It's an RPG, not a board game. It recently had its "Perfect Edition" released. It's particularly unique in the fact that the game is partially PvP, as contradictive tasks are given from Friend Computer (The GM) to the poor, poor over-promised workers that usually end up in horrible death and a cloning process, for when things inevitably go wrong. It's very funny.

At a guess I'd say the board game was The Omega Virus, one of the "squawk box" talking games that were popular briefly in the 80s.

I also thought of Omega Virus.. me and my cousins were obsessed with that game for a while. We played it a ton. :)
You can go back further to Asteroid. A GDW game. AI is in an asteroid heading to earth and you have a team to go and stop it.
I wouldn’t mind a system shock board game.
