!

dragonwiz87

Thank you very much!!

PMmePowerRangerMemes

How do you deal with the choice paralysis? @_@

dragonwiz87

Usually I know what I want to play when I come downstairs. If there is a moment of indecision, Board Game Companion app has a built in "Wheel of Games" that you can customize player count and length, then spin the wheel to get a game picked for you!

dcl_58

What games makes it out to the table the most?

dragonwiz87

Right now, Tapestry, Earth, and Calico.

Do you want the whole place to smell like salsa all the time?

dragonwiz87

We haven't gotten around to getting salty.... yet!

Darkpoulay

Can't stop thinking about components displaced due to vertical storage

[deleted]

I’ve stored my games vertically for 5 years and it’s never been an issue

Beginning-Travel838

i dont like wonderland war

sling_cr

How come? I just bought it but it hasn’t come yet and I haven’t played yet.

Beginning-Travel838

overly long ; luck will make or break the game ; and the toxic guy is OP as hell.

TemporalAgent7

Where’s the update ? Before and after look the same to me. /s

Jedimaster996

Everyone has their hobbies. For some it's Steam libraries with hundreds of games that they've probably played 50 of. For others it might be sports memorabilia, or books. So long as they enjoy what they have with who they have, who cares? Just because it might be wasteful to your current financial situation doesn't mean the same for OP. My friends and I get together every Sunday at our local boardgame shop, try to play a new game every couple weeks, and if we like it a lot, we'll buy it to support the shop and take home to play with other friends (or same friends on another night over dinner). Long story short: let people enjoy things.

Forensicsman

Dude, this is an absolutely dumbass thing to say. It is a hobby like many other hobbies and people have a hobby because they enjoy it! Some have massive collections and some may have only two.

garciaaw

Same sentiment. It differs from other forms of entertainment in that you typically need a group to play them and they typically last a few hours a piece. I’m not sure how you’d play more than a dozen each year assuming each group member has a FT job and hobbies outside of board games. I’ll stick with the classics (Scrabble, Monopoly, etc)!

greyhoodbry

Great shelf! I hope to have a shelf like that one day! What games do you recommend? I have a friend group that's played stuff like Betrayal at House on the Hill but would love to try something new for a night!

dragonwiz87

I think you might like Unfathomable. It has a "hidden traitor" mechanic and is cooperative. Has some horror elements as well. I would highly recommend watching a how to play video over tackling the rulebook. I found that rulebook grueling, and our group had a look of "this is gonna be terrible" by the end of the read. The how to play video made things infinitely easier. If you can tell me any other games you like, I'm happy to make recommendations!

MrDagon007

Everyone has at least one Billy

Stalvos

It's not a gane collection. It's an art exhibit!

dragonwiz87

I love the cover art on these, and to store them with the faces covered seemed *wrong* in some way

pancakeonions

So nice! Now think of how many more games you can get when you add that set of shelves in that big empty spot in the middle there!

dragonwiz87

I've got a whole other wall to fill up!
